Welcome
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for your interest in Parke County. I did a little cleanup after, but you're still learning, so all's OK.--Bedford 16:56, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Tips
[edit]After doing some more cleaning up after you, let me give you some tips.
1) If you have a sub-category, you don't need the main category listed as well. Registered Historic Places of Parke County, Indiana replaces both the Parke County, Indiana and Registered Historic Places of Indiana categories, so you don't need to puit them on there. Also, if you put the category Covered Bridges in Indiana, you don't also add Covered Bridges. 1) You shouldn't put the name of every other covered bridges like that. You could make a template, but you don't just list them. If anything, you make a separate article and link each corresponding article to it.
Hope that helps.--Bedford 06:47, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
More tips
[edit]I see you've been quite productive with the covered bridge articles in Indiana. I thought I'd pass on a couple other pieces of information.
- The Historic American Buildings Survey contains a number of photos, drawings, and other information about historically significant buildings and structures. You can browse the collection online here. Since the pictures and drawings in HABS/HAER are works of the federal government, they can be used in Wikipedia with proper credit.
- There are some WikiProjects with resources that can help: Wikipedia:WikiProject Indiana, Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Bridges. I'm a member of the latter two projects, and each of the project pages have useful tips and resources you can use.
- I noticed you've already figured out how to use {{Infobox nrhp}}. I'm guessing you might already be using my NRHP infobox generator, but if not, you might consider it as an easier way to get infobox coordinates and the like. The only thing missing at the moment is that it doesn't put in "| locmapin = Indiana" for specifying an Indiana-specific location map.
If you have any questions or if there's anything I can help with, drop me a line. Happy editing! --Elkman (Elkspeak) 20:03, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Info Boxes for Indiana Covered Bridges
[edit]Thanks for updating the info boxes. I also just tried the info box generator and it works good, that is cool.
Just an FYI after trying to generate a couple of other info boxes the coordinates on some bridges are not as accurate as my GPS coordinates. Just FYI.....Histrylover34 21:20, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- The coordinates in the infobox generator come from the National Register Information System. It's possible that their coordinates aren't entirely accurate, or it's possible that my translation from Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system coordinates is off in those areas. Is it off by a great deal, or is it close enough that someone looking at a Google map could see the approximate location of the bridge? --Elkman (Elkspeak) 15:06, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
They are very close except for one so far, but I think that was because they have moved the bridge. Histrylover34 15:11, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
