Question
[edit]Are you affiliated in any way with Wildside Press or Leigh Ronald Grossman? Neither really seems to meet our notability requirements. Could you please review the requirements and add the proper sourcing if available? In general, notability at a minimum requires some in-depth third-party coverage of the subject (i.e. someone has to have taken note of them). Yworo (talk) 22:23, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
I am not affiliated in any way with either of these parties, I am just a fan of his work. However, I don't quite understand what you mean by a lack of third party coverage. if you look at my references all his review articles are sourced to three different journals, which are noted in the article. He is the president of Swordsmith Productions, and the author of Wildside gaming system, which is noted in the first paragraph of Wildside Press(which didn't even mention him in the first place). You also have to take note of the relatively large number of conventions he has been a speaker and program leader at, which is noted in the first paragraph. admittedly, I am still in the process of cross referencing him in other appropriate sources on wikipedia at this time. also he has published 13 books, not self-published mind you, which I have sourced as well (Hidden gecko (talk) 23:00, 19 July 2010 (UTC))
- We don't need reviews written by Grossman, we need third-party reviews of Grossman's works. Also, biographical articles need to have biographical information. That information has to come from third-party sources. If nobody has ever written about the subject other than himself, that puts his notability in question, regardless of the number of books he has written. If any of his books has achieved best-seller status or have been received reviews by independent reviewers, that would probably be sufficient. Our requirements for a book to be notable can be found here and our notability requirements for biographies can be found here. If you believe the books and/or the subject meets these requirement, please by all means carry on. If not, the article should probably be deleted. Wikipedia articles can be targeted by enemies of the subject and used as attack platforms. This is more likely to happen the less biographical material is able to be included. Writing an article about someone on WP is not always doing them a favor... Yworo (talk) 22:43, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Those third party reviews are incoming, just waiting on an email from him to confirm . for example, He has had a number of radio appearances in regard to his red sox fan handbook. Also, his gaming system is mentioned in the first paragraph of Wildside Press(not a third party?). and I really don't think enemies are a concern here as the last version of this page was made by a fan from Sweden and deleted over a trivial issue because no one was around to defend it. His article didn't have half the sources/references I have. I just have to shore up his article with a number of third party references which I working on. But I don't think his notability will be in question after I update the article. (Hidden gecko (talk) 23:00, 19 July 2010 (UTC))
- Right, his publisher is not a third party. But if you have the appropriate sources but just haven't added them, no problem. You might put a note on the article talk page that you are going to be adding them, or even put one of the underconstruction-type template on the page. Some of the other editors can be rather abrupt about putting article up for speedy deletion if they even remotely look like they might be promotioning a non-notable company or subject. Yworo (talk) 23:16, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for helping out! I didn't even know know about the underconstruction template. I will put that on there and have the article up to snuff tonight since I've started too get emails from Grossman concerning third parties such as newspaper articles, radio appearances and such. Articles for deletion nomination of Leigh Ronald Grossman
[edit]I have nominated Leigh Ronald Grossman, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Leigh Ronald Grossman. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Christopher Connor (talk) 03:24, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Grossman
[edit]Hi Hidden Gecko. I've tried to drop you numerous hints, but the key to content inclusion and article notability is coverage in reliable independent sources. Try searching Google News, Google Books, regular Google, and see if you can come up with any sources discussing this subject. There's also a concern among some editors that you may have conflict of interest and be attempting to promote this subject, something that is frowned on here since Wikipedia is meant to be an encyclopedia. The policy page is wp:coi. Please let me know if I can be of any help. Freakshownerd (talk) 01:28, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
