News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2021).

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

Arbitration

  • A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Miscellaneous

  • Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
  • The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci notability

Hello, I stumbled across an article you created, Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci. I noticed some unsourced changes were made to the article by an ipuser, but I also noticed that the subject wasn't too notable. Could you explain how this individual is notable? Thanks! --PerpetuityGrat (talk) 17:16, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

PerpetuityGrat, based on her scholarly work I believed she passed WP:Academic #1. Looking back, she was definitely a risky article as I usually wish for people to have a larger presence in the media but based on her Google Scholar index and general scholarly work, I used my discretion. Azhar Syndrome

I have seen the Wikipedia pages HickoryOughtShirt?4 have created. It's mostly people! And I know a saying in English about those who talk about people.

Now, my submission was based on a phenomenon and an 'Idea' and I find it outrageous whose Subject Matter is people, is moderating a wiki page on an idea!

Allow me to further elaborate the difference between a person and an idea. A person, which is your expertise, is an accomplished subject in the society. While an idea, is still to be embraced by a society.

So please don't judge an idea with a brain that can only write about people!

I am re-submitting hand hoping that this time Wikipedia gives me a constructive feedback. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rajbhar s (talkcontribs) 13:59, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

Hi. I need your help dealing with a sockpuppet. Here's a past discussion from February regarding this. The new account that the editor has been using is 2603:8000:400:41A1::/64. Since many sports are returning in the next few weeks, I feel that this editor is going to be very active. If you don't mind looking into this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Yowashi (talk) 12:35, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry for the delayed response, yesterday was a holiday. I will look into it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 14:07, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
Yowashi, done. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 14:29, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
I have also spotted this one, 2603:8000:401:9930:0:0:0:0/64. Is it possible for a bigger range block? Yowashi (talk) 16:30, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
The sock that is listed above is active again. Yowashi (talk) 16:15, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Um, I don't think my message from yesterday got through, so I'll just try this again. Yowashi (talk) 00:03, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Yowashi, I'll look into it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:08, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Can you place a block on 172.119.121.249? It's the same editor that I have reported earlier. 2603:8000:401:0:0:0:0:0/48 may also need to be blocked too. However, since the account was blocked for 10 days, I'm not sure if the editor will attempt to use this one or 172.119.121.249. Thank you. Yowashi (talk) 15:20, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

Zach info removed

Why would you remove this information? You could simply DYOR and see that it is legit. I will redo my post with more information. I am already in contact with Zach's club, the clubs partners, and Zachs own partners. Everything will be posted soon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.215.83.188 (talk) 00:08, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

I removed it because it was unsourced. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:10, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Luc Tardif Sr.

Hickory, I hope you're doing well. Sorry, we haven't worked together much lately, as my real life has become busy. Luc Tardif Sr. was created one week ago, is eligible for DYK, but needs to be nominated by today to meet the seven-day deadline. Is this something you have time to do or collaborate on? I will be happy to donate a QPQ. Thanks in advance if you are interested. Flibirigit (talk) 17:17, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

I have nominated Template:Did you know nominations/Luc Tardif Sr.. I will be offline until October 23. Thanks again if you can help! Flibirigit (talk) 17:50, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Angela Diaz

On 30 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Angela Diaz, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Angela Diaz was accepted into Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons despite not taking the standard medical school exams or paying the $15 application fee? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Angela Diaz. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Angela Diaz), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
