WikiCup 2021 May newsletter

The second round of the 2021 WikiCup has now finished; it was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 61 points to advance to Round 3. There were some impressive efforts in the round, with the top eight contestants all scoring more than 400 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 110 good articles achieved in total by contestants, as well as the 216 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.

Our top scorers in Round 2 were:

  • Botswana The Rambling Man, with 2963 points from three featured articles, 20 featured article reviews, 37 good articles, 73 good article reviews, as well as 22 DYKs.
  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 1718 points from one featured article, 29 good articles, 16 DYKs and plenty of bonus points.
  • Republic of Venice Bloom6132, with 990 points from 13 DYKs and 64 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
  • Hog Farm, with 834 points from two featured articles, five good articles, 14 featured article reviews and 15 good article reviews.
  • England Gog the Mild, with 524 points from two featured articles and four featured article reviews.
  • England Lee Vilenski, with 501 points from one featured article, three good articles, six featured article reviews and 25 good article reviews.
  • Sammi Brie, with 485 points from four good articles, eight good article reviews and 27 DYKs, on US radio and television stations.
  • Ktin, with 436 points from four good articles, seven DYKs and 11 "In the news" items.

Please remember that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of Round 2 but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in Round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (except for at the end of each round, when you must claim them before the cut-off date/time). When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. deletion of my music page

Hi, I saw where my page was deleted. I'm a singer/songwriter and I'm independently doing all of this, so if there is a way to make a proper wiki page for myself please let me know. User: blairwoodsmusic Person mentioned in the page: Blair Woods (me)

thanks, blair — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlairWoodsMusic (talkcontribs) 06:54, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi BlairWoodsMusic and welcome to Wikipedia. While I do encourage you to pursue your career in music, your edits on Wikipedia are something I am going to 'strongly discourage you from continuing. You were creating an autobiography which is an example of conflict of interest editing and is strongly discouraged. Please refrain from using Wikipedia as your promotional platform and stick to your own website. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:05, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Asking for source re-review

Dear Mr./Ms. Hickory

I hope you doing fine,

I would like to clarify my drift article Jenna Norodom, as my article declined because of unreliable source. Related to the source that I attached in this article is the most reliable source in my country (Cambodia) as the person I've written about is the Princess in Cambodia and also notable in this country. Would you mind double-checking about that matter? and please kindly let me know what I can do about that.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards, Linda --Kong Linda (talk) 03:15, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kong Linda and welcome to Wikipedia. I probably should have been more specific. What I meant was that every sentence needs to have a source at the end of it. It is fine if it isn't in English but every sentence needs to be sourced. Please put a reference at the end of every sentence in the body (also, it's Ms).HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:19, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Draft Uwe Seebacher

Thank you for feedback.

Please kindly precise what and where seems in your view to be promotional as we only raise facts and no subjective interpretation or opinions in regard to topic.

In case you can provide the different parts we are happy to adjust. Otherwise we assume that the text is not promotional and should fit WP Standards. Thank you for your assistance and support. CarMey21 (talk) 05:56, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi CarMey21 and welcome to Wikipedia. May I ask who we is? Wikipedia accounts are only allowed to be run by one person. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:00, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Good evening, thank you very much. I am a copy editor and academic, who delivers work based on research activities as part of a team because as you fully correctly state a computer can only be used be one person. Nevertheless the back office might do research and promoter scientific work. We are affiliation different institutions. I trust this answers your questions and that you will kindly now refer to my questions so that we can move foreword in a solution oriented way not to waste both our time.

Thank you very much. CarMey21 (talk) 21:23, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi CarMey21 and thanks for the reply. While my main concern is the lack of adequate sourcing, language such as American Top-Management consulting firm and Seebacher has developed and produces the leading podcast series in the area of industrial marketing...With a reach in more than 60 countries worldwide are promotional. Please try and refrain from words like leading. I do agree he seems notable and do hope all the changes can be made so the article can be published. Problem editor

When you get a minute can you please look into this editor Roje Vala? They continually disregard community consensus and are just generally disruptive. Deadman137 (talk) 19:24, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Deadman137 I am out right now (still 6 ft apart) but I will drop them a message when I come back. If this continues and they refuse to communicate following my personalized message, I will block. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:57, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for talking to them. I've got another user Mastergerwe97 to report for disruptive editing and they lack the needed civility to be an effective editor. Other editors have had similar editing issues with this user. Deadman137 (talk) 05:38, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137, sorry for the delay in response. I will check them out. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:24, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
To be fair, I'm the one asking you to do something. I'm appreciative that you look into this stuff for me. As far as Mastergerwe97 goes, they're right back into the same behaviour. Deadman137 (talk) 01:30, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137, uuugghhhh. Block hammer coming. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:32, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
While the personal attacks have stopped, the behavioural and editorial competency issues still remain with Mastergerwe97. It also appears that they attempted to avoid the scrutiny of making disruptive edits by using this IP address [1]. The timing and nature of the edits fit the normal profile of what Mastergerwe97 has been doing. Deadman137 (talk) 03:13, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137, sorry I saw this then forgot about it. I am checking now. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:49, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137 I think Mushh94's response here is pretty good and I'll see if they take it to heart. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:52, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
That's fine, I don't have any issues with the give them enough rope approach. Deadman137 (talk) 01:24, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137, Let them hang themselves, ya. If they do make a personal attack towards you again though, I will block immediately. I think if maybe they moved onto a new subject and did small edits they can be a good contributor but they are stuck on one topic. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:14, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, they appear to struggle with letting things go. Though I found some further evidence tonight they are likely IP hopping to avoid detection. If you look at this edit [2] from three days ago and then compare it to this edit from earlier tonight (which was also made before the game in question ended) [3] there is a strong likelihood that the same person made them. Deadman137 (talk) 03:20, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Possible article subject

You're more of a BLP editor than I am, any chance that I can get you to take a look into the viability of an article for Nick DeSimone? He has 198 regular season games played in the AHL plus another 21 playoff games at that level. Deadman137 (talk) 05:37, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Deadman137, haha, I actually have that article watchlisted for when/if I create it. He needs two more games to qualify unless you can find in-depth articles on him (which I doubt exist). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 08:26, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
I haven't looked in great detail to see what exists yet. Though keep in mind playoff games do count towards the total for any player; only pre-season games are omitted. For instance, a skater that plays in 120 games in the AHL (combined regular season and playoff) and one game in Stanley Cup playoffs in their career is considered to have played in the NHL by our standards. Deadman137 (talk) 10:32, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137, sorry, I realize my above response was not very helpful. I did not consider playoffs, which was quite silly of me. Let me look more in-depth to see what sources exist, like you asked, and I will reply in much more detail. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 10:40, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
I'm always skeptical on if these borderline players can get through myself (too much time at AfD, back when we used to have a lot of these to look at). Deadman137 (talk) 10:58, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137 That's fair, I wasn't around during those dark days when ECHL players qualified.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 11:13, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Ah yes, back when dinosaurs roamed the site. Joking aside, the old standard for AHL level players was 100 games and it was a complete mess. Deadman137 (talk) 11:33, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137, I'm still not quite happy that CHL players named to the First All-Star Team qualify for an article but I am unwilling to re-open the discussion. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 11:34, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Deadman137, Sorry I just wish to know if you do plan on creating it because it is also on my to-do list and I don’t want to do work for nothing. I know you say that you rarely work on BLPs so if you wish to collaborate in the sandbox I’m game . HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:14, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
I have no plans on creating it, I'm still backlogged on playoff and draft items. Deadman137 (talk) 00:36, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Salah Eddine Saadouni

Hello there!! I just wanna contact you about the subject of the following page that has been nominated for deletion I have the passion to recreate this title for the artist with similar content so hope can reply as soon as possible Jhonricke (talk) 20:04, 30 May 2021 (UTC).

Hey Jhonricke and welcome to Wikipedia. Given that it was deleted twice, both in April, I would recommend against recreating it. I cannot see how the issues can be addressed and as someone with a conflict of interest, you are probably the least likely person to follow our NPOV rules. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:42, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

hi, what is wrong thing in this submission I don't understand whats you saying
