Can I add an item in people ?
Why is it an issue ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tnm01 (talk • contribs) 03:25, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Tnm01 and welcome to Wikipedia. Well, it is an issue for a couple of reasons. Firstly, you are clearly evading your block from Nix een. This is not allowed so please make an unblock request on your first account if you wish to be unblocked. Secondly, as I have explained on Nix een's page, you are adding someone who does not have a Wikipedia page and are not notable per our standards. If you wish to add this person, please write the article first. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:30, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

- Hi Thissiteisranbyidiots and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you very much for providing sources for your edits. The reason this is important is because all content on Wikipedia, but especially contensious material of biograghy of living people, need to be sourced. You can read all about it on WP:V. By the way, the second tweet says 7 but if you can find a source that is dated the 8th that'd be best. Happy editing! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:47, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

No problem. Can you fix it from the 7th to the 8th, please? Everytime I try to, it would say the edit is unconstructive — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thissiteisranbyidiots (talk • contribs) 02:23, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Thissiteisranbyidiots: Fixed! I think you just got a message from another editor about adding unsourced content, that's it. For future reference, we use WP:CITE to cite things on Wikipedia. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:24, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

- @MTMOTM: Hi MTMOTM and welcome to Wikipedia. Your username implies that you may be connected to this organization. If this is true, you need to WP:DISCLOSE it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:29, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
Is there a way to bring back the new version if I do so because I just spent a lot of time on thisMTMOTM (talk) 19:32, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
- @MTMOTM: Hi MTMOTM. You can look in the page history to find your edit but you didn't respond to my question about your username. If you have any connection whatsoever with this organization you must WP:DISCLOSE it and you should use WP:Edit requests for such major edits as the one you did. Please do not edit without disclosing any financial connections you have per our Wikimedia Terms of Use. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page. Note that editing with a conflict of interest is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared (you should use WP:Edit requests on the articles talk page if you are editing beyond removing vandalism or copyediting though). Concealing a COI can lead to a block. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:36, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

- @MTMOTM: Thank you very much for disclosing this. You now need to disclose this on your user page and Talk:Media Technology Monitor (MTM) (See WP:DISCLOSE) and make WP:Edit requests on Talk:Media Technology Monitor (MTM) so editors can view your edits to make sure they comply with our policies. The edits you added before were promotionally toned and you have a conflict of interest so you should not be editing the page directly anyways. Before make any request, please read over our neutral point of view policy and conflict of interest policy.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:48, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
Change to Eleanor Roosevelt High School page
No big deal about removing my edit to the ERHS article, because I cannot provide a citation. I went there for high school, Rosa was in my class, and the only citation I could provide would be a scan of my senior yearbook. Just saw she wasn't mentioned in the alumni section despite starring in a major upcoming movie, making her the most significant graduate the school has had in decades (with no offense to Delonte West). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.112.196.231 (talk) 21:25, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

I am trying to delete a page about me, it’s not needed and keeps having vulgar additions made to it. Jjm229 (talk) 00:45, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- HI Jjm229. Please understand that blanking a page doesn't remove its history or google hits. Now normally I wouldn't recomend this but the page is so obviously promotionally toned, has zero sources, and is an orphan that is would need to be blown up and re-started. I don't see any vulger additions, just a humongous amount of self promotion. You need to see WP:G7 which is when the author of the page (which happens to be you) who is also the main contributor of the content requests deletion. In the future, please give this page a read before creating an autobiography. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:53, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Southern Board Game Festival
Good afternoon. I appreciate the notification regarding the deletion of the article I wrote regarding the Southern Board Game Festival.
In the past, I have made updates on World Tour Cycling events, but this is the first that I have originated an article. In looking at the deletion rules, I could see that I had not listed any outside sources. I am working on correcting that. There was one article done by the local paper on our event around March 30th. I have a picture of the article, but it does not include the paper's name (I am pretty certain that it was The Advocate, from Baton Rouge). Other than the Board Game Gumbo Blog, that was the most comprehensive article on our event. I have a call into the writer of that article so I can properly identify that source. But assuming that I can't locate that article, I have listed several independent sources already. Have I addressed the verifiability issue? Is there anything else I should be aware of?
It seemed like one of your concerns was the size of the Board Game Festival. However, it is the largest event of its kind in the region. According to Steve Huckabee from Gulf Coast Gaming Events, the Southern Board Game Festival is the largest Board-Game-Only Convention in the three state area of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. (Gulf Coast Gaming Events from Gulf Port Mississippi came to the event last year as an Envoy representative to demonstrate new board games. Gulf Coast Gaming Events does board game demonstrations throughout the south.)
If you were to take a look at the "List of Gaming Conventions" on wikipedia, you would notice that there are none listed for those three states. Because of the dearth of gaming conventions in Louisiana, people came from all over the state to attend. 50% of those in attendance came from outside a 30 mile radius of the city of Lafayette. For board game enthusiast that live in Louisiana and Mississippi, the Southern Board Game Festival is the most significant board gaming event nearby. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnpnewman (talk • contribs) 18:46, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi @Johnpnewman: and welcome to Wikipedia. The problem wasn't just outside sources, it was in-depth coverage. The sources you added do not show in-depth coverage but are more WP:ROUTINE. Most are just telling people to buy tickets. Please read over our reliable sources policy and Wikipedia:Notability (events) and WP:GNG, which is the criteria I am arguing the article fails. After reading those article, please leave your comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Southern Board Game Festival as that is where this discussion should be held. By the way, if you have a conflcit of interest with this event and you need to disclose it by following WP:DISCLOSE. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:47, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

You deleted my page
I spent two hours putting the page together. It was not a promotional page. It was a history of works of myself - a bestselling author and known writer. Since when does posting a catalogue of works constitute self promotion. It was linking to pages that were within Wikipedia and had several citations. If there were issues a message letting me know would have saved valuable time!!! Lisa Jey Davis (talk) 08:03, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Lisa Jey Davis and welcome to Wikipedia. Did you read over the message I posted on your talk page about writing autobiographies? You should not have created a page for yourself. The only citations were to your own personal webpage (which most of the page was copied from) and links to articles you wrote. That doesn't show you passed our general notability criteria and were not reliable sources. You really should not be creating pages about yourself. Not only is it strongly discouraged but it isn't always a good idea (see Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing). If you still feel you warrant an article and you pass our WP:Notability criteria, please use Wikipedia:Articles for creation, which will let you create a draft that will be approved by an experienced editor. This is the only way the community is comfortable with COI editors. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 08:10, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

Fahad Ali Wikipedia page
In Fahad Ali Wikipedia page and another artist Wikipedia page (~~~~)
- Hi Imdigitalboy. Did you read the message I sent to you on your talk page? I want first and foremost to make it very clear that editing with a conflict of interest like you are, is strongly discouraged. I will say that stepping away is the best course of action I can recommend. If you chose to stay, it will take some work. First, you need to declare you conflict of interest (WP:COI). You do that by following WP:DISCLOSE and the other template I left on your talk page. You need to disclose if you are being paid to edit here on your userpage (click the red link) and on Talk:Fahad Ali. Secondly, you need to collect sources to back up any claims you make (even something small like a birthday or a sibling is contentious) and post them to Talk:Fahad Ali following our Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request. This is really the only way the community is comfortable with conflict of interest/paid editors. This allows editors to make sure all edits follow our policies. Now, I do not mind helping you word information into a neutral manner but the WP:BURDEN is on you to supply sources. Since you speak the language, I also think it will be easier for you than me. How do you know which sources to use? Well, we have a page describing what Wikipedia considers reliable at WP:RS. In short, sources that are user-generated, like IMDB, Reddit, blogs etc. are typically not okay. We also prefer sources that come from secondary sources, such as ones not made by a manager or press release but ones written by third party newspapers (see WP:PRIMARY). Unfortunately, I am in a different time zone then you are and I don't think I have many watchers on my page so if you have further questions, please check out the very friendly WP:TEAHOUSE. It is a help desk for new editors. Good night! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 10:00, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
recent edit on interventional pulmonology page
Hi ..not sure I understand...the material i wrote provides information about two global organizations (no different from the other organizations that are citied in the text)and links to their websites (also similar to the other hyperlinks on the page)..Please explain?? thanks!!BronchMD (talk) 19:25, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi BronchMD and welcome to Wikipedia. There were a few problems with your edit. Firstly, your username makes me think you might have a conflict of interest with Bronchoscopy International. If that is so, you need to declare it using WP:DISCLOSE. If you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all or use Wikipedia as a vehicle for self-promotion. If you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Secondly, the edits you added only linked to the companies website. We need reliable sources from secondary sources to show notability. As well, we do not add external links to the body of the article. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:36, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
Hi HickoryOughtShirt?4 and thanks for the helpful reply. Indeed, this is the first time I try to write something on Wiki. I am not employed by either WABIP or BI, but I was chairman of the wabib 2012-2016), and i am founder of the Bronchoscopy International foundation (not compensated). I guess my question is that I am considered an expert and opinion leader on the field described on the Interventional Pulmonology page, and apparently some of what is written is one sided and promotional for purely usa-based entities. People are urging me to contribute to wikipedia...but I guess I need to learn the ropes..(no bias or self-promotion etc on my part is intended)...Perhaps I need to find a tutor, but not sure where to turn or what to do next...I sort of hate to just give up on this because it is too much work..I am a big advocate/user of wikipedia in my own teaching, research, writing etc...thanks again for any advice/suggestions! BronchMD (talk) 19:48, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi BronchMD. I am going to leave a message on your userpage with some very helpful links on navigating Wikipedia. Regarding tutoring, you may wish to find someone in the medical community who is much more knowledgeable about the topic you are an expert in. I would suggest using the WP:Teahouse (a helpdesk for new editors) or Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine (a community of enthusiastic medical editors). Keep in mind, we are volunteers so you may have to wait a few days for a response. Before moving forward, I would first strongly suggest reading this essay on editing Wikipedia as an expert (Wikipedia:Expert editors). While expert editors can be very valuable contributors to Wikipedia they sometimes have a difficult time working within Wikipedia. This essay was written by someone in the community to help expert editors navigate Wikipedia editing.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:57, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
How to remove pages or challenge pages that do not show any citations or references
I see a whole list of wikipedia pages in Sri Lanka that have no citations or references at all, and no one seems to have challenged. I could point them out to you if you ask the creators to provide relevant references, in support for their claims.
Check out the bellow pages for example,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amal_International_School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennings_International_School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexicon_International_School_Kandy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regent_International_College,_Gampaha https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vision_International_School
- Hi Luewia and thank you so much for wanting to take initiative on this project. I will absolutely look into those and see if I can find relevant references. As per your question, you can tag something without a reference with citation needed tag (see Template:Citation needed). However, make sure to check before you tag and not tag things that are obvious (we like to say "Wikipedia:You don't need to cite that the sky is blue"). There is for sure a huuuuggeee backlog of unsourced pages but we are trying the best we can to get through them. If this interests you, maybe check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced articles. Conflict of interest editor
Hi hickory , it’s actually my page - Lisa I’Anson - and I was adding to and correcting untrue information.. how do I best proceed in order to make that happen please ? Having read your message it seems like I can’t add to or amend my own page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lisalease (talk • contribs) 01:26, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Lisalease and welcome to Wikipedia. Yes, that is basically right. In a nutshell....don't make changes to your page to promote yourself! Nothing good can come of this and the community is very, very against it. More information can be found at WP:COI but in short; No one owns this page, you do not have a right to dictate what is written on it (unless it violates our biography of a living person policy) and your best bet would be to walk away. Us volunteer editors often resent that paid or conflict of interest editors write non-neutrally, displaying obvious bias toward themselves or their clients, and write promotionally. A neutral point of view is one of the five pillars of Wikipedia, and is non-negotiable. All of your edits (besides being unsourced) are being added to promote yourself. The encyclopedia is here for knowledge, it isn't here to be used as a personal website. If you have constructive, well sourced (read WP:RS) additions you think should be added, please use Talk:Lisa I'Anson. You start by disclosing your relation on your userpage (click the red link on your username and see WP:DISCLOSE) and then follow Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request on the article page. If you have more questions, check out the ever friendly WP:TEAHOUSE. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:34, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for your message. I’m not trying to promote myself but instead add further career information which I can honestly prove happened with online and websites as confirmation ...is that what you meant by citation !?
- Lisalease Yes that is what I meant by citations. The content you had added was unsourced and not written in an encyclopedic tone. For example, we do not address subjects by their first names. You also have still yet to disclose your conflict of interest on your user page. Please do that promptly and make use of the edit request link I sent you. . Then press Enter to start a new line, and begin typing your request. Add ~~~~ at the end to sign your username. Try and keep it neutral and provide references to verify everything. DYK for Vladimír Kostka
You should consider nominating Kostka for DYK as the inventor of the left wing lock. Flibirigit (talk) 05:42, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit Thanks, I was considering it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:46, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- Flibirigit The issue is the sources don't explicitly call it "left wing lock." They say "defensive left wing strategy" or other key words, which might just be a "lost in translation" issue. If you look at this source (not in English, sorry) the description matches "left wing lock" without specifically stating it. As well, if you look at the left wing lock Wiki page it specifically says "The "lock" was invented in Czechoslovakia to work against the dominant Soviet teams of the 1970s" and using the sources/context this is clearly the strategy but it doesn't explicitly use the term "lock". I think that might be an issue for DYK. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:58, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- I will try to look at that in more detail tomorrow. One idea that comes to mind is saying something like... "Kostka invented a defensive system comparable to/later known as the left wing lock?" Flibirigit (talk) 15:34, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- You could also word it around a system that ended Soviet dominance in ice hockey. Did you explore the citation at the left wing lock article itself? Flibirigit (talk) 15:49, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- I did look at the LW article. The citation says exactly what's in the article. They just say that Czechoslovakia invented it to beat the Soviets during the WC in the 1970s without specifying a name. I'm at work right now but I can examine it more after. Thank you for the suggestions. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 16:44, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

I suggest you check out our neutral point of view policy. Removing this information is a form of "whitewashing" and is necessary to be added to the page since it has affected his life (ie. losing his job at Idol). I suggest you start a discussion on the talk page, just follow the instruction I left on your talk page on how to do this. By the way, just to be clear, do you have any connection to this person whatsoever? Are you a manager or a friend? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:08, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for reply dear friend HickoryOughtShirt?4 (@HickoryOughtShirt?4:), I am not from Anu Malik office or Manager or either a friend of him but I'm his fan. He is working in Hindi Film Music for more than 35 years now. But this Me2 allegation suddenly came up. These are only Allegations on him as none of them had filed FIR in police yet. Until this, I think we can remove this Controversy section from his wiki article. He is doing good work and why should we support these Allegations and dishonor Anu Malik. So I like to remove this Controversy Section from his Article. As I have seen it's not mentioned in any other Celebrity's article its mentioned. So please help me to remove this. Thanks
- Hi again Manu0005. Please bring your opinions to the discussion at WP:BLPN (look for the section titled "Anu Malik") but again I must point you to WP:NPOV. I understand the sensitivities to accusations as such but we also don't just remove negative information because the person is "doing good work and why should we support these Allegations and dishonor Anu Malik." The Enclyopedia needs to show both sides, especially considering this has affected his job/life. However, since a few people have raised these points, the discussion at WP:BLPN is to decide whether they are valid or not. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:00, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

, Where are my other edits? please put it back. I added on the external link of an alumni, who is the anther of so many robotics textbooks.
- Hi Kirenpaul and welcome to Wikipedia. Part of the problem with your edits was the alumni section. If an alumnus doesn't have a Wikipedia page they usually aren't considered notable. Consider creating a draft for them using WP:YFA.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 10:24, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted
Hi HickoryOughtShirt?4, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Nakon 07:28, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
