Nashville

It is all over the news in Nashville with a live admission from her.

That may be but you didn't cite a source. How is anyone not in Nashville supposed to verify this? Please see WP:RS. I am sure you can find a good source. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:26, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
@Cciustn: as well per WP:PROVEIT it is up to you to prove that this happened. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:27, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Mayor Megan Barry admitted Wednesday to having an extramarital affair with her former head of security

In a prepared statement, Barry writes, “I accept full responsibility for the pain I have caused my family and his.”

Cciustn (talk) 23:32, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
@Cciustn: This tell me nothing. I have no idea if this is a website or a blog, who wrote it, is this a third party reliable source? To cite sources see the 'CITE" tool in the to corner of the editing window. And let's move this to her talk page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:34, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Why would I lie, crazy !! Cciustn (talk) 23:35, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

@Cciustn: I am not saying you're lying, I am saying Wikipedia has guidelines we all must follow. Since she is a real person we have specific rules we must follow, see WP:BLP. Let's move this to the talk page please. 23:37, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Re: Fighting Vandalism

Some patrollers revert even faster than I do because they have the wp:rollback flag on their account! I'm considering applying for that myself. Septrillion (talk) 20:39, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

@Septrillion:Yes I've noticed that, it is very helpful. I have to manually put back words/citations or whatever was reverted. I would maybe wait a little longer because you've only been here for a few months but I think you'd be good at it. Maybe check out Pending Changes Reviewer first! Congratulations on getting wp:rollback! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:59, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Rollback is generally easier to get than pending changes. Vandalism is easy to spot. With pending changes we are trusting you can also spot BLP violations, copyright violations, etc. --NeilN talk to me 22:03, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
@NeilN Thank you, I didn't know that. I actually though the opposite. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 22:04, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

I fear the wacky ones will be out in force for a while. It’s going to be a long couple of weeks.

Peace be the Botendaddy Botendaddy 18:38, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

@Botendaddy: I've been feeling the same way. Sometimes I wonder if someone has contaminated the water and just given everyone a computer.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:46, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
For helping deal with the vandalism at User talk:Sro23! Thanks a lot! Jiten talk contribs 07:26, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
I was looking through your contribs and I found that you've been warning and reporting users manually. You can do that using Twinkle too! It makes the task a lot easier (especially with tasks like starting sockpuppet investigations). When you are on a person's user page or user talk or contributions page, hover your mouse over 'TW' found at the top right of the screen (near the search bar) and you'll have a drop menu with several options. If you choose 'Warn', you'll get an interface to choose the type of warning. The first drop menu at the top of the interface is the for the level of warning and the next drop menu is for the content of the warning - section blanking, vandalism, adding spam links, etc. Similarly, when you hover your mouse over 'TW', there is another option called 'ARV'. If you click that, you get an interface for reporting a user. The drop menu at the top of the interface is the location of the report (AIV or UAA) and the rest of the fields are not compulsory. Usually, I only tick the boxes as appropriate (such as "Evidently a vandalism-only account" or "Vandalism after final (level 4 or 4im) warning given") and leave the other fields above that blank. If necessary, you can make additional comments under the 'comment' field too. If you already knew what I said above, ignore this message! If you have any questions, feel free to shoot them my way :) Jiten talk contribs 07:49, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
@Jiten D: Thank you so much! I didn't know that, I am still figuring out the kinks of Twinkle. That is actually very helpful because I'd normally have two windows open, one of their talk page and one of the Wiki warning templates. That saves a lot of work for me. Thank you very much! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 07:55, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
No problem! There's a lot more you can do using Twinkle - for example, if you hover your mouse over 'TW' when you're on an article, you'll see a number of options: 'CSD' allows you to tag a page for speedy deletion, XFD allows you to start deletion discussions such as AfD's, RPP allows you to request page protection and so on. As I said before, if you ever need help with using Twinkle, don't hesitate to approach me! Jiten talk contribs 08:05, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Number being added to Indian university pages

Thanks for reverting that IP. As best I can determine, the number being added is a phone number being spammed for some BS company. Revert it when you see it, please! Ravensfire (talk) 06:02, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

@Ravensfire: Thanks for letting me know, I've been seeing numbers added for some time now but did not know why. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:03, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

You are now a rollbacker

Hi HickoryOughtShirt?4! I've been running into you in recent changes patrolling and I happened to notice that you don't have the rollback user rights. I hope you don't mind, but I went through your contributions and I noticed that you're quite active in recent changes patrolling, and you consistently view and undo vandalism and disruption to articles. I believe that rollback would be useful for you to have and that you'd make good use of the tool. Instead of having you formally request rollback at WP:PERM, I went ahead and just gave it to you. This user right allows you to quickly revert the edits of other users in cases of blatant vandalism.

Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a "[Rollback]" button next to a page's latest edits - that's all.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war. If abused or used for this purpose, rollback rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask.

Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see this tutorial page. I'm sure you'll do fine with rollback - it's a pretty straight-forward user right and it doesn't drastically change the interface you're used to, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into any troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism - it's a very thankless job to perform and I want you to know that it doesn't go unnoticed and that I appreciate it very much. Happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:11, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks a lot! HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:12, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

My man, you need to stop changing the 5,000 residents to 10,000 residents. I myself live in Gananda so I know about how many people live their. You are driving me insane. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoneyJune (talkcontribs) 02:03, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

@MoneyJune: Please read WP:OR which states no original research. How can I possibly verify you live there? I found this source [1] which says around 6,000 people live there. That is more than 5,000 like you are claiming and less than 10, 000 which is what the page says. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:05, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

I can easily verify I live here. In fact, I can name off my street address if you would so like. I have lived here all my life. I think I know more than you do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoneyJune (talkcontribs) 02:07, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

@MoneyJune:Do not list your street address on a public website. As well, I can simply use google maps and list any street. Please read WP:OR. Only reliable sources, as laid out in WP:RS are acceptable. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:09, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
I see you edited it to say 6,500. I think that is a good compromise until you can find a source proving there are less than 5,000. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 02:11, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

May we reach an agreement of what the number should be. If the census is completely true, then why keep the number at 10,000? Why not something closer to it like 6,500? EDIT: Just saw your reply. I am happy we have come to agreement

HTML hints

In your edit of 06:28, 16 February 2018 of User talk:Oshwah, you closed a <small> tag with <small/>. Note that a slash at the beginning of an HTML tag means "close the corresponding tag", while a slash at the end of an HTML tag means "open and close this tag in one operation". This is known as a self-closed tag. When Wikipedia finds a self-closed tag where a closing tag is expected, it usually converts it automatically to the corresponding closing tag, but this is treated as a lint error of type self-closed tag, and will cause problems when Wikipedia migrates from HTML4 to HTML5. I edited the page, changing <small>...<small/> to <small>...</small>. Cheers! —Anomalocaris (talk) 08:03, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Justin Charles

Hi, you hid a bunch of entries on this page, Justin Charles however missed the last one. Neils51 (talk) 02:12, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi Neils51. Admin Oshwah hid the entries. I've hidden the last one now and removed the remaining personal life section. --NeilN talk to me 02:22, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of that, NeilN :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:26, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Hi NeilN. Thanks for that. Have now located the relevant log :-) Neils51 (talk) 11:21, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

I see you've encountered one of Dr. Blofeld's famous geo stubs. The relevant guideline is WP:GEOLAND. There's enough commercial sources out there describing the place. --NeilN talk to me 21:29, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

@NeilN: Alright, thanks. Sorry about that, it was my first time using PROD and the only source was to a map that was unclickable. I'm actually in a library right now so I'll see if I can dig up anything to expand on it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:35, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
No worries! Those trip up even editors who have been here for years. I keep an eye on Dr. Blofeld's page for delete nomination notifications as the stubs often do need better sourcing. --NeilN talk to me 21:37, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

If you find some like these, without much or any further information, it often is best to redirect them to the village or parish they belong to (just check that they are mentioned there, otherwise the redirect will confuse people too easily). While turning these into redlinks is not useful or helpful, keeping articles without much information as separate entities isn't really helpful either. Fram (talk) 12:18, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

Dost Mohammad Khan

Hi. If you want to see a funny edit, look at the IPs edit to my talk page. Obviously the editor had posted before with an account or another IP address. Doug Weller talk 21:32, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Caidin Johnson socks

Hi there. I saw that you cleaned up after user "Caidin Johnson (Inflatables and Popping)". Thanks for that. Assuming that you watch-listed the articles involved, this will probably not be the last you will see of him. He has had more than 70 sockpuppets since 2014 and he loves to vandalise articles about Crayola crayons, films and cartoons. His style is very distinctive. (See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Caidin-Johnson/Archive for the whole history.) If he "pops" up again there is no point in giving his sockpuppets any warnings. He knows what he is doing is wrong. Just send them straight to SPI and they will block them. --DanielRigal (talk) 01:28, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

@DanielRigal: Thanks for the tip! When I first saw the username I assumed I was dealing with a promotional editor until I saw their odd edits. I'll be sure to have my quick fingers ready. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:34, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Chicken Vesuvio

I did leave the reference information. The person who brought the dish to the USA has now died, but his daughters and sons are alive. The information is from his family.

You can check with other famous chefs like Lidia who mentioned this recipe and the man from Chicago when she cooked it. People will know the restaurants I mentioned and where they ate Chicken Vesuvio.

I have not posted before. This is my first time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.54.48.88 (talk) 19:45, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

There was no source listed here [2]. It does not matter if "People will know the restaurants I mentioned and where they ate Chicken Vesuvio" (although I certainly didn't) because it needs a reliable source. Furthermore, saying information is from the family is not good enough because it can't be verified. A third party source (like a newspaper) needs to have this information. Check out WP:RS and WP:V. We would appreciate edits made being kept as such. Thank you. WillyFont (talk) 00:24, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

@WillyFont: If you have a conflict of interest it is pertinent you see WP:COI. People with conflicts of interest are generally discouraged from editing their own talk page. As well, you need to have a valid reason for removing such content that has been on this page for years and is sourced. Take to the talk page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:26, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

The information is not all valid so we kindly ask you remove content as it is disturbing to family members. Your cooperation is very much appreciated. WillyFont (talk) 00:37, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

How is it not valid? It happened, it's not fake. The National Post even wrote about it ([3]). Please read WP:CENSOR. Negative content isn't removed just for the sake of it being negative. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:38, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
As well, this happened in 2014 and has been on the page for a while. Why all of a sudden it being removed? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:44, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
