Huh?

A year old, but... any idea what caused this? Cheers, Manifestation (talk) 20:19, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

See "Sleep Disorders" in List of Hindawi academic journals#S. I've restored the redirect. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 00:33, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Oooh... it's a journal! I expected Sleep Disorders to redirect to Sleep disorder, similar to Sleep Disorder and Sleep disorders. I guess I had a tiny headbomb myself when I saw that it redirected to some random index of journals. ;-) Anyway, don't you think the redirects to that page should have anchors in the links? For example, Case Reports in Dentistry should go to List of Hindawi academic journals#C (with "#C" added). We could also turn Sleep Disorders into a disambiguation page? Manifestation (talk) 19:18, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Feel free to add the anchors. A disambiguation page wouldn't serve much purpose, but if you want to create Sleep Disorders (journal) instead, with a hatnote on Sleep disorder, that's also fine. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 20:53, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Adding those anchors will be a lot of work. Over 700 redirects. But ok, I'll do it. I'll start later this day. As for Sleep Disorders (journal), I don't think I'm the right person to write it, nor do I believe it's really worth creating. Anyway, thanks for your help! Have a nice day, Manifestation (talk) 10:29, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
If you want to do them all, ask User:Tokenzero, he's got a good bot for this. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 13:13, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
Ok, I dropped him a note on his talk page. - Manifestation (talk) 14:21, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

I guess you added Journal of Database Management which is a predatory open-access journal? Is this about right? –MJLTalk 17:25, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Because that doesn't seem right.. :/ –MJLTalk 17:25, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
It triggered for several reasons. Lots of predatory DOIs, WASET warnings, and the like. See also Wikipedia_talk:Edit_filter#Is_there_a_way_to_see_what_filters_are_triggered_by_an_existing_version?. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 17:28, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Journal of Database Management triggered the filter because it's published by IGI. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 17:39, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Ah gotcha! Keep up the good work! :D –MJLTalk 17:58, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Reappearance

The ref to a predatory journal which you removed from Borankana has been reinstated by a well-intentioned bot which found it cited a second time in the article! PamD 22:40, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

@DannyS712:, I have no real rules in place, this was mostly conceptual. I tailored something specific to one infobox way back when, but that's long gone and would not be of much use. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 08:19, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
@Headbomb: Oh well. I'll let you know if I come up with any --DannyS712 (talk) 08:20, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Signpost draft

I happened to stumble upon your Tips and Tricks Signpost draft (permalink) and I note you mentioned:

This could easily be the result of vandalism that resulted in two citations being merged together inadequately.

This is probably overly technical, but I think it might be worthwhile to mention the WikiBlame tool. When investigating potential vandalism, I find that tool incredibly useful; for instance by entering the above page title and "merged together inadequately", I found this edit: diff. If it is vandalism, and one finds a well-formatted citation (or at least a reasonably well-formatted citation), it seems like it may be better to start from there, rather than starting completely from scratch. One might also find other problems that were introduced if the citation was broken by the same disruptive editor. Retro (talk | contribs) 22:25, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

@Retro: While I'm not fully following your argument, or what those diffs are supposed to show, I agree that inspecting the history of the article is a good thing to determine which is the correct one. I'm not sure how to determine what are the intended citations (browsing the history and reverting an obvious vandal vs using wikiblame for something that's been there for a while) is worth mentioning, but it's something to think about should this get published. I'm glad you found this draft useful, but it will not be published by the Signpost anytime soon, as they have deemed this article as "unneeded". Maybe in a few years, after a change in staff and mentality over there. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:36, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
The diffs were merely an example of how the tool works; I'm not sure if you'd use the tool (though it appears I did a poor job of explaining it.)
I'm a bit confused about the status of that column though; I saw 1 and 2 and from what you just said, it sounds like it was thoroughly rejected (a shame), but why is "Tips and tricks" still (indirectly) linked on this page? Retro (talk | contribs) 00:35, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
It's listed simply because the link exist. Feel free to G6 it. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 00:47, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

MIAR template

Hi, I just noticed that this template apparently takes its title from the article title. So if the article is "Foo (journal)", then the title of the MIAR reference also includes the dab, which I think is not correct. Is it possible to change that? --Randykitty (talk) 12:05, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

@Randykitty: You can always add |title= to it as normal. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 12:06, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Pragmatism

You're right, sometimes I'm not pragmatic enough. I think I was taking INVOLVED a bit too far. I closed the RfD and moved the article. Cheers! --Randykitty (talk) 21:51, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Per your post at WP:BOTREQ, I downloaded the external links dump from 2019-06-20 and scanned it. I have an 8MB text file with 31,602 external links with "/handle/". The list probably includes duplicates which I haven't tried to eliminate. Examples (the first number is the page_id which I could delete to save space):

18123 https://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/6353
1848927 http://digitallibrary.amnh.org/dspace/handle/2246/1282

I'll be away for a few hours. If there is a rule to narrow down what you are after, let me know and I'll look later. Johnuniq (talk) 23:41, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

Getting linked pages

Don't advertise it, but the old citation bot page is gone, and this is thing now available: https://tools.wmflabs.org/citations/linked_pages.php?page=User:AManWithNoPlan/sandbox2&slow=1 AManWithNoPlan (talk) 16:05, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Well [1] seems to work for me, but if that does what it does, I'll keep this one semi-private for now yes. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 17:34, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
This one does the linked pages things without the copy and paste just like you asked for. AManWithNoPlan (talk) 18:12, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
