[edit]Yes, I figured out how to do the upload there, but when I go to insert an image, it is asking for a specific link? How do I know what the link is?
Also, honestly, how do you know whether something is fricking ok to put on here or not!? They have a book written for every type of picture you want to put in!

Template:Original Research
[edit]I moved your addition of {{pp-semi-template}} on Template:Original Research to the <noinclude></noinclude> section as where you put it added the protected lock image to all articles that included Template:Original research. So it made it look like hundreds of articles were protected when they really were not. -- Gogo Dodo 04:00, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that. I didn't notice that the template was transcluded on to other pages. -- Hdt83 Chat 04:01, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Thank you!
[edit]I do very much appreciate your complement to me about my editing of the Colbert Report page. The way I see it, there are [meta-]ways to get these things into Wikipedia ... and not by the direct route either - but by actually giving direct, footnoted references to the controversy itself. No one seems to have gotten the "oxygen is a poison" joke! Those references I gave in the Wikipedia References section should stop all the silly vandalism, right?
I've of course done this before - the "Paternal Inheritance of Mitochondrial DNA" page is one that I edited heavily, but my changes (based on scientific research that shows that this never happens in humans) were undone by the person who created the page in the first place. I do understand how Wikipedia works (I'll get back to that editing and correct the page when I get a chance, I haven't "given up"). I actually just had a discussion with a friend about "Is Wikipedia Authoritative" and the open-source principle "with many eyes all bugs are shallow" upon which Wikipedia is based. (See Eric Raymond's open-source manifesto "The Cathedral and the Bazaar". I'm an open-source programmer so I know these things - see www.userscripts.org ...) How the mere fact of vandalism and especially a controversy on a page is is valuable information about a topic in and of itself that can't be gotten from any other source, and that people shouldn't give up editing just because someone undoes or changes their additions - that there always is a way to get something in an article, by "negotiation", by a reference to a point of view, bias or a controversy.
My Wikipedia "claim to fame" is that I edited the Tikrit, Iraq (Saddam's hometown) article to correct the assertion that Tikrit was founded in Medieval times - in fact, "Takrit" is mentioned in the "Chronicle of Nabonidus" a Babylonian cuneiform document written in 619 BCE. No one else seemed to know this and this reference has been kept there till this day. I also intend to create a Y-Chromosome haplogroup G5 page (I claime to be the expert on this) which has some very unique genographic aspects - a major haplogroup that is almost entirely composed of Ashkenazi Jews and no one else.
I do thank you again for the complement. I do have one "complaint" about Wikipedia editing as such - it's hard to find the proper footnote format or even some of the templates with the editor alone - you have to find an example out there, figure out the syntax, copy it, and modify it. Is there an easier and more direct way to list the templates and the "cite" tag syntax in the editor itself? I think that this is part of the reason that many articles aren't properly footnoted - not that people don't have the references, but that they can't figure out how to add them.
The one mystery to me is how one gets to be an "editor" - that certain status that can lock pages - I know anyone can add certain templates, but is it because of a demonstration of impartiality or persistence in editing in certain cases? I want to explain how this works to friends when I explain how Wikipedia can indeed be "authoritative".
Now, I wonder if Stephen will notice what I did ... I see your user page and it's very cool. I never noticed all those templates that describe all the things about a person there. Maybe I'll make a user page for myself - but where are all the templates? I'd like to create some as well - about genetics, programming languages, etc. How do I find them and do you have advice on how to do it (aside from copying your great page). Hmmm ... I think a Wikipedia user page is better than a MySpace account!
Thanks,
Ted Kandell

Notability of Lights.Action!
[edit]A tag has been placed on Lights.Action!, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Realkyhick 07:30, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- In my opinion, Skinnymag isn't enough (though it is more than a lot of band articles have). The band needs to have some measure of notability such as recordings with a recognized label, charting on a major airplay or sales chart, or more coverage by reliable press sources. The one article you cite likely isn't enough, but that's up to the reviewing admin. Realkyhick 07:41, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Libimseti.cz - Czech Social Networking Site
[edit]Hi, I'm from Germany. I'm reading a lot on Wikipedia, and I've edited a few articles. This was the first time where I wanted to create an entire new article. "Libimseti.cz" is worth notifying on Wikipedia, because it's a leading European social networking site, like "MySpace.com" in the United States. I know that "Libimseti.cz" is a Czech site, and the Czech Republic has only 10,000,000 citizens, thus many Czech sites are unknown outside of the Czech Republic. But this is a leading Czech social networking & community site like "MySpace.com" in the U.S., with a history of almost 10 years and a membership basis of over 950,000 registerd users. This is almost 10% of the Czech population.
Wikipedia has already a list with social networking sites at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites. On this list are many sites that I never have heard, like the unknown "CouchSurfing" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Couchsurfing with only 192,000 registerd users.
By the way, there is already a "Libimseti.cz" entry at the Czech Wikipedia site:
http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libimseti.cz !!!!!
"Lide.cz" & "XChat.Centrum.cz" are also on the Czech Wikipedia.
http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lide.cz
http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xchat.cz
Thus I think, that the entry of "Libimseti.cz" to the English Wikipedia should be viewed on the same level as the entry of "MySpace.com" in the U.S., the only difference is, that "Libimseti.cz" comes from a small country, like the Czech Republic.
Is this a reason to discriminate a leading Czech site? I hope that the English Wikipedia site has no discriminating double standards.
I sincerely hope that "Libimseti.cz" is valuable as an entry to English Wikipedia.
- Unfortunately, Libimseti.cz does not have any sources to establish notability on the English Wikipedia as stated in the notability guidelines for web sites here: Wikipedia:Notability_(web). The Czech Wikipedia pages also do not have any sources so I cannot be sure of the notability of this site. Just because a page exists on another language Wikipedia does not automatically mean that it can be included on the English Wikipedia. Sorry but unless you can provide me with some third party sources or referenced to establish notability guidelines, this site cannot have an article on the English Wikipedia. -- Hdt83 Chat 03:22, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]IP indefblock
[edit]I believe that, while you are quite correct in quoting, and I am quite well aware of, the policy re indef IP-blocks, in this case it is justifiable. The policy, you will note, does say "almost" never. The edits posted by this editor are all vicious personal attacks directed at one particular person, over quite a short space of time, and in my view represent a personal relationship problem or conflict which has no place in wikipedia. I did consider very carefully. If the editor in question comes to WP:UNBLOCK then I will look at it, but for the present I think that this is one case where WP:IAR applies. If you feel strongly about it, I will happily accept the view of an uninvolved admin as a second opinion.--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 23:23, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- As I say, if the editor comes back to WP:UNBLOCK I will look at it. One point - are you saying that you felt able to criticise my action as an admin without looking at the user's contributions?--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 23:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Curtis Truex Jr.
[edit]A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Curtis Truex Jr., suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but yours may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. - I don't think that late model drivers have reached notability status yet, even if he is racing for Junior. The article doesn't show one win. One ARCA, ASA, NASCAR , etc. level start is required in my opinion. A driver development would work too if you can find enough press to create a sourced article. I don't think being related to a Cup winner does much except if he somehow gets a bunch of press. Royalbroil 04:26, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

AfD talk pge reply
[edit]Hdt, the deleting sysop Rama's Arrow has left WP it would appear. I don't know why, but could it be that his or her actions as a sysop in general were being questioned? If so that would place a large question mark over the deletion on the second occasion without a second AfD. But would you know who I would speak to if the article's deletor is not here anymore? I was pursuing information to improve the article when it was deleted - and the fact that the official website for Maximum-Energy Pro Wrestling was on the spam black list didn't help matters. Intex Solutions, Inc.
[edit]Hello,
You reviewed my submission on Intex Solutions and marked it for speedy deletion. I have tried to post this a few times and am finding it hard to find out what I am best to do.
Intex is mentioned a few times in Wikipedia. Not from anything I have written, by the way! For example, if you enter 'Mortage-backed security' and then look under Real World Pricing you will see Bloomberg and Intex listed. Bloomberg however has a link to a Bloomberg page even though this market's specialists are Intex.
I tried to look at other formats for companies such as 'Keithley' but I can not see why mine is so different and what I must do. Please help!
I am quite happy to explain the securitization market and why Intex is key to this if needs be.
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Chris

Delticom
[edit]Hi Hdt83, I was saddened to see my article on Delticom Ltd. being declined last week.
I put the article in the proper wiki structure and quoted sources as well.
Perhaps you can spare some time to explain to me why us wikis are only allowed to write about large multinational companies. I thought one of the causes of the Internet was to allow for the democratisation of information and not the censorship in favour of the large mono-capitalist companies. Delticom is a company that has won numerours awards such as the German Internet Award 2003 and its process structure revolutions have brought forward mankind. Delticom is also enganging in supporting young start-up by sponsoring the Young Entrepreneur award. I think its wortwhile that we are allowed to write about such companies rather than some multinationals that only engage in shareholder value.
Thank you for your consideration, once again.
Kind regards,
Viktor
Please see following additional sources: http://www.delti.com/press/english/deltiP41.html
- Hello, thank you for taking the time to reply to the declined article. The problem with the article is that we need sources to help establish notability of the company. Company websites are not reputable sources to help establish notability. In order for the article to appear on Wikipedia, reputable 3rd party sources must be included in the page to help make the subject notable. See WP:CORP for more info on notability guidelines. --Hdt83 Chat 19:02, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi Hdt83, thank you for replying. Notable sources include Wikipedia itself, since a similiar article is on the German wikipedia as I have shown in my original posting. Also, I would like to include the stock chart from the english website: http://deutsche-boerse.com/dbag/dispatch/en/isg/gdb_navigation/home?module=InOverview_Equi&wp=DE0005146807&foldertype=_Equi&wplist=DE0005146807&active=overview&wpbpl= Thank you again for giving this a reconsideration.
