Information icon Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Inverkeithing—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 05:41, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Material scientist, can you correct for me then that Inverkeithing is not a port town (it is a coastal town) and that the miles to Edinburgh is referring to Edinburgh City centre, as these are the important corrections that the original article got very wrong - and they are now back. Harrybean07 (talk) 05:51, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add or significantly change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did with this edit to Inverkeithing. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. AgisdeSparte (talk) 01:13, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I understand this, but you deleted my addition of the town coat of arms for Inverkeithing? A lot of work that was verifiable was deleted? Can you add these things back rather than deleting lots of useful work? What specifically did you have a problem with and can you reinstate my edits so then I can add the sources? this page is now missing so many true and verifiable edits now. Harrybean07 (talk) 01:33, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
my section on Letham Hill Wood had a proper reference - why did you remove this? People will want to know about this important feature of the town and no they cannot see it. Harrybean07 (talk) 01:37, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe you fairly removed the Inverkeithing town coat of arms from the page. I cannot have another reference for an image which is from Wikipedia commons, described an entitled as the Inverkeithing coat of arms. I don't believe it is controversial to include a coat of arms in a section for a coat of arms for a town with a coat of arms. Please explain therefore why you deleted this? Can you reinstate it for me? Harrybean07 (talk) 01:45, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Materialscientist.
First of all I want to say I have listened to you. I have put a message into the discussion asking for ideas on the changes I wanted to make. I genuinely did not feel they were controversial, but I understand it is worth asking to confirm no one thinks strongly about expanding the article to Economy or putting climate in with geography for example.
Second of all, I believe I can see a discrepancy between your editing and Wikipedia's policies which I would like clarification on. You deleted my correction of 9.5mi instead of 9mi for a distance. The distance is 9.5mi as of websites where you can check map distances. However this cannot be cited. Distances from a relatively obscure town are not found in citable books. Hence why the 9mi figure was also not cited. You removed my accurate correction.
From now on I will cite absolutely all information properly according to wiki guidelines where possible. But there are some things that cannot be cited. Please do not delete these things before checking them yourself. Harrybean07 (talk) 02:33, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Hospitium of the Grey Friars, Inverkeithing requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&oldid=1219568642&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1 and https://fifehistoricbuildings.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Inverkeithing-Friary-project-summary-Mar-22.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
