Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Twerking, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. The burden is yours to get a reliable source. Really. Don't bother doing anything else, it won't work. Personal experience and if-you-know-you-know style are simply not acceptable sources. Verifiability is a Wikipedia policy and citations to reliable sources are the only way you're going to get content to stick. I also should tell you that treating other editors with civility and respect is another policy here, and if you do not assume good faith nobody will want to bother considering your ideas. As with many of the articles on Wikipedia, many have absolutely no citation, have citations with broken links, have citations confirm the article, and have citations which is incorrect; this article is no different. So, it is quite telling that the excuse used for ignoring a reader's concerns of racial disparity is lack of a citation. I still thank you for your response. The completely disrespectful manner in which you responded gives me the ability to educate many on the true dangers of this site. To have the audacity to speak of "good faith" after beginning your entire response in such an unprofessional and condescending manner is also telling. So, again I thank you. Many of the people posting articles for the site are not specialist in those fields, and do not understand much of what they think they do of the data and research. Your response is not needed (neither will be received), as I'm sure it will not be helpful. I mean, no disrespect (even if some is received). But, dealing with a lifetime of ignorance in humanity makes me quite intolerable of it in my latter years. It is nothing personal.

Also, if the experience of the people and culture who created the art is not regarded as expert, then whatever you put up is no expert. It is just an excuse for appropriating another peoples culture, without giving proper credit.

As it is often hard for a Black American to search and sus out much information on our origins and their impact upon our culture; it is quite ignorant (if not bigoted) to assume that you know better. With the only citations, you can provide coming from your own culture, who will clearly state, it knows nothing of the other to begin with. I am curious. Would you have the ignorant courage to state to Rihanna's face that you understand better than she, because Oxford told you? Help me to understand who Oxford asked? Because clearly, they did not ask the people who created the dance genre. The culture that the dance genre belongs to have long acknowledged the connections between twerking and whining. Twerking, while originating in the south of the US, was inspired by the traditional and folk dancing of African and Caribbean cultures. With the latter only degraded into the current explicit example that pervades today, because people outside of the culture could not simulate the art properly. I can acknowledge that they are two separate dance forms; as I have already. Those who do actually know, understand that they have the same origins. And, as with much of the Black cultural that has risen out of the Black Diaspora; they are often influenced by similar traditions, and can easily be indiscernible between each from those outside of the culture.

Blogs, wordpress, and similar are not generally "reliable sources". Like it or not, Wikipedia wants actual scholarly research. It's an unfortunate fact that some topics are not covered well in those sources. As much as you are concerned that those "not in the culture" might not understand it, those in the culture might be biased or have an incomplete sense of the broader picture. I'm not saying this is definitely true in this case, but it's an easy counter-argument. We're stuck with following WP's guidelines. Go find acceptable sources so that there can be content based on them. These aren't my opinions, I'm just saying what WP has established as its standards.
