File permission problem with File:Flowers of Phyllanthus mariannensis Justin Hale.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Flowers of Phyllanthus mariannensis Justin Hale.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 12:32, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

KylieTastic (talk) 15:34, 12 March 2023 (UTC)- Thanks KylieTastic. This is my first Wikipedia article. Totally killed my Sunday, but it feels great to have an article out there. Let me know if there is any way I can improve it. I'm wanting to add some pictures, but I don't own any. I'm not sure if I would be allowed to use any from GBIF, iNaturalist, or Flikr.... Halenhardy (talk) 00:45, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Halenhardy happy to help - it's nice to find submissions that are easy accepts (rather than the endless spam and unsourced content). Please note that if you link to another users name and sign a post most users will get a notification as people may not be watching a page for a response (I do for a day after a review) - see WP:MENTION. Yes, writing articles does take up a lot of time, but is rewarding... Wikipedia in general can take up huge amounts of time if you get sucked in. Adding an image or two is always an improvement as just a wall of text scares some readers, people are used to having an image for context. In general images have to be 'free' to use (see WP:UPIMAGE) so most are not usable. There are a number of File copyright tags/Free licenses buy usually you'll find Public Domain (PD) or Creative Commons CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. I looked on Flikr and found several by Lauren Gutierrez but they are CC-BY-ND so no use. Sometimes if you ask someone will release a free version maybe at a lower res, if they are interested in the subject more than ownership. Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants is one of the still active wikiprojects so asking there you may find some help. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 11:12, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hey, I noticed the POWO images were actually CC-BY so I've uploaded and added. I also found two of the images on inaturalist are also CC-BY these. They are not great - not particularity clear and one has a hand in it and something in the background, but maybe OK? Oh and good work on the improvements, it may even be up to B class, but I would say if you would like it reassessed ask at Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:16, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. That's fantastic. Images look great, and are of historical interest and practical use. I'll keep an eye out for CC-BY. Halenhardy (talk) 00:44, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Turnagra (talk) 09:22, 25 July 2023 (UTC)- Just adding a couple extra thoughts to this very comprehensive list - well done! I'm wondering whether the "order" column is necessary, as there's only one that actually uses it? I also note that you're relying quite heavily on the Kew Gardens database, and that it'd be good to try and get some variety in your sources if possible. The only other thing you might want to consider is setting up some redirects from the species you've listed to their genera pages, as a lot of them are still red links but have articles at a slightly higher level which could help make it a bit easier to follow in the interim. That's not to take away from the work you've done on this, though! Turnagra (talk) 09:26, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for taking note of my little project. I agree with deleting the Order list. I had copied that format from another plant list page. Although some folks may want to quickly sort plants by order. Ot probably wouldnt take me long to add the Orders. POWO seems like the definitive source for plant taxonomy, which is why it's cited consistently, but their list function is difficult to find (not by google search)and the format difficult to read. I'm not sure how i would cite other sources other than powo. The red links i plan on fixing by actually creating a page for each one. Ive recently made pages for Piper salicinum (a plant that hasnt been documented since the 18th century!) and Callicarpa lamii, forgotten for the last 30 years but i had the pleasure of visiting a specimem recently and im now growing it in my shed. Slowly but surely we'll get rid of all the red links. 116.68.18.59 (talk) 11:34, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Checked with our Guam Native Plant Society and they think the Orders column will be helpful. They'll help to fill it in. Halenhardy (talk) 13:34, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Sounds good, if there's content to add then might as well! On the plants, that's certainly an ambitious goal but I love that you're giving it a shot! One thing which could be worthwhile in the meantime is still creating redirects but using the template Template:R with possibilities to highlight that it could be expanded into a full article. That way you can expand it easily when you get a chance but in the interim people are still able to access a page which still gives them useful information.
- As for what other sources there are, are there any botanical surveys which have been done of the islands and published? Those sort of journal articles would be perfect things to cite. Turnagra (talk) 08:52, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- We have members of the Guam Native Plant Society who are interested in at least creating article stubs for the different species. That shouldn't take too long for the 81 species that need articles. At least they can get to the genus level page with 2 clicks. Halenhardy (talk) 09:17, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

I've reverted your edit. You are not looking at what you are doing. You are causing multiple errors in the display. Please make multiple, smaller edits, and use the "Show preview" button to see what effect your changes are having. You also reverted my previous change without giving a reason... I think because you are editing offline and just pasting your full update into the article. Please don't do that, either. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:46, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- Noted. Thank you for the feedback. I was also frustrated by the formatting issues. I'll take your advice and make smaller edits. And thank you for the helpful tip about showing the preview. Halenhardy (talk) 03:55, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Fagus grandifolia, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Beechwood. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
