Indian Charts
[edit]Hello thank you for your recent contributions. Per discussions at WP:RECORDCHARTS, we use the most recognised chart in a country according to the one which has most notoriety and is operated by the Country's Music Industry Association or other recognised body. We may use additional charts if they are known in THAT country as a notable indication of music success. The Billboards Hits of the World charts are a secondary chart, they are not operated by the IMI (Indian Music Industry) association and therefore are NOT the primary record chart of India. As such, if a song has charted on a national chart such as the Indian Singles Chart by IMI, we would NOT include the Billboard equivalent hits of the world chart. In future, when you are reverted, please pay attention to WP:BRD. You need to stop trying the same edit and instead discuss on the talkpage to get a consensus. >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 12:55, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- The song debuted at number 1 for International singles and it is mentioned alongside countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam where it debuted at number 1 overall including International as well non International songs.. The Song also debuted at number 1 in Billboard digital singles and Billboard world songs chart but it is not mentioned Song debuted at number 1 in USA. Then why it is mentioned song debuted at number 1.when the charts used as a reference is only for International singles but the sentence " Song debuted at number 1 in India, Vietnam" etc gives an impression that it debuted at number 1 overall (all songs included) Ha1231d (talk) 09:11, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- Sentence " The single debuted at number one in India, Philippines and Vietnam; number two in Malaysia and Singapore; and number three in Hungary, Indonesia, and Taiwan"
- This sentence is misleading . In India this song only appeared in International singles chart whereas in other countries song appeared in the charts which includes songs of all languages and Countries. Furthermore , in that same paragraph while mentioning position of song in Japan, it is clearly mentioned it appeared in Billboard Japan overseas chart to avoid misinformation and misleading statement where position of India is clubbed alongside charts which are general charts and not related to particular Genre or country or language Ha1231d (talk) 09:22, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- I am only trying to stop misinformation. If someone reads, song debuted at number 1 in India? what about be first impression of that person? Would they think it debuted at number 1 in only if non-Indian songs are considered or it debuted at number for all songs. Of course for most people impression would be it reached number 1 for all songs. That would be the impression. Moreover in that same paragraph where it is written that song reached number 1 in Japan overseas chart? Do you understand my point? Why it didn't say it debuted at Number 1 in India, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam? That sentence did not include Japan but included India. .
- As far as addition of billboard chart is considered, it was added because currently India don't have any chart which includes all songs but only for International singles which was only made couple of years ago .If there was Billboard chart which includes all songs and IMI charts which includes all songs, then I understand priority is given to IMI chart but these are separate charts so I don't understand whats wrong in mentioning different charts. - If its really important to mentioned position of India in paragraph , then just as in case of Japan where different sentence is used to mention its position and it is clearly indicated song reached number 1 in Japan overseas chart. In a similar way, position of India can be mentioned if you want to. avoid confusion. Because when it says song reached number 1 or number 2 in particular country, then a person would usually assume it reached number 1 out of all songs not just particular genre .Other countries are Philipinnes , Vietnam where song reached number 1 and this seems to be for all songs not particular genre. I am not sure about countries where it reached number 2 or 3. I havent done that much research Ha1231d (talk) 10:20, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- I have reverted all my changes to get consensus . But I request you 2 to give me proper reason why my edits were wrong because as explained I don't think there is anything wrong with them and also gave examples where similar edits have been made in this same article and similar formats has been used. And you have mentioned about if charts can indicate notable indication of success. Well, let me tell you IMI singles don't indicate that because it does not include majority of popular streaming apps in India, does not include radio etc etc and as told earlier does not include all songs but only foreign songs. So obviously it does not indicate notable success of the song. Billboard hit of world charts also have flaws but a better indicated of success atleast in India as it includes Indian songs also and not just genre'/country specific like IMI and moreover as far as I know it includes Youtube which is way more popular in India than spotify, amazon, apple etc which is includes in IMI. - I have below questions:
- 1 Why India is mentioned in list of countries where song appeared number 1 alongside Philippines, Vietnam? Difference is in those countries song appeared number 1 overall and whereas it is just type/region specific chart.
- 2. If region/genre specific position can be included then why Japan is not mentioned and statement is not " reached number 1 in India, Japan,,Philippines , Vietnam? Because song reached number 1 in Japan also but overseas chart and not their chart which are not based on region.
- 3. In the portion of the article which lists countries and their positions , i mentioned " India International singles chart" as its the name of chart but it was changed to only " India". Why is it done? What's wrong with this format? In same portion while mentioning Japanese overseas charts, it is not only written as " Japan" . My format is only giving true representation of charts and removing confusion of misinformation.
- If I get proper answer to these questions, then I won't edit
- Thanks Ha1231d (talk) 10:43, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- When you have been reverted you need to discuss. Billboard is not the main charts authority in India, IMI is. The sentence should read on the IMI International Songs Chart if that is the correct name of the chart. Otherwise, we use the chart that is most recognised within a country. Please don't make threats like "I will not edit if I get a proper answer". Take you have made your point and more than 1 person disagrees - take it to the talkpage of the relevant article and ask for WP:CONSENSUS, >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 12:49, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- There is no threat. I am not sure how this can be interpreted as a threat. I am sorry if it sounded like a threat of any kind but if someone say anything like that to me i won't interpret this as any form of threat but anyways I am sorry if that's what you felt.
- To reach consensus, I am not adding Billboard chart position but writing " India International singles" instead of writing just "India" because if full name is not mentioned, it can be misinterpreted as charts covering all songs in India but in reality chart only includes International songs (non Indian songs). And I am also making edit in sentence " Reached number 1 in India, Vietnam, Philippines " to "reached number 1 in Vietnam, Philippines" as in Vietnam and Philippines song reached overall songs chart not just International songs chart but in India song only reached Internal songs chart and not any chart including all songs .I am not sure why it can be clubbed with those countries but as a consensus, I am not gonna add Billboard chart position. I hope its okay. Ha1231d (talk) 13:03, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
