Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, HLC BRAND. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:GirlTrek, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Nick Moyes (talk) 00:26, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi,
I do not work for or have a conflict with GirlTrek. Am am receiving a 404 error when trying to publish pages because I linked to the GirlTrek website? HLC BRAND (talk) 00:30, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- OK, though I found it surprising that such an expansive, articulate and well-constructed article should be written in one-fell swoop by a brand new editor with a username which sounds like it might be an organisation, and thus have with more than one potential user (which isn't permitted). Have you had other accounts here previously? You may not publish an article until your account is autoconfirmed, so you should submit it for review at WP:AFC. It's highly likely that the wholly unnecessary list of media coverage urls is the cause- there's probably a blacklisted link in it. Please remove all these and just use the relevant independent ones as citations within the article. The rest is overkill. Please also remove the duplicate use of references by learning how to reuse a single reference. See WP:REFNAME for guidance. I apologise - I won't be able to reply to you today - it's 2am here and I'm in need of sleep. Regards from the UK, Nick Moyes (talk) 01:03, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the insight. I know this is my first article so I will try take in your notes to edit my draft and hopefully that will fix my problem. I just really think this is a cool organization so I wanted to write about it. Much appreciated, Hailey! HLC BRAND (talk) 01:20, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- I have flagged c:File:Morgan T. Dixon and Vanessa Garrison.jpg for deletion as you have clearly uploaded this without permission. Copyright theft is taken very seriously here, so be warned that repeated offenders may have their editing rights withdrawn. Please be more careful in future. Nick Moyes (talk) 20:24, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks - I guess. It was an honest mistake as I am still trying to figure out this Wikipedia/Wikipedia/commons stuff. It’s a lot. The image is actually not even in my draft anymore but I can’t publish the changes either. Nor did I know how to delete the image once it was uploaded - or even locate it for that matter. So thanks for “heads up”. I’m learning. 2600:8807:4C11:7300:AD94:1C9A:AE90:67D0 (talk) 20:34, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- No worries. I think the subject is not only a notable, but a very audable one. Unfortunately, my role is to apply Wikipedia policies without fear or favour, whilst also supporting editors who need assistance. (Bit of a good cop-bad cop, I'm afraid). BTW: Did you ask for your user account name to be changed? I think it's a good idea if you genuinely aren't a branding agency. But I can't see where that request occurred, yet DeepFriedOkra changed it for you. Did you make an application as an IP editor, in the same way as you've posted here just now? Don't forget to stay logged in when you edit. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:03, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you! And I understand. I did request a name change because I didn’t want to be confused again as an agency and I didn’t want that there to be any issues with me creating or editing. I googled name change request and I think submitted it through Wikimedia. Then it got approved and I forgot to log out and log back in so my username showed like above. I should be all good now. HaileyNOLA (talk) 22:18, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, that was very sensible. I was just very confused because I was unable to see any edit from you that had requested the change (I'm not authorised to see certain edits on meta). I am also a relatively new admin here, with just over a year's experience in that role, so I like to understand how things happen if I cannot determine it for myself. Hence my question to my fellow admin who made the change. I think your request was a very sensible one. Whilst there's absolutely no obligation for you to do so, you might like to think about saying a few words about yourself and your editing interests on your userpage. I always look there to gauge why an editor is active in certain areas, and tend to trust those with helpful userpage content a little more than those without any. Draft:GirlTrek
[edit]I am trying to publish my first article and keep getting a 404 error when trying to publish my changes. Can anyone help? HLC BRAND (talk) 01:36, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Did you ever find a solution to the RESTbase 404 error (other than redoing the work)? I keep having the same issue with another page. I've tried inputting information at least three different times, and each time I end up with this error. I don't know what to do!! Significa liberdade (talk) 01:12 2021, May 4 (UTC)
I had to redo the page. I really don’t know what was causing the issue. But I got tired of trying to figure it out. HaileyNOLA (talk) 01:25, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
