Replaceable fair use File:Jack Fitzgerald Calls on Ways and Means.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Jack Fitzgerald Calls on Ways and Means.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 11:41, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

ASSET
[edit]Would you please stop adding links to "ASSET" in all tax reform articles? It's marginally relevant to estate tax reform, but it wouldn't deserve a separate entry in tax reform, nor is it appropriate to link it in all tax reform groups. "Relevance is not transitive"; if "B" (tax reform) is relevant to "C" (FAIR), and "A" (ASSET) were relevant to "B", it would not mean that "A" is relevant to "C".
For the moment, "Estate tax in the United States" seems to be the only appropriate location. If ASSET is added as an article, then it might be linked in some templates, and possibly in tax reform, but not as a link in all (US) tax reform organizations. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 16:33, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Ruby Murray. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to National Black Chamber of Commerce and Estate tax in the United States because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Understood, thanks for the comment I really appreciate it. I am still learning the ins and outs of Wikipedia editing so this is very helpful. Also thanks so much for helping to improve the Americans Standing for the Simplification of the Estate TAx Wiki page.HIST406-13jlsilver (talk) 20:08, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Decline reason: The IP address you're using has been blocked, because it acts like a proxy server. While we could grant you IP Block Exemption, this would only be done if there was an actual need for you to edit from this IP address. PhilKnight (talk) 22:44, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
PhilKnight-- I understand that I do not need to edit from this IP address, however it is the one that I am on most consistently. If there is any way that you could overturn this autoblock I would really appreciate it. If not, I understand and will continue to make edits from my home computer. Thanks so much. As I said, I'm honestly unsure about the notability of the subject, so I'm hoping folks at AfD will provide some guidance. Further, if I were to pull the nomination at this point, what would stop some deletionist from resubmitting it immediately? As for your comments, as I see it the rule is that by default we trust everyone to be editing altruistically, so whenever someone insists in their edit summary that the subject is notable that reads as a case of the lady doth protest too much, methinks. Best to simply write something like "a new article" or "about a local car dealership", & allow the article to stand on its own merits. -- llywrch (talk) 23:20, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm commenting here because I got my article deleted and it sucks, I really hope you can keep yours. Some advice I would delete 2/3 of the article. Most of it is note noteable. The rewards section can go I think, embedd it into the history section. Community outreach could probably also be deleted if they aren't notable for this. Location & services section can go. I would also rewrite the starting sentence to be more about what the company is and not what it was, is Jack Fitzgerld really that noteable? E.g. I wouldn't start an article like this "IKEA is a company started by the rich Mr Kamprad in Småland Sweden... But that's only me, when reading the IKEA articles it almost read like that.. :-) Emj (talk) 10:49, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- Emj Thanks so much for your concern and willingness to help out a fellow contributor. I will definitely try to do a lot of these things in the coming hours especially deleting the location and services section. You're right, Jack Fitzgerald, while a big figure in the auto industry in Maryland, is not really that notable elsewhere. I had a couple questions for you and if you get a chance to respond I would really appreciate it. (1) So how long did it take for your article to be deleted once moved to AfD? (2) Is there anything else you would recommend that I do to help improve this article so as to avoid deletion? Thanks again, best HIST406-13jlsilver (talk) 13:25, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- User:HIST406-13jlsilver I can't say but it's not comparable, there is so much work on your page and so little effort on mine. Maybe llywrch can clarify how long it takes. Emj (talk) 23:38, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
- llywrch I understand that if you were to pull the nomination at this point someone may put it back into AfD, however I seriously doubt that because the article was basically untouched for a month after it was put up, besides edits made by myself and a couple bots. I'm just curious as to why you could not mark this article as somewhat like an advertisement, thus giving myself and other editors, such as Emj, time to improve it. It seems like it would've been more fair than just moving it to AfD by reasoning that you questioned its notability. I do seriously appreciate the advice on crafting a better edit summary as I am still learning the ins and outs of Wikipedia. I did have a couple questions if you get a chance - When do the folks at AfD typically act on an article that is moved there? And is there anything else you believe I should to do avoid deletion? Thanks! HIST406-13jlsilver (talk) 13:53, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
I just made several large-scale edits to the Fitzgerald Auto Malls Wiki page, which will hopefully convince you and the people over at AfD that this article should remain up and running. I will continue in my efforts to improve this page and all help directed my way would be greatly appreciated. Best, HIST406-13jlsilver (talk) 14:36, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
