Developing yet another countervandalism collaboration tool
[edit]Hi. I see that you are actively reverting vandalism. Would you be interested to give it a test run to a a Web 2.0 countervandalism collaboration tool that I develop? It's here: http://wpcvn.com/ The site is supposed to be intuitive. Can you try using it, patrol a few recent changes and give me some feedback? --Dc987 (talk) 04:42, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Very cool tool... would be nice to have the option of setting the links to go to the wikimedia secure server maybe? Oh and a scrollbar... or am I just missing it? Gz33 (talk) 07:58, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- I guess 'use https links' could be an option. Would you be willing to submit a patch ;) ?
- Scrolling. Uh. That's tough. Currently there is only pagination+filtering+sorting. But it looks like supporting scrolling is pretty much unavoidable. I'll see what I can do. --Dc987 (talk) 23:25, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Patch? Would but university's keeping me too busy sorry :( . I don't see this as too urgent an issue though as I doubt many other users are paranoid enough to use wikipedia https.
- The scrolling likely will be though as I doubt there are many screens out there which will actually be able to fit 100 edits on one page lol.
- On another note... It's my birthday yay!!!
- Good luck. ♠Gz33 (talk) 09:49, 31 May 2010 (UTC)♠
Welcome
[edit]Hello Gz33, and welcome to Wikipedia. I hope that you have enjoyed contributing and want to stick around. Here are some tips to help you get started:
- Learn the basics by reading the introduction and taking the tutorial.
- Remember to sign messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~) to automatically insert your username and the date.
- Enjoy editing to improve articles, but try to leave an edit summary to explain what you are doing.
- Create your first article using the Article Wizard to help avoid common mistakes, which may lead to article deletion.
- Although you don't need to be familiar with all of Wikipedia's policies, try to keep to the core principles and basic guidelines.
- When dealing with fellow Wikipedians, please remain polite, solve problems calmly, and remember that no-one is out to get you.
- Get involved with the community by joining a WikiProject.
- Make any test edits in the sandbox or click here and create a sandbox of your own.
- If you are having difficulty, consider finding a mentor to give you more personal advice.
- If in doubt, be bold. If you make a mistake, it can easily be reverted.
If you need any more information, plenty of help is available - check out Wikipedia:Questions; ask your question here and attract help with the code {{helpme}}
; or leave me a message on my talk page explaining your problem and I will help as best as I can. Again, welcome! strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 15:16, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

- {{helpme}}I'm planning to recreate a previously deleted article but cant find its discussion any more. any tips? Thanks gz33 (talk) 17:36, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Search for the name of the article (in quotes if two words) with the Wikipedia search, and then click 'advanced', and look on user talk pages - you might find the CSD/PROD/AfD notification, which might lead to a connection. Or search 'everything' and look around for it. You could try AfD archives too, Wikipedia:AFD#Search AfD discussions.
- If you know the name, if you go to the (non-existent) article page, the log at the top should say who deleted it, and why. That may lead to something.
- Google search can help, too - on terms you think were in it.
- Hope that helps; if you need more specific help, tell me what it is and I'll look for it. Chzz ► 17:43, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

These Four Walls is a rock band, from the North Shore in Auckland, New Zealand. Formed by Gray Vickers and Stephen Gibb in 2004, who met as a result of an online advertisement posted by Gray, who was looking to work with a singer.
The band released their debut album Down Falls An Empire on September 14, 2009. It was ranked #22 on the Top40 album charts.

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 01:04, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Habba syndrome
[edit]It appears the consensus was merge. I am not sure how it ending up being delete. It appears that the last comments were from someone unfamiliar with the medical literature. Uptodate is indeed a reliable secondary source. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:14, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
- Fair enough, a note should probably be made on the page it is merged to though that it is not universally accepted, or that it is a proposed cause, given the sparse amount of coverage it has received. Especially since the only mention of UpToDate in WP:MEDRS suggests it be used more as a guide to assess the importance of the literature it refers to, not as a primary source. In the end it's still referring to the same letter to the editor, and only really in saying that a connection "has been described" really only means it is agreed that Dr Habba has described it, not even that he believes it, or that anyone else does for that matter. This isn't to say that they don't, just that we can't reliably say they do. Having a reliable source that says that someone has described elephants as pink doesn't mean this is true. It could be an opinion, a lie, insanity, all of the above or none of the above. Note this doesn't mean I am insinuating Dr Habba is right or wrong, merely that neither can be confirmed. gz33 (talk) 04:37, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit]FYI, Caleb Reece's gang in Underground 2 is called The Wraiths. Some joker or jokers keep putting "Street Reapers" in there. They obviously haven't played the game as Rachel Teller specifically mentions "The Wraiths" by name in a cutscene. (SnakeEyesNinja (talk) 03:54, 2 July 2010 (UTC))
- So fix it. I'm not an admin so there's not really much I can do about it that you can't, but if I see any vandalism on that or any other page I'll revert it. Oh and please don't blank pages to get peoples attention. Cheers, gz33 (talk) 06:39, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for drawing my attention to Minnesota Math and Science Academy. I didn't delete the article, as it wasn't a newly created attack page, but a vandalised article. I have reverted to the last decent version of the article. It's always best before nominating an article for any form of deletion to check whether or not there are any previous decent versions that can be reverted to. If someone has vandalised in such a way that their revision needs deleting, it can be requested at WP:OVERSIGHT. Thanks for your help in fighting the vandals! Stephen! Coming... 09:23, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- Your welcome. I tried to find a good version to revert to but couldn't as it seems there have only been promotional toned versions of the article, negative revisions and stub sized ones. One things for certain, a rewrite is needed to correct the current promotional tone. Unfortunately seems to be a common case with school articles, people seem to all have an opinion on them (which is fair enough, but not appropriate for an encyclopedia). gz33 (talk) 09:50, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry that took so long, the edit filters didn't like me for some reason... gz33 (talk) 09:52, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- Not to worry; the edit filters have been playing up. I tried (and failed) to post a warning on the article vandal's page, but it wouldn't let me. Turns out I'm one of many people suffering this problem. Have a look at Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports#Group of errors triggered by a mistake. Stephen! - Yeah I looked up what I tripped and apparently it thought I was telling a your mum joke/insult. I'll just edit the article for NPOV then. gz33 (talk) 12:35, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- Just a quick question: how would you recommend handling this? I reverted it but would this be better handled as spam, or copyvio as it appears to be both since it was copied directly from the school's promotional website and repeats what's already in the article anyway. gz33 (talk) 23:08, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- Reverting it was perfectly fine, and for the reasons given in the edit summary. I wouldn't have done anything differently at all. As for wondering if you had inadvertantly done a "your mum" joke, if you had I wouldn't have been upset as my Mum is quite open minded and has a good sense of humour. Stephen! Completely new abortion proposal and mediation
[edit]In light of the seemingly endless disputes over their respective titles, a neutral mediator has crafted a proposal to rename the two major abortion articles (pro-life/anti-abortion movement, and pro-choice/abortion rights movement) to completely new names. The idea, which is located here, is currently open for opinions. As you have been a contributor in the past to at least one of the articles, your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.
The hope is that, if a consensus can be reached on the article titles, the energy that has been spent debating the titles of the articles here and here can be better spent giving both articles some much needed improvement to their content. Please take some time to read the proposal and weigh in on the matter. Even if your opinion is simple indifference, that opinion would be valuable to have posted.
To avoid concerns that this notice might violate WP:CANVASS, this posting is being made to every non-anon editor who has edited either page (or either page's respective talk page) since 1 July 2010, irrespective of possible previous participation at the mediation page. deOrphaning script
[edit]Hello everyone! I was just working on responding to a couple bug reports for a script that I worked up as part of a request from this project, and I noticed that only a couple people (who weren't even on this mailing list) are actually using the script. A little history on the script: In March of 2014, Jim Cartar came to my user talk page and said he needed some help in acquiring a script for a backlog drive that he was working on that could keep track of and score deOrphanings for a scored backlog drive. I took that request to the project's talk page (BackLog Drive "DO" (De-Orphaning) script proposal) and there was near unanimous support for this. I thought about the proposal and decided the best way to do it was to build a new script (which is still no where near as comprehensive as Manishearth's OrphanTabs) and build into it a mechanism that will make BLD scoring easy.
What I'm wondering at this point is, since there appears to be only two people using the script, should I continue to develop this script with a goal of using it for scoring BLDs or just debug the existing script and leave it at that. Thanks for any replies or comments.

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay
[edit]Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
