I reclassified this from vandalism (g3) to attack (a6). One note about CSD templates: the template is db-g3 not db|G3. The later displays as "because:G3," which is entirely unhelpful to someone not intimately familiar with the speedy deletion criteria. WAvegetarian 05:02, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Dear Gurubrahma, I am new to wikipedia and I came across your comments on the talk:Guru page. If you have time, could you kindly have a look at this article compare regarding "Guru in Hinduism"? Am a bit confused as to why it was so promptly deleted, and am not sure what went wrong... Many thanks. Miljoshi

Problem with user
[edit]Gurubrahma, I am just coming back to you following your post on my talk page referring to a problem you were having with User:Nirav.Maurya. I am sure you are aware but he has reincarnated under User:Rama's Arrow. Check out his user page, it makes interesting reading. It looks as his views are based on an strange eclectic mixture of Gandhi and American ideology (including George W.Bush's foreign policy). He says he is still searching for truth, I hope he finds it. As for what we do about his edits on Wikipedia, I have no answer to that, other than there is probably as much good as bad. --nirvana2013 19:22, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit]'Problem'
DYK on my artcle has got the following comment. What I have to do please? Can you explain to me. Referred this to Mr Bhadani as well. I think the article is deleted from DYK. Actually the scaling down does not help in this case of a sketch as in the case of photographs. Better to give only the link. Sorry to trouble you.
PS. I tried to use your drawing but it didn't scale well to the small size needed for DYK, sorry. --Duk 23:50, 21 November 2005 (UTC

[edit]Thanks for your opinion. Though good response is there the editing is only on grammatical side. I still feel the article requires checking and editing by field engineers/technicians as write up is only from my memory, as you know which fades with age. Better to wait for some more time and see. Even with Wiki Engineering, so far, I still miss this requirement.

[edit]Hi Gurubrahma. (I saw your question to Drew, and thought I'd answer it as nominator, since Drew is probably in bed (it's late in Australian time zones - I'm nocturnal)) There was a very disturbing incident in which an unscrupulous anonymous editor attempted to intimidate and even threaten Drew because of his username. Image:Vivek Paul.jpg and Roomba
[edit]Hi, your bot Roomba has listed the above for deletion as it is currently not used in any articles. However, it was being used in Vivek Paul and later, it was replaced by a newbie with an image that doesn't have source info. I wanted to mention this on WP:IFD and add back this img, but I found that it has not been listed there. Can you please guide me as to how I should be proceeding? Also, I think that Roomba shd also alert the uploaders of the image on their talkpage apart from listing it on IFD. 'coz, some of the heavy uploaders do not prefer to hv all their uploads on their watch lists. I prefer that you reply on my talkpage. Thanks, --Gurubrahma 04:22, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- If it is in use in an article, it will not be deleted. Put the image back into use replacing the no source image (an image with source is preferable unless you think the no source may be under a more free license), remove the tag (or don't I'll remove it within a day or two of the image going back into use). Because we can not legally claim fair use for images which we are not using, it is a criteria for speedy deletion for an image to be orphaned and fair use. Images must at least be orphaned at two points in time seven days apart before they will be deleted. In the past it has been shown that it is problematic to notify users beyond the ping on their watchlist, if the image is unused for a span of time there is a fairly low probability that anyone will be upset. (oh, and you can continue to reply here) --Gmaxwell 04:28, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- I am sorry, I almost forgot that it was criteria for speedy deletion. On one hand, this appears to be highly relevant due to the vast number of images being uploaded; on other hand, an image deleted cannot be undeleted easily. Anyways, thanks to you, I had a look at the Vivek Paul article as well and found that lot of anons hv been editing it. So, that also gets added to my watchlist now. And that was a fast response, thanks for that. --Gurubrahma 04:34, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh no problem. For whatever it's worth, I maintain a back archive of all our image dumps and can use it to restore many images. I'm also going to configure roomba in its next pass to ensure I have a copy of all images it tags. I'd like to get us to a point where we don't need to worry so much, if a mistake is made it can be fixed. I estimate that there are about 700 fair use images per week that end up abandoned in orphan status, so if we make the process around deleting them too complex we won't be able to keep up. Feel free to let me know if you have any other suggestions or questions. --Gmaxwell 04:52, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Admin nomination
[edit]Gurubrahma, per our discussions and work on reviewing your contributions to Wikipedia, it is my honor to nominate you for an administrator of Wikipedia. In moving this nomination forward, please follow these instructions I crafted for nominees I have nominated. Following these instructions helps to ensure a smooth running RfA. The nomination now exists at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Gurubrahma. I've reviewed your potential answers to the questions which you have posted at User:Gurubrahma/Archive01 and have made some copyedit changes (I hope you don't mind). The responses look to be done well. Please remember to officially accept the nomination and post your answers on the RfA prior to posting it at WP:RFA. Congratulations on nomination! If you have any questions during the process, please do not hesitate to ask. I'll be happy to help in any way I can. --Durin 16:55, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Also, please accept my apologies for the delay in getting the RfA crafted. There were quite a few things begging for my time this morning, and the accidental wiping of some work I'd done on the review did not help. :( --Durin 17:00, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- It's 23-0 now, and we're not even 24 hours into it. Looks like it will sail through without problems. --Durin 15:50, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Adi Shankara
[edit]Dear Gurubrahma; I saw your RfA (which I support) and wondered if you might have time to look at the Adi Shankara dispute. I'm at a loss to know what to do. One of the parties seems to be unwilling to settle this dispute with the other, despite the fair and equitable solution that I proposed (in my opinion). I would be grateful for your wisdom, but if you are too busy right now with your RfA or this matter does not interest you, I understand. You can reply here, if you wish. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 19:23, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, I've just spent some time reviewing the article. imo, the issue doesn't seem to be much about the content or the context of the article. I'm yet to go through the diffs, and I may not be able to come back to the page in the next 3 days as I'm left with some pending work. I don't want to do a slipshod job of providing comments if and when I enter the task. I've felt that you've given a lot of space to both the warring parties - my first impression is that I may not be able to improve upon your efforts. Anyways, since two minds are always better than one, I'll try and complement your efforts. It is past mid-night here and almost time for me to crash. However, there is enough time for me to thank you for your splendid efforts in resolving the disputes on an article about a luminary from India. Thanks a ton, --Gurubrahma 20:00, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments. An additional mind, especially one as perceptive as yours, would be very welcome. I don't think there is any particular hurry to resolve this. It is better to try to get it right. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 21:46, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Gruffness with newbies
[edit]Yup, I'm gruff. It doesn't hurt me to be reminded of this occasionally. I'm short on time and exhausted and I snap at vandals and POV warriors. Being a good Buddhist on Wikipedia is a challenge I often fail.
However, this guy ... he has a commercial web page, with an article re Ash on it, and he's using that hook to get his page featured on Wikipedia. In addition to the Ash article, he also created an article called The Most Beautiful Woman in the World which is nothing but a copy of his web page, and a link to it. IMHO, that establishes nefarious intent. I've got to put that page up for deletion, BTW. The prospect of the extra work to do that is what rilly rilly pissed me off. Zora 22:25, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- Gurubrahma, if YOU have the energy to run that page through AfD, please do! I would appreciate the help. Zora 05:40, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Sam Overland
[edit]Mr. Gurubrahma:
We take great offense to your comments about our colleague. Have you no sympathy for a man who is the victim of an international conspiracy? Do you believe everything that google tells you? This is a real social issue, not an "evil hoax". Dr. Overland was a good friend of the late Mother Theresa as well as HM the Queen. The information regarding this was covered up by MI5 and the CIA. That's why Dr. Overland is in hiding. You're so quick to denounce the truth, but someday, those you work for may denounce you.We request you recant.
Signed,
The Society for the Resurgence of Dr. Overland into Public Life (SRDOPL)

Message for you.
[edit]There is a message for you on my talk page. There were quite a few Presidents from British Commonwealth republics who were knighted before, or in a few very rare cases, during their term of office. Sir Clarence Seignoret, a President of Dominica was knighted during his term, as was Sir Quett Masire, a President of Botswana. In these cases, the constitutions of Botswana & Dominica do not contain anything about banning the use of titles, especially knighthoods. - (Aidan Work 01:48, 1 December 2005 (UTC))
Being a hoax isn't a candidate for speedy deletion, and nonsense is defined very narrowly there. If you'd like to place a speedy-delete tag on the article in the hopes that some other admin will delete it out of common sense, you should feel free, but I'm fairly conservative about deletion of articles. Thanks for the vandalism-reverting you have been doing, by the way. Jkelly 07:27, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

When did India stop awarding titles such as knighthoods?
[edit]Gurubrahma, do you know when exactly India ceased awarding titles such as knighthoods? I know that they would have not been awarded after the proclamation of the Republic of India within the British Commonwealth on 26 January 1950.
Also, do you know when the Indian Honours System was established? I know that the Bharat Ratna was instituted in 1954, & one of the first recipients was the last Governor-General of India, Chakravarti Rajagopalachari. Another was Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. - (Aidan Work 00:35, 4 December 2005 (UTC))

[edit]Hey Gurubrahma, I've run out of information sources on Jagjivan Ram. I found a photo of him here, which appears to be the only decent photo on the internet. I mailed the webmaster about copyright issues, and the mail bounced back. There's hardly any information available on the net. Do you know any sources. My reduced activity
[edit]Hi, saw your message. 50-0-0 is an impressive tally. The recent reduction in my edit frequency here is not solely due to my involvement with the Tamil wikipedia. Responding to you
[edit]Gurubrahma; First congratulations and well deserved!. You are a fine editor and it is very fitting with your editing background that you should be an admin. Wikipedia has improved with your becoming an admin. Second, thank you very much for your kind words and barnstar. They truly mean a great deal to me. I was very heartened to see that you garnered no oppose votes. I wanted the RfA to be about you and you only. Some of my faith in Wikipedia was restored by your RfA. Third, your comments regarding the IRC channel are very interesting and coincidental to a conversation I had with someone else regarding that very topic. Some of the issues you raise are a subset of what was discussed. In summary, I think it is very wrong that there is supposedly a wall between IRC #Wikipedia and Wikipedia itself. "IRC is not Wikipedia". Yet, there are innumerable ways in which the two resources are very intimately connected. Wikipedia is held to a high standard of behavior. #Wikipedia is not; anything goes. There is a great deal of hypocrisy floating around. Fifth, I recognize that my comments on my talk page will do little more than feed the trolls. I've repeatedly seen my words outside of that section twisted, perverted, tortured and intentionally misconstrued to base attacks against me. The more hate filled the rest of the world sees them the worse off they will be. They can spew all the hatred they want on IRC. Meanwhile, all of my contributions to Wikipedia are here, on Wikipedia, for all to see, judge, and act upon. I am not embarrassed about my behavior here and really do want them to attempt to bring an RfC or even an RfAr against me. The fact that they so far, despite my encouragement, have been unable to do so proves to me that their attacks have no basis in reality or policy. If ever you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask me. I'll be glad to help in whatever way I can. --Durin 13:20, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
PS: From most people's perspective it isn't in appropriate to note on your user/talk pages that you are currently up for admin. Most people do not consider it to be campaigning. If instead he said "I'm up for admin. Please vote in support of me!", that would be inappropriate. When I was up on RfA, someone placed templates on my user/talk pages to that effect ([1]). It's not something I would have done myself, but I don't see a big problem with it.
Congratulations
[edit]- My best congratulations to you. I am sure you shall emerge as one of the notable administrators. All the best. --Bhadani 14:41, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- Sure dear, we shall meet more, talk more and work more. In case, I had missed voting for you, it would have pained me a lot. Sometimes, such things do happen - even in my case, Sundar could come only after days. With all the best, --Bhadani 15:07, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
