David Harris (Rugby League Player, Parade College Raiders) on deletion review

An editor has asked for a deletion review of David Harris (Rugby League Player, Parade College Raiders). A World With No Boundaries

Hi, I recently cleaned up the article "A World With No Boundaries" but I can't work out how to un-tag it. I'm fairly new to all this Wikipedia business so please excuse my newbiness.

Angelbo 13:56, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

I second that barnstar - keep up the excellent work. I semi-protected this page and your userpage following this morning's spate of vandalism. Feel free to unprotect at your leisure when you feel the threat has passed. All the best, Gwernol 14:08, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

IP Address 62.171.198.4

You have recently threatened to block this IP address. This is a response to that.

This IP address is one used by schools throughout the UK. As a teacher I use it at work. This IP address (and others in the range) is regularly blocked for vandalism and warnings given. This seems to be totally pointless.

I realise that wikipedia has procedures, but there are exceptional circumstances where they clearly won't work and a new resolution needs to be found.

The IfL IP range is used by thousands of people throughout the UK, most of them schoolchildren, the rest school staff. Threatening to block this address will therefore have no effect whatsoever. An IP range that can be used anonymously by thousands of children and teenagers WILL cause vandalism if completely unblocked.

If the range were blocked then myself, other teachers and pupils with the right intentions will all be blocked from editing during the day, however, if unblocked it will cause vandalism. A difficult situation.

Is there any way that the entire IfL IP range could be blocked from ANONYMOUS editing only? This would mean that specific users could then be blocked, but those wishing to genuinely contribute still can.

Being relatively new to wikipedia myself, I don't know the best place to discuss this, perhaps you could point me in the correct direction?

Thanks in advance. Fork me 15:03, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the swift reply, I will raise the matter where you suggested. Fork me 15:25, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Jet engine changes by User:82.33.106.83

You reverted some changes to the Jet engine article and added a warning on the users talk page.

I looked over the changes, they didn't seem to me to be obvious vandalism, although I may have missed it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jet_engine&diff=78129862&oldid=78117848

I was planning to undo the revert and remove the warning on this anonymous users page, but I thought I should check with you first. Is there some specific concern here?WolfKeeper 17:15, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

why do you keep deleting khomenis picture? (in the iran section) keep it on and stick to the facts! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MassRefuge (talkcontribs) 18:50, 27 September 2006 (UTC).

When i looked who removed the picture from the Iran section it said you via anti vandal bot. Someone doesnt like khomenis picture in the article and keeps removing it, do you have any idea how to make sure this wont happen again ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MassRefuge (talkcontribs) 19:08, 27 September 2006 (UTC).

iam sorry to bother you again but Arad deleted the picture again for the fourth time since i started counting and since iam quiet new i cant find a way to message him about it.

Can you refer him to some admins because he keeps trying to shape Irans history as he likes it by deleting khomenis picture. Without a doubt one of the most important leaders in irans history and he just delets it everytime. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MassRefuge (talkcontribs) 21:35, 27 September 2006 (UTC).

Weebl's Cartoon: 72.224.114.205

The Weebl's Cartoon edit made by 72.224.114.205(I have an account now) on 9/28/06 is infact legitimate. The edit[1] was made in regards to the cartoon "Aaaaaaahhhhhh", which can be found on Weebls-stuff.com. This link to the cartoon was also included in the edit which links to the Weebls-stuff.com website which is what the article is about.

It is clear how one can suppose something which contains such a phrase as "Aaaaaaaahhhhah" is vandalism. However, it is disappointing that no one checked the links nor attempted to alter the section before reverting the changes.

If there is any way in which I can prevent future confusion of such matter, please let me know. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nevakee11 (talkcontribs) 23:56, 28 September 2006 (UTC).

David Harris

Hi,

Your speedy of this guy was endorsed at DRV basically per Wikipedia:SNOW, but I'd like to mention that counting "speedy deletes" in an AfD and applying IAR if they are in the majority (as you claim did) is really a terrible thing to do. Newbies/some AfD regulars like to scream "speedy delete" at everything -- an admin should decide whether a CSD sticks based on the CSD, not based on AfD commenters telling him to. Next time, if any established editor objects, just let the AfD run: many fewer headaches that way! :) Best wishes, Xoloz 15:35, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

My entry to Wikipedia

What an absurd message. Knee jerk reaction to something before you are aware of the facts. I have not edited the article since I was (politely, which is more than can be said of you) asked to remove it to the Wikibooks section, as I was unaware at the time that recipes were not allowed on Wikipedia itself. I suggest you be a little more friendly to people who have no interest whatsoever in vandalism, rather only to further the spirit of Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Peterkirchem (talkcontribs).

Your warning to User talk:64.12.117.14

You noticed that's an AOL IP? He's definitely made two idiotic edits this morning...but all of the other edits for that IP are probably not the same guy. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 17:20, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Total agreement, he's clearly acting like an idiot. But the 'despite previous warnings' part might not make sense to him if this is a new idiot. (Ongoing problem with AOL IPs.) -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 17:26, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Yup, looks like you got his attention. Look further up that talk page to the warnings about Weis Markets -- I had to request semi-protection for that page because it was constantly attacked from various AOL IPs...and we can't indef block an AOL IP. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 17:38, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

bad speedy deletion

Why did you delete this page instead of making it a redirect? The version you deleted was clearly a misguided attempt to create a redirect. It would have taken just as long to fix it as it would have to delete it. The fallout from this is that Vanderbilt University just sent out a press release about Muhammad Yunus winning the Nobel Peace Prize, except they misspelled it "Muhammed Yunus". Muhammed Yunus is the malformed redirect that you deleted instead of fixing. So all of the people who have been trying to pull up the article get a page saying that Wikipedia doesn't have an article on Muhammed Yunus. Perhaps you just didn't realize they were trying to create a redirect. Regardless, you may want to be more circumspect about speedy deletions in the future. Kaldari 19:52, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Request for protection on Minotaur and Labyrinth

Is there a policy on deleting blocked userpages?

I'm asking this because you deleted a bunch of userpages of users I blocked and now I need the blocking rationales which I wrote on the talk pages. Luckily for me, I'm an admin so I can retrieve those, so it's not that big deal, but anyway, I'd like to see the policy according to which you're deleting the userpages. Thanks, Dijxtra 08:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Just to reply on my block summaries part: the talk pages you deleted contained the full list of sockpuppets of blocked user, and you must agree that such info is not appropriate for block summary. --Dijxtra 11:22, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Werdnabot rollback?

I considered it, but I don't think so. One problem is that pages that were edited correctly by Werdnabot, recently, may have those changes rolled back too. I think it's better just to let people handle fixing their own talk pages as they see fit. -- SCZenz 15:50, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Userpage deletions

Please stop deleting Userpages of blocked vandals who have created many different sockpuppets; the categories associated with them exist on the User: pages, and there is no way of easily tracking them otherwise. Jayjg (talk) 20:21, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Just an FYI: After 3 attempts this user was finally blocked, however, shortly thereafter tried again as User:PI ETA Consulting Company which I had already blocked for their username before I saw the above. They're now back again as User:PE Con Co, however, I have taken these measures already. Glen 13:58, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

We do have onlyinclude tag. Inside the tag acts as is bounded by includeonly, and outside is noinclude'd. We should have onlyinclude here because interwiki links should be noinclude'd. --Puzzlet Chung 05:35, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for editing my article with GurchBot. I feel pretty damn stupid because I'm constantly correcting people who make similar errors. What can I say though? I've been living in France for 3 years now, I tend to make a few silly mistakes 'cause I'm not constantly writing English.

Banned user talk pages

Fon, are you Gurch? I was wondering about the wisdom of deleting talk pages of banned users. It can be quite helpful to read talk page posts of sockpuppets if they turn up again in another guise. SlimVirgin (talk) 21:31, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

I just came here to point out the same thing. Please desist from deleting users whom I tag as sockpuppets. Raul654 00:55, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your note. I don't see how we can easily reverse the deletions given there are so many; and we may not necessarily remember all the names and know which ones to restore anyway. The thing is that, in order to spot sockpuppet patterns, we do need to keep track of all the accounts that have been used. That's why they're tagged. This applies to blocked and banned users alike. Apparently some Zephram Stark sockpuppet pages have been deleted and now have been lost track of. I don't know what a temporary user page category is, or who would have tagged them as such. Are you deleting user and talk pages? SlimVirgin (talk) 05:03, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Gurch, did you not see my comment before from the 18th? You continue to delete user pages of users tagged as sockpuppets; in fact, one user page you've deleted twice already: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=User:Sappho_of_the_Far_Hemisphere Tracking sockpuppets is an important way Wikipedia deals with problem editors; please do not delete any more pages listed as sockpuppets, and please restore any others you have already deleted. Thanks. Jayjg (talk) 05:09, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. How it works is this: when a sockpuppet account is identified, it is tagged as "suspected or confirmed sockpuppet of X". That user/talk page is then placed in the X sockpuppet category. Any editor who suspects X is editing with a sockpuppet in future can go to the category page, look through all the sockpuppet accounts, check out the editing style, compare for similarities, go to the sockpuppet's talk page, see which other editors have posted there and about what issues, and so on. All of this helps with identification. Therefore, please don't delete any user or talk pages that are tagged as sockpuppets, whether or not they have offensive user names. We need to keep all the pages tagged as sockpuppets. It is not the separate accounts that are important in themselves, but their link to the sockpuppeteer. SlimVirgin (talk) 07:17, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for thinking you were Fon, by the way; I don't know why I thought that. SlimVirgin (talk) 07:21, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, Gurch, that's very helpful. SlimVirgin (talk) 07:35, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Userpage

Thanks! You gave me a good framework on which to build. I'm going to twiddle with it some more, but I want to spend some time with this style for a while first. Neat, clean lines are very soothing, and I need a lot of soothing. ;-)

I'm still having trouble with the status switcher script but it's got to be either a browser or a OS incompatibility. I'm on a Mac and I've debugged it in Safari, Camino (my favorite), and in Firefox versions 1.5 and 2.0 – no dice. I knew Firefox 2.0 for Mac was imminent so I waited for its release, but it didn't make a difference.

I'm not seeing the litle buttons on top like I (apparently) should, _but_ I can change /Status manually to in/out/busy and that triggers /StatusTemplate to change the box on my user page, so it sort of works. After considering it for a while I decided that it's not a big deal because I use cookies to stay logged in anyway. If I leave for more than a couple of days I'll just change it manually.

Well, back to killing linkspam... thanks again, and let me know if I can help _you_ with anything! KrakatoaKatie 06:51, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

If I'm having the problem, it seems quite utterly reasonable to assume that others will, as well. You'll have to forgive me for being bold -- I'm no enemy to consensus, as you might know if you'd seen the brief IRC discussion, but I assumed it would be a fix few or none would object to. More to the point, no one's reverted me that I can see, and if you're the only editor objecting to the change, you're likewise free to edit your css. Regards, Luna Santin 21:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
