Here is a place to talk about the Lab2 assignment.
Hints
[edit]- Learning is enhanced when the stakes are beyond those just in the classroom. Sometimes called 'powerful pedagogies,' learning mechanisms such as internships, study abroad, service-learning, student research, and tutoring are all instances of such experiential learning. Knowing that writing will be seen by others outside of the class increases interest in the topic and encourages students to do their best. Thyroidpsychic 16:36, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Working collaboratively is important for every scholar, but especially for those in interdisciplinary studies. Wikipedia forces editors to work together, in a mostly power-neutral relationship. While disputes can be worked out by those "higher up," it is better when those on the ground work out their differences on their own.-Peter
- Linda Seidel, Professor of English, was instrumental in helping to create the IDS major. She's probably a good person to look at what you've written. She might even have some sources to cite, or new information to add.Lvlnglafoftneatsteak 16:36, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Be sure to think about the tone of the articles. Who are the written for? Different audiences? Do you need any sources for this writing? Where might you get those? The Nixinator 16:35, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Deading with and evaluating sources is one of the most important aspects of the study of any discipline. Since interdisciplinary studies crosses lines of traditional fields, its important for students to evaluate sources beyond a single field. Since Wikipedia is field-neutral, it should be good practice for everyone. Marieprecious 16:36, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Kay Anderson, Registrar, manages the implementation of the IDS major, and knows the details of what needs to be done to complete the major. She's probably a good person to look at what you've written. She might even have some sources to cite, or new information to add. Meencantayoga 16:37, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- 1) Life sometimes isn't fair. Sometimes you lose, even when you work hard. Wikipedia is a place where your hard work is sometimes undone by someone else. It's important to learn to get over it.
- 2) If the Lab2 is properly wikified, the class grade will go up. Tokidoki27 16:38, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Read the assignment for the "reflective paper" for ideas of what to include. It will be given out in class on Wednesday.Fmandog85 16:34, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- The Syllabus seems like it would have useful information to include on these pages. (Ejm634 16:36, 15 September 2006 (UTC))
- As an interdisciplinary Studies major, it is important to learn multiple styles of writing, for multiple audiences. Wiki is a place with a specific writing style, specific source requirements, and an audience that contains both experts and novices.Tddwigg 16:37, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Be sure both pages are properly wikified-links internal and external sources, proper indentification and formating.Among other people(including you)Lousy articles will make ME l0ok bad, so i prefer not sucking.Maybe the part i wrote has a mistake on formatting even...~zach
List of stuff to do
[edit]830 Monday night- bubble. We're meeting to discuss the progress and consolidate all the information that we have.
Interdisciplinarity article
[edit]- fix the definition of Interdisciplinarity- Tony
- I have edited the article's introduction. I think it adequately describes our understanding of interdisciplinarity. See what you think.
- Shouldn't the note about recent additions being ours go on the talk page instead of in the actual article? Tokidoki27 01:41, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- done along with some other small edits Tddwigg 02:19, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

- I have edited the article's introduction. I think it adequately describes our understanding of interdisciplinarity. See what you think.
- distinguish between the different forms of disciplinarity i.e. inter, multi, cross, trans within the interdisciplinarity article- Jarrett
- I think I'm done. Go ahead and verify what I did.
- Looks good to my uninformed eyes. Becky Lauren Zack and Nixie are free to work their magic. Thanks! (Ejm634 23:22, 16 September 2006 (UTC))
- About the part under "Varieties of Interdisciplinarity" in which our book is mentioned: there isn't any references section on the page, but there is a list of further reading which closely resembles it. I went ahead and added an entry for Augsburg there; do you think we should still mention it within the article itself?
- Also, is "Varieties of Interdisciplinarity" really the best title for that section? Almost all the approaches mentioned in it aren't actually interdisciplinary. --Lauren
- I agree. I'm going to switch the title to "Varieties of Disciplinarity" and if there are objections, by all means, change it back. (Ejm634 05:40, 18 September 2006 (UTC))

- I think I'm done. Go ahead and verify what I did.
- create stubs for the different forms of disciplinarity- Jimmy
- The honorable job of grammar, spelling and punctuation- Becky, Lauren and Zack.
- Contact Kay and give her the low-down- Sarah
- I never did manage to get any response from Kay! Sorry 'bout that... Meencantayoga 21:51, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Same for Linda- Marie
- I talked with Linda. She gave me a lot of interesting background on the IDSM program. . .but I thought it wasn't really suited to either article because it was more specific to Truman than interdisciplinarity. So I sort of copped out and included ways in which Truman ensures that students don't take the IDSM major as a blow-off. Am I going to be voted off the island? :-( Marieprecious 02:29, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- wikify and format the articles- Nixie
- 4pp thingee Brett was working on- Brett
- I did some work on the four powerful pedagogies. I could write more but it would probably be getting a little boastful on Truman's behalf.
School and University Projects Page
[edit]- Complete information on the Wiki lab 2 project and introduce the syllabus and major application process as well as the board members (Adam Davis, Peter Ramburg, AJ, all thoes people). Be nice, they rule us! - Peter
- OK, I've added some information & am about to put more from the syllabus in there. However...I think the names of the board members would fit better on the Truman academics page. The School and University Projects page is about ALL colleges doing things with Wikipedia, and a handy little bar at the top tells me it's already kind of longer than Wiki would prefer. No disrespect to the board members, but I'm not sure putting their names on that page would really clarify our program much more. Thoughts? P-Chiddy 15:39, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Also, as far as putting syllabus information on Wikipedia, I think that would be better suited for the Truman academics page as well. Since the S & UP page is about Wikipedia itself, putting content from our Wiki-unrelated-syllabus wouldn't really fit there. P-Chiddy 15:51, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that such info should be on a Truman Academics page...that means we need to start one, right?? Meencantayoga 21:54, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think we have time to do anything really decent in the next thirteen hours. Besides, if we're doing general Truman academics, nothing from the syllabus from this particular class would be very relevant. Tokidoki27 01:19, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Good point - then this section is done. P-Chiddy 02:30, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

When you guys finish something put a little comment on the end saying that it's done.
Progress Report
[edit]- I just wanted to say that I have looked at the pages and think that they all look well and in order. It was a pleasure working with everyone and I am really pleased with our outcome. Let's hope Prof. Alberts and the wikipedians are too! Tddwigg 02:23, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Removal from PROD2 category
[edit]- Just wanted to say that I added <noinclude></noinclude> around the {{prod2}} on this page, so that your lab page is not included in the PROD2 category. Wickethewok 13:34, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
