Candidate advertising

Request reason:
I was not advertising any product and certainly not spamming. At least not to my knowledge. Please know that I am a keen Wiki editor and want to be fully compliant. Gurcharan Singh is a notable person who has held the post of Ealing Mayor as well as having marched for human rights
Decline reason:
The problem is that your edits, in combination with your username, make you appear to have a conflict of interest on the subject of your edits. - Vianello (Talk) 22:51, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

OK, I see your point on the username - doesn't help me to appear as an independant author. I can change that immediately. I'm not sure which part of the edits show a conflict though. A lot of the information was sourced online and having had access to Gurcharan Singh's CV and conducted an interview with him. Can you please recommend a way forward. I'd like to get an article published asap as the elections are due to be held soon (May 6th)
Decline reason:
Wikipedia may never be used to WP:PROMOTE - especially for political purposes - that's what personal websites are for. Being a candidate for something does not make someone notable. Being on Wikipedia does not confer notability either. Personal discussions with the candidate would be considered original research and not permitted. It appears this account is related to a political candidate, the the sole reason to exist is to promote this candidate - either way, it's not appropriate for Wikipedia. Request reason:
I fully appreciate and accept what you are saying. I would like to put to you that we were not fully conversant with the Wiki policy (of course the onus is on me to make sure I know the rules). Would you allow me to give it another try? The rational behind creating this page is not to promote G Singh but to make information about him available. He is not considered notable because he is a candidate, he is considered notable for the positions he has held and for what he has done in society e.g. he was the Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing and raised more money for charity than any of his predecessors. I would like to wholeheartedly dispute the article I wrote was written in the interest of any party. It simply presented the facts. So, may I suggest we start again? If there are disputable areas of teh article, can you be specific and tell me what they are so I can rectify them? Please note, I am willing to work completely in accordance with your guidance.

You have asked for guidance - it is below. If you agree, use the {{unblock-spamun}} template to request unblock and then visit WP:UNC once unblocked (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:42, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

- Would you terribly mind my asking what the timing of the elections has to do with the creation of the article? - Vianello (Talk) 04:17, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- Not at all Vianello - it just makes the availability of that information more beneficial to constituents and potential voters. Ideally, the article would have been published much earlier. The history and track record of each candidate is information that should be in the public domain. Having said that, the election itself is not the main reason for its creation. The main point is that Gurcharan Singh is a noteworthy individual of interest. I'd be gratefull if you shared your thoughts. GSinghOnline (Talk) 09:13, 20 April 2010 (GMT)
- Phew. This is a tough spot for me, I have to confess. With the "we" as well as your username choice, I assume you probably represent a group which is in some manner connected to this candidate. Wikipedia accounts are expressly for individuals, not collectives, and it does betray a strong conflict of interest. But you've been very reasonable, and COI aside, if you honestly can offer objective, completely neutral information, then that's good information, regardless of who put it forward. I'm going to think on this a little bit. Hopefully someone else will see your unblock request and chime in with a second opinion. I may go "beat the bushes" for other input if not. - Vianello (Talk) 17:16, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- Trying to promote or not, your username is still not appropriate. Change your username if you want to edit here.--Martha's Gold Rush (talk) 00:12, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Guidance Statement: I would be willing to unblock if, and only if:
- account becomes renamed at WP:UNC - a username change unblock request would be needed
- only one person ever uses the account
- no further attempts are made to introduce this or similar articles again
- no attempts are made to introduce information related to the person to other articles, except when the article already exists and is directly related to this individual
- links to any website, blog, etc that is owned/used/maintained by or for this individual are not introduced to any Wikipedia article
If you agree to the above, please file a username change unblock request, which will be followed by a trip to WP:UNC (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:08, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
