No longer actively editing articles

[edit]

I've been taking active part in editing the article for the animated series Daria (and some linked sub-articles) for four years now. But I've become tired of its being a constant electronic palimpsest. I've also detached from the residual (and dwindling) fan community for it, for over a year now. So I've removed references to the article on this page, and the user-box for Daria fans on my User page.

I suppose my edits of Daria ended up being a disproof-of-concept case — to see whether I could put up with an everyone-can-edit philosophy that I've never really agreed with. My opposition to its ultimate and irredeemable subjectivity was a subject I brought up with Jimbo Wales, personally and on private mailing lists, long before he started Wikipedia.

I also am weary of dealing with more anonymity than I can really endure, any more, on the Internet. For example, I'd rather not enter into dialogue, however courteously requested (see 24 January 2009), with anyone who hasn't yet chosen to obtain a unique user account.

So I'm choosing to not do active editing any more ... okay, I do have one exception, though. Maybe a second one. Those are more esthetic, emotional, and sentimental attachments. Everyone, methinks, has to occasionally have one or two of those. - Greybird (talk) 04:00, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inadvertent IP blocking removed

[edit]

I've spoken with FT2 and decided to grant your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks without affecting you when you're logged in. Please read Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

I hope that you'll put this inconvenience behind you and continue to contribute to Wikipedia. :) east.718 at 11:50, June 3, 2008

Thanks for your help in resolving this for me. - Greybird (talk) 12:21, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Steve - to answer your question, your account will never get autoblocked again, so you don't have to worry about rebooting your modem. Yours, east.718 at 13:10, June 3, 2008

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
