[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, but at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to ODAC, did not appear to be constructive and has been automatically reverted (undone) by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.
- Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Note that human editors do monitor recent changes to Wikipedia articles, and administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism.
- ClueBot NG makes very few mistakes, but it does happen. If you believe the change you made should not have been considered as unconstructive, please read about it, report it here, remove this warning from your talk page, and then make the edit again.
- If you need help, please see our help pages, and if you can't find what you are looking for there, please feel free to place "

"Black Panther Party"edits
[edit]The information you added about Mark Comfort appears to be unsourced. I do not know whether it is correct, or not, however any information added to the article must be sourced. Thank you. Apostle12 (talk) 10:20, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Unsourced? But the sources are right there at the bottom... Or do you mean on the Black Panther Party page?Greenskorpion (talk) 02:59, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, the Black Panther Party page. Unfortunately, the section you added to the lede is still not properly sourced. You reference p. 15 of Curtis Austin's UP AGAINST THE WALL, however p. 15 only refers to Comfort's contact with Carmichael in Lowndes County, not to Comfort's direct influence on Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. In fact on p. 34 Austin writes, "Newton recounted that sometime in early October of 1966 he stumbled upon the name of the organization. One day, he remembered he had been reading a pamphlet about voter registration in the South detailing the efforts of the Lowndes County Freedom Organization in Alabana. Newton was struck by the image of a black panther, the symbol this group used to identify itself...At this point Newton decided to name their 'political vehicle' the Black Panther Party. Seale agreed with the moniker 'without discussion' and the two began to move forward."
- Nowhere in Austin's book is Mark Comfort credited with influencing Newton's and Seale's choice.
- You will need to distinguish between the Black Panther Party of Northern California (BPPNC) and the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (BPPSD). These were two distinct organizations, although they did co-operate during Betty Shabbaz's visit to the Bay Area in 1967. I am not sure exactly what Comfort's relationship with BPPNC was (perhaps he had something to do with creating it after his Lowndes contact with Carmichael), however I do know that Austin makes reference to Comfort on pp. 77-78, saying that Comfort suggested that the Dowell family of Richmond contact BPPSD after their son was killed by a Contra Costa County sheriff's deputy.
- There is also the matter of Newton's seizing of the Black Panther name, which he took at gunpoint. I do not know the details of this story, however it may have relevance to what you want to write about. My time is limited this evening, and I tried to find Austin's reference to this event, but failed. Careful reading of the first several chapters of UP AGAINST THE WALL will reveal it.
- Whatever you decide to write, you will need to place it in the main body of the article, not the lede. The lede is intended to summarize the article body, and you can make brief reference to Comfort's contribution in the lede, however the final form of the story should not appear there.
- Hope this helps. Apostle12 (talk) 09:36, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
I have a photo of mark i'd like to post on the page but I don't believe I am allowed to post pictures. Any way you can do it for me? The picture is mine. Greenskorpion (talk)
- Do you intend to post the photo on the Black Panther Party page? If so, you should first write a section explaining his relevance to Party history. I have posted a few pictures to Wikipedia that are my own; it's quite easy. Can help you with that if you wish. Apostle12 (talk) 23:52, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
i want to put it on the Mark Comfort page Greenskorpion (talk)
