Copyright violation
[edit]Hello Grbb! Your additions to Nick Baker (Kentucky politician) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. ⸺(Random)staplers 01:18, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
Wikilink problems
[edit]You might want to review Help:Link, since I noticed you put in broken links on Nick Baker (Kentucky politician). In general, you should press the 'Show Preview' button to make sure the markup renders correctly. You can also use the sandbox to practice editing pages on Wikipedia.⸺(Random)staplers 18:28, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oh by the way, if you're adding content, that isn't a minor edit.⸺(Random)staplers 18:57, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Noted. Minor would refer to orthographic or style changes, then? Grbb (talk) 19:23, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks -- I see the links are gone now. Not sure what went wrong, but I'll use the preview function in future. This is one of my first jobs on this site. Grbb (talk) 19:22, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Do you have a conflict of interest? If so, you must delare it.⸺(Random)staplers 19:46, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Mvcg66b3r. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, WBNA, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 23:00, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. I added similar (but not the same) material which draws from the same citation as the text around it. Grbb (talk) 17:28, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- No hard feelings. By the way, if you need help, just ask my good friend @Sammi Brie:. She's an expert in this field! Mvcg66b3r (talk) 17:33, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. I really appreciate it, and I think your edit made the entry much stronger. @Sammi Brie's list looks really impressive and in fact I am making a few more radio station page edits so I may call on her. Thanks again. Grbb (talk) 17:39, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

- @Grbb If you want help rewriting pages without the use of copyvio, I'd be able to help. I'd also like to show you how to not use bare URLs in citation, if you'd like. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 22:56, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. I struggled with re-writing those pages so any help is much appreciated. The weird footnotes are also a source of frustration -- I'd like to see how to tidy those up. Is there something I can read? I appreciate your feedback. Grbb (talk) 04:30, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
