Hello, I'm Belbury. I noticed that you made a comment on the page User:Grapefanatic that didn't seem very civil, so it may have been removed. Question from Wik206 (14:36, 18 April 2023)
Hello I'm a new user and I'm not the most familiar with the Wikipedia etiquette so I want to tell you what I've done so far and ask if they counted as good or bad edits Firstly their was the interracial Wikipedia page which I thought was a bit odd because it has a legality section which only lists times it's been outlawed in the past so I added a few stub sentences at the beginning saying it's legal in most places. Nextly I found a Wikipedia page about a show I've seen which had a fact about the show which was misleading and wrong. I double checked to make sure I was right and corrected it but I feel like I didn't write it with the most clarity. Did I make good or bad edits here adding a throwaway stub with an obvious fact, and making an edit that enhanced accuracy but reduced clarity? Also what are these bytes I get from editing? --Wik206 (talk) 14:36, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- I see nothing wrong with the edits in question and your etiquette seems to be very advanced for the amount of time you have been on here. Keep up the good work! -- Grapefanatic (talk) 19:06, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thankyou! One last question, theirs an article I've been eyeing which I feel could be improved by adding a paragraph of information but no one else has mentioned it (there are discussions on the talk page about other things but not this ). I've already done a little research and found some things, is it alright for me to just yolo it based on my better judgement and make a complete overall of it or do I need to wait for someone to reply to my question about it on the talk section? Also how do I cite a source is it similar to linking?
- Tldr:can I make moderate edits using my own judgement solely? Wik206 (talk) 22:49, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- also congrats on editing the grape page Wik206 (talk) 22:52, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Wik206, you know, you can be bold and improve the article itself without consensus, if it is reliably sourced! And for the citing sources, for starters, you can insert:
- <ref>[URL ]</ref>
- This should convert it into a reference. Hope this helps! Tails Wx 23:13, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- Holdup do I need to site in MLA? Or do i jsut bracket the source and wikipedia does the rest? And do I add it to the bottom of the source list? Also is their a way to do it in visual editing too, though I'm fine with using the interface for now. Or if I just do the <ref>[URL]</ref> is that it and wikipedia magically does the rest?
- In short, I am very confused. Wik206 (talk) 02:14, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- It worked! Nevermind I'm good now. But is their also a way it in visual mode? Wik206 (talk) 02:16, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi again, Wik206! Yep! There is a way to cite in visual mode! There's a "quotation mark" on the top toolbar when you enter visual editor, then for the automatic citation, you can just copy-and-paste the URL and it automatically generates it for you! For manual, follow the instructions for it, though I use automatic more often! Tails Wx 02:18, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Tails, Thanks for the info, also this might be outside of your job description but I just published my changes which I feel are inadequete, a bit opionated and not of the proper tone, but still overall a neccesary improvement. I understand if you decline because this is probably more work then answering questions but can you read over the first three paragraphs of the legality section in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interracial_marriage and tell me if it looks up to standard on a cursory glance. Wik206 (talk) 02:31, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Wik206, I've made some fixes, though some of your added information is still there, and I feel like those can remain there! Unless, of course, someone else can take a review and fix that as well. Anyway, I've made some fixes, hopefully you're satisfied! Tails Wx 02:49, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

- Does my user page have to be serious/formal or can I post whatever as long as it isn't offensive/hate speech/marketing/something obviously wrong.
- Could it be something comical like just the word "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaans", or a few brief philosophical snipets? (Edit) also could I put something on long the lines of this user is a wanted criminal or something if it was done in a way to be obviously false? Wik206 (talk) 04:21, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- To the first half of your first question I would say you don't have to be 100% serious/formal, to the second half of that question you are correct as it is against the rules to have stuff like that on your Userpage. I'd say the perfect amount of comedy for a userpage would be about a 2.5:4 ratio of comedy to seriousness. As for philosophical stuff, you could if you want. For your last question you would have to make it extremely obvious that it is a joke. -- Grapefanatic (talk) 12:20, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Question from USFBMann (15:26, 11 October 2023)
Hello grapefanatic, I've run into some issues regarding an edit I'm trying to make to a page. I work for the University of South Florida, in Tampa, FL, USA. Specifically, I'm the communications manager for the Global and National Security Institute (GNSI). The Executive Director for GNSI is a retired US Marine Corps General, Kenneth F. McKenzie. He asked me to make some edits to the Wikipedia page created for him (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_F._McKenzie_Jr.)
I've become aware since I tried to edit the page, that I am considered a PAID EDITOR and must comply with Wikipedia disclosure requirements. The editor for McKenzie's Wikipedia page has been only slightly helpful.
I understand I am supposed to put some sort of tag on my main user page to disclose that I am a paid editor. Can you suggest how I do that or what it would look like?
Thanks for your help. --USFBMann (talk) 15:26, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Nadine September (11:05, 21 October 2023)
Hello mentor😁 why can't I see the thing in red --Nadine September (talk) 11:05, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
- The red means that the page has not been created yet and you haven't visited it,reddish brown means the page does not exist and you have visited it, blue means that the page exists but you have not been to it, and purple means the page exists and you have visited it. Though that may not always be true for signatures as some people have specific colouring like me. -- Grapefanatic (talk) 12:17, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

- For example, I want to add an image in the table on the right-hand side of this article about Arun Yogiraj!
- The image will obviously be of Arun but downloaded from his website so, can I add an image like that? Erricyash (talk) 11:53, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- It would depend if the image is free use (not protected under copyright laws) or fair use (protected by copyright laws). You can not upload fair use images to Wikimedia Commons (the Wikimedia Foundation site for sharing images in which all images from Wikipedia originate from), you can upload free use images to Commons. I'm pretty sure there is an image approval process, although there might not be. I forgot how to insert images but I will reply when I find out. -- Grapefanatic (Talk) 13:28, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Your edit was already reverted by another editor in The JoJoLands article, but anyway, I don't know where are you getting that writing 'DIO' instead of 'Dio' is not violating what the MOS indicates, when neither the Dio Brando nor Stardust Crusaders articles write his name that way (except in very specific sections), precisely because it does go against what the MOS indicates. Question from Gardendcs (20:37, 12 April 2024)
Hi! I submitted an article for view. I am a member and have volunteered at Gibbs Gardens, not sure if that is a conflict of interest to disclose. the concept of 'conflict of interest' is confusing. there is so much more I could say but worked hard to keep things neutral and fact based and have lots of sources/citations. Any feedback is welcome. Thank you --Gardendcs (talk) 20:37, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- Taken from WP:COI, Conflict of interest (COI) editing involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships. Any external relationship can trigger a conflict of interest. Someone having a conflict of interest is a description of a situation, not a judgment about that person's opinions, integrity, or good faith. There are two "types" of COI; the first type is general (which is what was just described), and the second type is paid COI. Paid COI when you are being paid to edit an article. -- Grapefanatic (Talk) 13:45, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- General COI is disclosed by using this template --> {{UserboxCOI|1=Wikipedia article name}} . Paid COI is disclosed using this template --> {{Connected contributor (paid)|User1=Username of the paid editor|U1-employer=Name of person/organization that is paying for the edits|U1-client= Name of client|U1-otherlinks=Insert diff to disclosure on your User page.}} . -- Grapefanatic (Talk) 13:51, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Question about how to revert vandalism/how to block a user from vandalism.
Hello! I only just recently started editing Wikipedia pages, and I have gotten to the point where I have begun to make larger edits or edits on larger pages.
I am just curious about how to handle pages/text that gets vandalised. Is there a quick way to reverse the damage, or will you need to copy/paste the info again?
I have also seen that some users have been blocked from their wiki account for vandalism, so I am just curious as to how it happens/who can do it!
Thanks for reading! FreckleTheCat (talk) 00:35, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- Ah!! This is a very good question and I would be glad to answer it for you. You can undo vandalism with the "Undo" button, in which it will show you what you will be undoing so you can be sure that you wish to undo it, the next step is to type in an edit summary for the reason of removal, and finally you can click the confirmation button. -- Grapefanatic (Talk) 12:25, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- Users can be blocked for many different reasons, but vandalism is a prominent one. The people who carry out these Blocks are called sysops (system operators), though most call them admins. Sometimes admins come across a blatantly obvious vandal and block them, although some vandals are blocked through AN:I, (Administrators Noticeboards: Incidents) A process that can take anywhere from seconds to weeks. I hope I answered your question! -- Grapefanatic (Talk) 12:29, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- You did, thank you very much! FreckleTheCat (talk) 11:20, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
