Yo!
[edit]Namaste, Gram-ji (imagine anusvara atop "Gra"). So how do you feel about the fact that some belief articles are part of a "mythology" project but others are under "religion"? Basically, myth = widely held lie. Also, would you mind if I asked you some random questions about India, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Devanaagarii from time to time? Welcome to Wikipedia! - Doesn't Garuda sometimes occur in the plural, as the name of a race? (Sorry, I'm just a random passerby) --Iustinus 17:43, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm, checking the Garuda article, I see that there is indeed a race of "garudas", but this is in Buddhism, not Hinduism. Sorry for the confusion! --Iustinus 19:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
malayalam
[edit]Hi,
Could you explain your change to the Malayalam example in Inclusive and exclusive we? Is it underspelled ñaṅṅaL, but really starts with a prenasalized stop, ñjaṅṅaL ?
kwami 20:55, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, my mistake (I thought ñ was supposed to be like the spanish letter, which is slightly different).--Grammatical error 06:43, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Śakra / Indra
[edit]Yes, the name or epithet of Śakra is sometimes used for Indra (though in the text of the Vishnupurana you linked to the identity wasn't always clear, and in one case it may have been used for a different deity). But the primary distinction that needs to be made here is between the Buddhist and the Hindu deities. Even if the names used were exactly the same, they have different myths and different status in the respective religions, and you can't assume that because something is true of the Hindu Śakra that it's true of the Buddhist Śakra, or vice versa. As far as the names go, Śakra (or Sakka) is very common in Buddhist texts, and Indra is rare, and half the time Indra appears it could be interpreted as an ordinary noun. In Hindu texts Śakra for Indra may not be uncommon (I don't know this) but Indra is certainly both more common and older. So it makes sense to split up the articles with Śakra for the Buddhist deity, Indra for the Hindu one, and a brief note in both indicating how the word is used in the other religion. RandomCritic 22:15, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- I thought the whole point of buddhism was to have no gods and rejection of the vedas. I really see the need for separation of such things because without the Hindu gods for a base there wouldn't be any buddhist ones. Never understood why buddhism tries to be so separate.--Dangerous-Boy 10:18, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, but the personalities and histories of the Hindu gods were changed after being adopted into Buddhism. I can see why Śakra should be a separate article, as people looking for Buddhism-related information would be confused were it a redirect to Indra. However, the likes of Yama certainly don't need separate articles detailing the Buddhist view. --Grammatical error 15:29, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Any help would be appreciated. Maybe sort out what doesn't need to be expanded or make a complete todo list. Remove whatever articles you see fit.--Dangerous-Boy 10:47, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

little help in hindu myth cat.

Hello! Can you check up on this article? They are having a discussion about the pronounciation of his name. Since you are familiar with phonetics (you are, right?) could you please provide a correct pronounciation guide? I dont know how to get the ' ള ' sound accross in English (I dont know phonetics). Rakshasa (fiction)
[edit]Is there any better cat, then? In general, I try to keep specific articles out of Category:Fictional characters itself, and instead have them stored down in the sub categories. Category:Fictional characters can easily become very, very, very cluttered if this is not done. It had hundreds of articles directly in it before I started regularly pushing articles down to more specific subcategories. So if you can think of a more specific category somewhere under Category:Fictional characters, it would be greatly appreciated. - TexasAndroid 14:53, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe Category:Fictional species? - TexasAndroid 14:57, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- The PD cat works, but leaves something missing. The Myth in fiction cat you propose seems to fill that. We would need to see about getting the new cat correctly populated, but I think that it could work. Do you have any problem with the new cate sitting under Category:Mythological characters itself? That could show nicely how it is separated out from just mythological characters where you had a problem with my moving the Rakshasa cat. - TexasAndroid 15:06, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Or better. Remove Myth Char from Fic char, put MCiF under MC and FC. Then MC itself is for the original mythological characters themselves, without any link to fictional nature, and MCiF sits below it, with the fictional parent as well. Let me set this up, and let me know what you think... - TexasAndroid 15:09, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. I just got a *bunch* of them subbed into it by adding MCiF as a parent to Mythology in comics. That right there gives us a large bunch of the comics stuff already, without needing to toss individual pages in. - TexasAndroid 15:17, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I want your opinion on this particular person Pradip Somasundaran. He claims to be a famous singer in Kerala. Now being a Malayalee, I have not heard of this person before, so I wonder whether or not you have heard of him before and set this issue straight. If so, then please let your opinion be counted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pradip Somasundaran. Please note that by voicing your opinion as a Malayalee/Keralite will add more weight to your words.
Many Thanks --Ageo020 21:42, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Tom Dobin
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tom Dobin, because another editor is suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page.
