Proposed deletion of Apartment Story

[edit]

The article Apartment Story has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication that this meets WP:NSONGS. lacks 3rd references.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 18:38, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Gongshow! I saw you voted for deleting Megarex. In fact, it had no references. I added some references I found about this band and its importance to Brazilian music and, then, I explained the reasons to keep the article in Wikipedia, according to band. Take a look there, please. I hope you change your opinion about that. Thank you!Victor Silveira (talk) 02:23, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Gongshow, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, which can be fixed and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

DOCTOR Strange

[edit]

(in the background, the echoes of head thumping against wall) I can't believe I referred to the great man as 'Dr. Strange' in my Barry Windsor-Smith page rewrite. I would almost rather eat my own soul than disparage my all-time favourite character ever (it's cost me rather more than I care to contemplate over the years to collect a complete run). I'm off to flog myself comatose with the Nine Sacred Branches of the Sons of Satannish (without a sauna first). Thanks for the correction! Cheers! Archiveangel (talk) 14:21, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, and thanks for taking the time to write me. Don't be too hard on yourself. One time at a comic shop, I tried to find an issue of Doctor Strange, and was confused when I discovered his books were located after those of Donald Duck and Doom Patrol. I thought I was doing the shop a favor when I spent a good several minutes rearranging the titles. Once I explained that I was only trying to keep consistent with Wikipedia, as Dr. Strange is a disambig page, the worker understood and gave me a free button as a token of his appreciation. As I recall, the button read "I'm a tool", which I naturally interpreted as "I'm a valuable tool in helping the store achieve greatness". Seriously though, excellent job expanding the BWS article! Thanks to your work he now has a page that's worthy of his stature as a comic book legend.  Gongshow Talk 19:19, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Barry Windsor-Smith (follows on from above)

[edit]
Thanks for that - appreciated, it always helps to know that perhaps you're the right track :-). Not disparaging anyone, I hasten to add, but I was astounded to find BWS hasn't a net presence that gives him the credit he's due as an innovator (inc Wikipedia). Sure he's not a classic superhero artist, or a member of the 90s impossible physiology trend and scrappy storytelling like Kirby on acid that (to me) helped wreck things in many ways (and made me step out of comics for a long while). But his style must surely be almost unique in comics (Winsor McKay? Hal Foster?), was a serious talking point for years to us buying comics back in the early Conan days, and at an artistic level is so far beyond almost everything going on at the time that ... not to mention his stand against the companies pay rates and terms, which few stood in the firing line for at the time.
In some respects it's a shame you have to be objective on Wikipedia - BWS could easily be argued as an exception so you can shake people by the collar and scream 'LOOK WHAT YOU'RE MISSING'. Even his own web site, beautifully produced as it is, has a somewhat melancholic resignation to a past to it (how Pre-Raphaelite) I can't believe how cheap his prints are compared to so many lesser talents ... ah, well, monuments are built stone by stone. Cheers! Archiveangel (talk) 13:53, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know what you mean, BWS would have to rank pretty high up there on the creator totem pole. I'm surprised to hear his prints are relatively cheap in comparison to others...not that I'm an expert in collecting in that area, but for his die-hard fans that might not be such bad news, as it makes his stuff somewhat more affordable, I guess.  Gongshow Talk 18:36, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! You were recently involved in an AfD discussion regarding the article KSM (band). I just updated the page and was hoping for some honest feedback. Note that I am not a fan or in any way connected to the subject, but I am rather new to Wikipedia and this is my first “blind” rewrite. Comments, criticism, and advice are all welcome. Of course, please do any additional editing to improve the article if you can. Thanks in advance. --Logical Fuzz (talk) 20:30, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Kudos on turning around the KSM article, it's really looking good. There's much more detail now than it had before it came up for AfD, and everything is sourced. Really, my only suggestion at all would be for the "References" section, to include things like the author, publisher, date of source and date retrieved (see The Jonas Brothers for a comparison). I've found the WP:Referencing section to be helpful, and definitely the WP:Citation templates area too. Thanks for taking the time to write me, and again, excellent work on this article!  Gongshow Talk 18:58, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for the compliments on the article, and the Barnstar as well! I'm really not sure of what possessed me to take it on! I have to "learn" how to do references properly (next on my "to do" list) so I can fix those up. Thanks for the links, that will help a lot. Redoing that article has been a great learning experience. Thanks again for the Barnstar, that was very nice of you!--Logical Fuzz (talk) 22:55, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you seem to be a fan of The National, so if you got time, please have a look at an article I just created: "Fake Empire". Gary King (talk) 23:27, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gary, you're right that I'm a fan. You too? I thought Boxer was outstanding, and I'm looking forward to their new album (in a few months, maybe?). "Fake Empire" was definitely waiting for an article of its own, so I'm happy that (1) you created it, and (2) that you did it really, really well. Content looks solid, from background to release to reception. After reading through it, I just removed the Allmusic ref in the lead (that went to the "Mistaken for Strangers" single), and added a wikilink to Apartment Story in the infobox. No major issues at all. Again, great job, and thanks for letting me know about it.  Gongshow Talk 00:29, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, big fan, although "Fake Empire" is by far my favorite song from The National, more than any of their other work. Also a fan of Radiohead, especially every single song on In Rainbows; I see that you are as well. Radiohead gets enough love on Wikipedia already, though (In Rainbows is a Featured Article), so I'd like to dedicate some time to The National if I can. Also, my work on "Fake Empire" was relatively quick (if you look at my other articles from my user page you'll see that I like to spend more time on articles usually); I'm still trying to find more info on it, although The National in general is not nearly as popular as Radiohead.
I've been eying Boxer (album) for a while, hoping to maybe work on it to bring it to FA standards, as it really needs it. Also, for "Fake Empire" it shouldn't be too hard to find more information for the Reception section so I'm continuing to do that. The article's biggest problem right now are the quotes; I just found those quotes and copied them over, but I'll try my best to paraphrase them so that they aren't just giant chunks of text. Gary King (talk) 00:49, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, definitely not quite as much material out there on the National compared with Radiohead, though I suppose that's to be expected considering Radiohead got off to a head start and has way more acclaim worldwide, and the National really only started to get some love when "Fake Empire" and Boxer came out. Cool that you're a fan of both bands too. Good point about the quotes, I agree that will need to be touched up a bit to take it to the next level. I'll also keep an eye out for any more info on "Fake Empire" that can be used for the article.  Gongshow Talk 01:04, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
