Articles on China at the Chess Olympiads

[edit]

I noticed that you have now created China at the 23rd Chess Olympiad‎ and China at the 24th Chess Olympiad‎. To save yourself unnecessary work, it might be a good idea to avoid creating such articles until the AfD discussions referenced above are concluded. You might also want to participate in those discussions to explain why you think such articles are suitable for the encyclopedia. Deor (talk) 14:32, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think they are suitable because China at the Olympics and from the yearly 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 articles exist. Gollenaiven (talk) 14:56, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

China at the Chess olympiads

[edit]

Hi, I have noticed you have been giving a hard time on the chinese chess olympiads. I realise the tremendous work you have put into these. However, please don't let this discourage you. Personally, I am unsure whether it is a good idea to have these articles or not. Perhaps wikipedia isn't ready for them, as the articles are very detailed and really stand out. What you could do, if you want to work on the Chess Olympiads, is making a start to the many Chess Olympiad general articles we don't have (for instance 23,24 and 25):

In any case; thanks a lot for adding the wikiproject-chess to the talk page. This helps a lot to keep track of the chess articles. If you create new articles, could you also add them to the list of chess topics? This is a really useful page: if you go to that page and click related changes (in the toolbox on the left), you can see all recent edits made to all chess articles. Quite a few people monitor this page for vandalism etc.. Happy editing! Voorlandt (talk) 22:48, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see I said to the person above the China at the Olympics are represented for each year, so I don't understand why the Chess olympiads should not? Gollenaiven (talk) 22:54, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the main objection is that the specific articles such as China at the 37th Chess Olympiad are random and are better incorporated into 37th Chess Olympiad. Imagine having such an article for every country, for every chess Olympiad. The number of these articles would be larger than the total amount of chess articles we have now. I think the article China at the Chess Olympiads is fine and informative for someone who is into statistics (and I have defended it on the AFD page). I can envisage having such an article for all important chess nations. However an article for China for every edition is quite something different. The comparison with China at the 1984 Summer Olympics is not really relevant, since that article represents many sports. Voorlandt (talk) 23:56, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But in that case, China at the Olympics and all the other nations also outnumber Olympics articles. It would only grow by one every two years. If someone doesn't want to read them then they don't have to read them - it doesn't take up their "space" or attention. Also the Chess Olympiad counts as a different event from the Olympics. There are many other sports results pages like tennis, NFL, football etc. that take up much more space. Gollenaiven (talk) 00:06, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ray Robson

[edit]

Thank you for your changes to the Ray Robson article. I suspect that user ChezMate has a conflict of interest with that article, and an administrator agrees that it is suspicious. So please keep the article on your watchlist. Bubba73 (talk), 19:51, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. What did CzekMate do to be of concern? Gollenaiven (talk) 20:02, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Check the edit history, the editor was always reverting changes back to the way he wanted it, as if he owned the article. Also, ChezMate edits only that article. Bubba73 (talk), 20:21, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
