Hello from the archive!
[edit]Hey great to meet you at Internet Archive just now! The bug I was thinking about in the wikitext editor today was fixed back in April last year phab:T191230 but it was present for quite a few months.
Have you tried editing on mobile recently and seen the same bug as described in that ticket? If so let me know the device you are using and an example article where the bug occurs and I'll make sure we get that fixed! Jdlrobson (talk) 00:07, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
Gnuish (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
Caught by a web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. My IP address is 108.168.227.220. I have logged in using my usual Wikipedia editor's account which has never been blocked for any reason. The only apparent reason I have been blocked tonight is that I'm sitting on a Greyhound bus using the Greyhound-provided WiFi internet connection. This does not seem to be a good reason to block an existing editor in good repute from making ordinary edits. The block log seemed to say that this IP address range is or was at some point a "Web host" but at least tonight it's just ordinary Internet access from a public Greyhound bus in transit. Even if it was currently a web host, I don't see why that would be a problem; I host a website on my home machine and why would anyone want to prevent me from editing Wikipedia from the same machine? Web browsing and web hosting use different TCP port numbers, so there is no technical issue preventing browsing to Wikipedia from a machine that has a web host on it. And if the block somehow relates to Wikipedia's hatred of anonymity, surely that can't be an issue for a long-term editor who has already logged in and is therefore not anonymous. Why is this address block explicitly blocking logged-in and valid users? The blocking policy says not to do that except in extreme cases, but User:BU_Rob13 (whose talk page now says he's mostly retired from Wikipedia) did it anyway and for a two-year period! See: 13:00, 4 June 2018 BU Rob13 talk contribs blocked 108.168.128.0/17 talk with an expiration time of 2 years (account creation blocked) ({{webhostblock}})
Accept reason:
Hmm... it's definitely a webhost. It's possible it's just that greyhound or whoever is providing internet access to them is routing traffic through a proxy for some silly reason. Since you've clearly had positive contributions in the past, I'll just add a temporary IP block exception for you for now. If you keep encountering problems later, we can re-examine more closely. --slakr\ talk / 08:11, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Frank Zappa
[edit]The question started as: Does Frank Zappa belong in category "American anti-fascists"? Gnuish (talk) 09:29, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Please show evidence of him actively opposing fascists or Nazis as a movement or writing anti-fascist material. Using the word "fascist" once as a pejorative isn't good enough. The category "American anti-fascists" is already been overused. LittleJerry (talk) 01:04, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- The Bushranger: what do you think? LittleJerry (talk) 01:06, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- After three reverts by LittleJerry (talk), he started this discussion on my talk page, and I started one on his. It turns out he's been deleting this category from a bunch of articles. This note is to cross-reference to the discussion on his talk page. Gnuish (talk) 09:29, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- You should probably check out Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 December 15#Category:American anti-communists. That category was deleted and reinstated because people overused the category for articles that barely mentioned communism and so needed a fresh new start. Now, the burden is on you to add information on Zappa actively opposing fascism/nazism. LittleJerry (talk) 13:21, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- Life has gotten a little busy and I don't have too much time to dig in, but: do reliable sources describe him as such? - The Bushranger One ping only 23:05, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Genevieve Grotjan
[edit]Why did you remove the external link to the UB article on Genevieve: https://www.buffalo.edu/atbuffalo/article-page-spring-2018.host.html/content/shared/www/atbuffalo/articles/Spring-2018/features/an-american-hero.detail.html University at Buffalo It seems useful and informative to me. BuffaloBob (talk) 15:06, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for keeping a keen eye on Buffalonians! I did it because before my edit, it was already cited three separate times in the body of the article. When I merged those, it left a better-described link to the At Buffalo article (with better metadata, e.g. the author, date, etc) in the References section just below where I deleted the fourth copy of it. I do think it is the best available short biography of Genevieve, which is why it's now cited six times in the body of the article. --Gnuish (talk) 19:27, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
