Featured article candidate
[edit]Hi. I would recommend that you withdraw the nomination.
I appreciate your effort and your interest in turning this into a featured article, but it isn't ready yet, and the process of getting it ready would probably take you a few more months of work. If you're willing to continue monitoring the reviews and improving the article, then by all means, you should proceed. But your article isn't ready yet.
For starters, it's normal to get your article through the Good Article process first. A Good article nominee needs to meet these criteria and go through a review process. Because the process is badly backlogged, it can take weeks, even months, for a volunteer to start your review. Once they do, they're almost always going to request changes. Once it's promoted, it will probably require additional work to meet the featured article criteria. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:39, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Some areas where the article would need improvement
- The lead section is too short. It needs to summarize all the major points made in the article, but the current version says nothing about the history, goals and beliefs, spiritual or environmental activism. If you dedicate substantial copy to it in the article, it should be in the lead.
- Your section headers should not be capitalized, so "Current activism" not "Current Activism"
- You need better sources. You're relying heavily on their own website - that isn't an independent source.
- Your references aren't formatted properly. That matters when you're talking about Good and Featured articles
- You have unreferenced statements. References should appear immediately after the statements they support. There should be a minimum of one reference per paragraph, and there shouldn’t be any text after the last reference in a paragraph.
- The article is heavily focussed on the present. You need to make sure that you're giving a balanced overview of the last 27 years. Don't skew things too heavily to the present. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:49, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
@Ian (Wiki Ed): I've offered on the FA nomination page to work with these students and to promptly review the article at WP:GAN, if they choose to nominate it there. Articles can sit in that queue for a long time and I didn't want them to feel discouraged/left hanging if the nomination sat there for weeks without feedback. I'm generally familiar with the topic area and have reviewed and written GAs and FAs in the past. @Kennedy.aok: @Jmgregory13: I've only skimmed the article so far, but I largely agree with Ian's feedback above. I think those are some of the issues that will need to be addressed to get the article to GA standards. Some of those points are easy fixes (like the capitalization issue), but others (like sourcing) are bigger concerns to tackle. If you nominate the article there I will give it a thorough read and give more specific feedback. —BLZ · talk 21:19, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Indigenous Environmental Network
[edit]Hello, Gmhardesty – I just saw your request for a copy-edit of Indigenous Environmental Network at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. I noticed that you copied the instructions for listing a request and did not replace the instructions with your comment. It's all right – someone will accept the assignment and copy-edit the article when it moves up the queue – but normally editors substitute a comment for the instructions. You can write anything you want, and it can be short. Look at some of the other requests for ideas. If you are planning to nominate the article for Good Article status (use "GA" or "GAN") or Featured Article status (use "FAC" for "Featured article candidate") after the copy-edit is completed, you can mention that. Best regards, – Corinne (talk) 03:43, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
