Speedy deletion nomination of User:GloCoHistory
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:GloCoHistory, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. [edit]If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 18:22, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
[edit]Hi, thanks for email. Please read the following carefully.
- Your user name violated our username policy since it indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group. Since it was also used for promotion, the account was indefinitely blocked.
- User pages are for you to write about your activities on Wikipedia, and are not for promotion.
Even if had been posted as an article, it would have been deleted because
- it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the organisation claims or interviewing him its management. You gave no references of any kind. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
- The notability guidelines for organisations and companies have been updated. The primary criteria has five components that must be evaluated separately and independently to determine if it is met:
- significant coverage in
- independent,
- multiple,
- reliable,
- secondary sources.
- Note that an individual source must meet all four criteria to be counted towards notability. It's not clear to me how a small local museum would be able to meet those criteria, but without independent third sources it's impossible to tell.
- it was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Your whole article is a promo, including prices, opening times and invitations to donate. Other examples of unsourced or self-sourced claims presented as fact include: your donations and membership are welcome... Please join our membership plans
- there shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections. That's particularly the case when they are spamlinks to your own or affiliated sites.
- the article was a copyright violation. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. The copied site was marked © 2016 GCHS All Rights Reserved. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial but there is no indication that the copied site allows free use. Text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient. But in any case the copyrighted text is far too promotional to be useful for Wikipedia's purposes, so there would not be any point in your jumping through all the hoops that are required.
- You have an obvious conflict of interest and you must declare it. Thank you for declaring your interest in your email. Since you work directly or indirectly for the organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly. Regardless, since you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:GloCoHistory. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form:
{{paid|user=GloCoHistory|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If you are being compensated, please provide the required disclosure. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. Concealing a COI can lead to a block. Please do not edit further until you respond to this message.
We often restore deleted text on request, but for legal reasons we don't do so for copyright violations.
Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. You must also reply to the COI request above.
If you wish to continue editing here, you will have to follow the unblock-spamun instructions with a suitable policy-compliant user name. It is a condition of the unblock that you don't edit on the topic that got you blocked in the first place, which may not be what you want.
If you want to reply, you can leave a message on this page, and I will know you have done so if you start it with my user name, User:Jimfbleak and sign it with four tildes ~~~~ when you post it (in the same edit). That will send me an alert.

Request reason:
We are a non-profit volunteer-run historical society whose mission is to collect, preserve, and share the history of Gloucester County, NJ. By adding historic buildings to Wiki and expanding existing entries on people/places, we do not make any money and do not understand how it is considered "self-promotion." We hope that Wikipedia can allow us access to expand articles, add articles. and correct misinformation. Gloucester County Historical Society is the repository of primary sources.GloCoHistory (talk) 18:20, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Curious as to why you've waited 5 years to request unblock. You haven't proposed a new username as instructed. One of your edits was to add a link to your website, that is promotional. Please read WP:COI and WP:PAID and tell us what will be different about your editing. 331dot (talk) 22:28, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
All of the above is now understood, I appreciate your patients and time very much. Ryan
