Speedy deletion nomination of Wooloo

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wooloo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. — Timneu22 · talk 14:07, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Sixten Kai Nielsen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. Speedy deletion nomination of Wooloo

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wooloo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Hi GiorgiaD. In case the article at Wooloo is deleted and you need to refer to this information, I'm copying my response from the article talk page:

To avoid the copyviolation problem, the copyright owner would have to license the content under a Creative Commons license - details of how to do that are given on this page (and just let me know if you have trouble following them). For what it's worth, simply licensing a press release wouldn't be enough to remove all problems with the article, though. Press releases (as self-published primary sources) should only be used to reference some simple facts about an organization. To have a long-term future in the encyclopedia this article would need to demonstrate the organization's notability by citing substantial coverage in multiple reliable sources. Relying on press releases could see the article deleted for being promotional. Gonzonoir (talk) 13:32, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there - in case you didn't get a chance to read my reply before the page was deleted, thought I'd bring you some advice over here.
  • Removing all the content copied straight out of the press release would have avoided the copyright violation problem, yes (it's OK to cite copyright sources, just not to take chunks of content from them (even with attribution).)
  • The longer-term survival of an article depends on its demonstrating the subject's notability. "Notability" is the standard we apply to decide whether articles should be included in the encyclopedia. Notability is demonstrated by referencing third-party reliable sources - newspapers, books, and so on - that have already substantially covered the subject.
  • You might find it useful in future to work on articles in your userspace before moving them over to the main article space. Userspace still doesn't permit copyright infringement or straightforward promotional material, but you would have as long as you need to put together a draft with sources showing a subject's notability. You may find it useful to use the article wizard to work on a new article. Gonzonoir (talk) 14:06, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
