[edit]Hello, GillKathryn, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.
I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. Notes
[edit]Hi, I have the following notes:
- Be extremely, extremely careful of subjective statements. By this I mean things that could be dependent on the viewpoint of the individual who is reading the page. So for example, saying that someone is well known is subjective because while one person may see someone as well known, another person may see them as more obscure since they've never head of them. If you're pulling from a source, it's important to attribute the claim to the person making it.
- You also want to be careful of vague and general statements. For example, the following statement is kind of general and vague.
- Donna Barr is a comics artist who has made numerous contributions to the queer community and to queer comics.
- What makes this vague is that it doesn't really say what those contributions are. She's made contributions, but what are they? Also, we could say that anyone who has created a queer comic has made this same accomplishment. What's important here is to highlight the specific thing(s) that are seen as her accomplishments, like a specific comic.
- There are a lot of unsourced claims in the article - it's important that all claims have a reliable source that backs up the claims made, otherwise the claims can be challenged and removed. This also needs more sourcing in general, especially secondary and independent sourcing.
- Some of the sentences in the life and education section are a little choppy, so they need to be edited for flow.
I hope this helps! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 09:56, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
