Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Gigglemon, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with Wiki Education; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

ENG 465 Check-In

[edit]

Hi Alexandra,

This is Sam, the TA from ENG 465! Prof. Hanley asked me to help get in touch with everyone this weekend to make sure the Wiki assignments are moving along smoothly.

I know you finished a bunch of the training modules already, which is great! But it looks like you still have to choose the article you want to edit for this Wiki assignment. Nothing to stress over, you can definitely catch up in no time at all! I went through all of the training up to the part where I chose an article yesterday, all in one day.

If there's anything I can do to help you with this assignment, feel free to reply to me here and we'll see what we can do! I have email notifications on, so I'll get an email if you do reply here. Or you could message me on Zoom during class if you'd like. Totally up to you! But I'd be happy to work with you via email, a Zoom meeting, or just chatting here on your Talk Page, if you think any of that would be helpful :) --Sjnickerson (talk) 01:32, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sam,
Thank you for reaching out. I'm really stuck on choosing an article. I'm not so great at choosing topics with actual reliable sources thus I'm doubtful the topics I am looking into would be a good fit. I was originally thinking maybe something related to star wars since it is technically based in a post apocalyptical timeline of the destruction of earth, and also they talk about Tatooine and the destruction of its once flourishing environment. But again I'm not so sure I would be qualified to edit and of those pages. So at this point I'm stuck but I have been looking through articles on wiki just not exactly finding one I'm familiar with enough to be able to properly edit it. Hi Alexandra,
I'm so sorry I didn't see this before, I ended up getting a ton of notifications because I would get them anytime somebody would make any type of edit to their Talk Pages, even if they weren't messages to me. I'm sorry I missed yours!
With the project deadline coming up soon, there would be a lot of work to catch up on, if that's still your intention. Given the situation, I'm sure Prof. H would be understanding- but at the same time, the end of the semester is coming up soon too. Since the peer reviews have already come and gone, if you wanted to work quickly on picking a topic and drafting your article, I could do the peer review for you myself, and you could then make the edits based on my feedback, so that is a possibility. Just let me know what you're thinking.
I also think the issue with editing Star Wars articles on Wikipedia is that it's a massively popular franchise, so a lot of the articles are already very well-developed by Wikipedia editors who have already spent a lot of time and effort on them, so the opportunities to improve them are limited... but there are a lot Star Wars books out there with less developed Wikipedia articles, if you're familiar with any of them. For example, this article on a series of Star Wars books published between 2009-2012 could definitely use expansion, and the last book is actually Apocalypse.
Again, let me know if you still want to try to close the gap and catch up at this point in the semester! I'll do my best to help out either way. --Sjnickerson (talk) 21:57, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
