I wasn't the one who wrote: "Discrete power MOSFETs are currently the most widely used low voltage switch." but I suspect for low enough voltage it is right. With bipolar, you don't get below about 0.3V for Vce, which could be large for a low voltage switch. MOSFETs are also used as rectifiers for low voltages.
