Hi any idea if this is notable enough for football biographies? It appears he played 247 games for a second league which in my experience would seem to fit notability for other footballers on wikipedia. There are a number of google matches. Could you see if it can be expanded and referenced, unless of course its not notable as the nominator claims? Cheers Dr. Blofeld White cat 08:51, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hi! He is definitely not notable as a player, but I believe that he meets the criteria if he was CEO and assistant coach of Skeid when they played in the Premier League in 1996. The article is horribly written, but I'll see if I can find sources. Punkmorten (talk) 09:05, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I vaguely remember starting it to fill out a red link on the main article as he was chairman at the time. I also got the impression he was more notable in management. Don't speak Norwegian so I can't write anything good about it ! Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:47, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Replacing DEFAULTSORT with template:Lifetime
[edit]The template documentation states that DEFAULTSORT is not to be replaced with this template. __meco (talk) 15:23, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Today, again, I find myself having to undo your replacing DEFAULTSORT with this template in this edit. Please, if you disagree with the template documentation and apparent consensus plead your case on the template talk page and don't simply continue to edit contrary to consensus and template documentation. __meco (talk) 17:45, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- What consensus? The sentence you referred to last time, did not represent a consensus; someone just added it. Punkmorten (talk) 17:46, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- I have taken measure to have this confusion sorted out. __meco (talk) 18:07, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for expanding articles
[edit]Thank you for expanding the articles Francis Bull, Axel Otto Normann, Verdens Gang (1868-1923 newspaper), Ola Thommessen and others!
To comment on the edit summary, (look at the page Norsk biografisk leksikon to find year and volume), I normally do not add volume/year for books and encyclopedias, unless I have access to the actual paper volumes. The reason, in this case, is that the online edition is edited after the encyclopedia was printed. Which means that entire new biographies may be added (not present in the printed volumes), and old biographies may have been updated. For instance, the biography on Edvard Beyer (volume 1, 1999) probably does not include his death year (2003), place of death, etc. The online version has no indication on when it was last updated, and it is impossible to know whether other information also has been changed. Oceanh (talk) 21:39, 15 April 2009 (UTC).
- It has been stated by Kunnskapsforlaget that NBL would not be updated online, only SNL.[1] Good point about Beyer, though. I think I've come across recently updated (with date) NBL articles as well. Punkmorten (talk) 22:09, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

And some Danish stuff too. If I need to convince you, I just wrote an excellent rationale at User talk:Bermicourt#Proper nouns and station names (in short: railway stations are proper nouns and proper nouns should be capitalized.
I find most of Wikipedia too bureaucratic (for my ease of relaxation, although it is probably for the best of the project), so I hope I can just leave it in your hands without having to defend it through a week-long process. Arsenikk (talk) 13:57, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Regular member?
[edit]Hi Morten. I am populating Category:Members of the Storting and Category:Deputy members of the Storting. The last category says that it should contain those who have been deputy representatives (vara) but never regular representatives. My initial thought is that anyone that is not directly elected is a deputy, even if they meet an whole period. Some biographies, like Silja Ekeland Bjørkly, contradict this saying that the representative was a regular member. Your thoughts? Rettetast (talk) 15:42, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- The Norwegian wording for deputies who meet due to permanent absence (i.e. for people who become ministers - this excludes meeting for someone who is sick one day or abroad) is "møtte fast" - which implies regularity. Being a regular representative follows from this, agree? When someone dies, the term "rykket opp" is used - in my opinion the person who ascends, then, is also a regular representative. Currently each and all biographies follow this terminology unless someone changed it after I passed through. Punkmorten (talk) 15:58, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I understand, but I see some problems. There should be a definite criteria, and this may be open for interpretation. What is a permanent absence. What if we have a new cabinet that only last for a couple of weeks? What does stortinget.no do? Rettetast (talk) 16:37, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- I said that they use the term "møtte fast". Punkmorten (talk) 16:38, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Fredrikshald Bay
[edit]Hello Punkmorten. After adding an infobox on the Fredrikshald Bay article, I tried to find some historical info about it, especially regarding its name. I thought there may be a connection to the Arctic explorer Roald Amundsen, but I can't find English language sources to support this. I know you have access to resources in Norwegian language, so if in your travels you come across something that explains the bay's name, please let me know (or add to the article yourself). I also left a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Norway#Fredrikshald Bay but I thought I'd drop you a line, too. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:21, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Fredrikshald (or Frederikshald, the Danish spelling) is an old name of the city Halden. Perhaps this is valuable info? I'll see if I come across some references, though. Punkmorten (talk) 20:52, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

IAAF profile links
[edit]Regarding this edit: I normally leave IAAF biographies as external links as well as referencing them. This is because I feel those links need greater prominence as they not only provide the most up to date times/competition records, but also give extra information on season by season bests and performances in lesser competed events. I usually leave this information out for reasons of brevity and conciseness.
I know that WP generally suggests that there should be no crossover between reference links and external links. However, (in most cases/articles) a variety of sources will pretty much cover the same info. This is not the case with most athlete profiles as the IAAF is the international authority; most other sources tend to be an unreliable copy of the information presented there. Do you agree that it's worth restoring as an external link? Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits) 20:07, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Nah, I see your point, but I think about the precedence it would set. In two ways: more double-inclusion of links across articles, as well as people who are tempted to create entries that are just pointers to IAAF. The profiles are not that complete anyway. Punkmorten (talk) 20:36, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hmmmm, maybe. I don't think we'd ever get people creating articles which act as souped-up IAAF redirects. Outside of Olympics articles, athletics is pretty poorly covered. There are plenty of major tournament medallists and national record holders without articles, there's even quite a few World record holders who remain as redlinks. Either way, I'm not overly fussed about it anyway. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits) 22:41, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- There were some here, but of course that's a long time ago. Punkmorten (talk) 20:23, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- I see, very informative... I guess you can see that I'm not in the business of sentence long stubs though! What do you make of the athletics proposals? Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits)Calling All Athletics Fans! 22:15, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Do you mean the renaming proposal? I support "athletics", mainly because of own tradition, but it's true that not all events are track or field. In Norway, for instance, race walking became a fully integrated part of the athletics association this year. I signed up for the proto-project, but can't promise to commit myself to do more than presently. Punkmorten (talk) 22:24, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- The project is still in development so no worries there, besides, it's being done to respond to the need to centralise and organise the athletics articles. Discussions on conventions and article layouts could be of great help and I believe there are a number of editors working extensively on the athletics articles anyway.

- I believe non-American editors have been over-cautious about the "track and field athletics" article for too long. The USA Track and Field organisation is, as far as I can see, the only organisation which integrates track and field, marathon and road running etc, under the sole organisational banner of their official name, "Track and Field". Literally pretty much every other world organisation uses "Athletics". It looks like we're thinking along the same lines here so I'll push the issue on the talk page and Olympics wikiproject shortly. I'm not expecting a flurry of editing stemming from the Athletics WikiProject, but rather a gradual improvement of the stubby articles on major athletics organisations and events. re: Hey
[edit]Hi Morten,
You're right to assume that I won't stay for long. I just had to intercept Heiberg, it looked like the article was going to fall off the nom list, and we can't have that, can we? Not after such a fine run of tons of Norwegian DYKs (I checked the DYK archives, and I'm very impressed, both thumbs up). I've got one more Heiberg edit to do, and then I'll be gone again, at least for a few weeks. There's just too much to do in RL, but before I vanish again I need to rewrite the Heiberg-meets-Stang bit. After all, Heiberg did tell Stang he loved him. :) Manxruler (talk) 21:46, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- I've done my bit with regards to Heiberg for now, so I'll disappear again. However, when I'm back in 2-3 weeks I'd like to collaborate with you on writing an article on Georg Stang, it's incredibly odd that we don't already have that. I've got quite a few books that mention Stang, and you've got access to a lot of nice sources which I do not, so I believe that together we could write a very nice piece on him. Cheers. Manxruler (talk) 22:09, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Norwegian footballers
[edit]Hi Morten. I was wondering if you elaborate on whether Bryne FK is an amateur or professional club and indeed whether players for this club are notable or not. I have some AFDs my way by your good friend Rettetast and I had no idea that apparently these are not professional players. A lot of players in this league do seme to have claim to notability, could you comment at the afd and to explain how we go about making the distinction, as some players may have had international experience played for professional clubs previously in this league. Whatever you decide to delete or keep I will respect the decision but it would seme unusual to delete certain biographies and keep others within the same league. I have stated delete for Bjørn Ingvar Kydland but6 have raised concerns about defining notability at Ronny Espedal. I don't mind if we keep them or not, I just it to be made clear which should be deleted and which should be kept.
Thanks Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the second tier is not fully professional, they have some sort of pro contracts but a great deal have day jobs, some even full-time (37,5 hour week). Some of the top teams may have full-time footballers, but the lesser teams don't. I don't follow you on the international experience? Punkmorten (talk) 17:40, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hokay thanks for clearing that up. By international appearances I mean playing for Norway under 19s etc etc. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:21, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Did you know Medal
[edit]The DYK Medal | ||
Every time I look at the front page, I find one of your DYKs. For contributing 300 articles featured in the DYK, many of them WP:Norway related, here is an incredibly well earned DYK Medal. Each Did You Know requires a major effort in creating a new article or developing an existing article. And you do this while serving as an Admin and doing all the miscellaneous crap that entails. You are an inspiration. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 04:13, 23 June 2009 (UTC) |
Martin Henriksen
[edit]Wow that is absolutely astonishing. 300 DYKs! Well done! Hey I was looking on flickr for an image of Tajikistan and came across this rather striking ginger bloke Martin Henriksen. A Ron Weasley look alike? Can you expand it a little, sources are in Norwegian, regards Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:18, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- I can look, but he's young and has had a short career. Geschichte (talk) 19:29, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Diacritics
[edit]Thanks, could you possibly add the diacritics to the names of the nine captured miners as well? Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 01:56, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Hello! Would you be interested in filling out the English stub with the wealth of info found on the Bokmål wiki? While I haven't quite gotten to this publication in Sámi media, it would be nice to have the info on the English wiki before I do or someone else does. Thanks for any help you can provide! -Yupik (talk) 07:15, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately we can't use the text at no:wiki, because it is completely unsourced. Punkmorten (talk) 10:03, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- Crud. Is it possible to ask the person that wrote the text to provide some sources for it? That of course being that they are still around on the wiki... If nothing can be done about it, I'll try to write some sourced info for it in the English wiki as soon as they're done moving the university libraries around here :D -Yupik (talk) 19:37, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- BTW, there seems to be quite a bit about its history on their own website. -Yupik (talk) 20:02, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Farewell User:Punkmorten
[edit]A historic change. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 15:42, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- Skål for Punkmorten. Rettetast (talk) 16:03, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- I reviewed one of your DYKs and was momentarily concerned to find Punkmorten was stealing Geschichte's work without offering him a credit. :D --candle•wicke 23:10, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
