Information icon Hello, I'm Fyrael. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Eamonn Magee, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. -- Fyrael (talk) 16:36, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fyrael. I am Brian Kerrigan, CEO of Triskal Films in NYC. One of our editors (Gerry Rosens) is in the process of editing Eamonn's Wikipedia page in order to update it and add relevant material.
Triskal Films acquired the life rights to develop a feature film/docuseries on Eamonn's life. Could you please advise me as to how we may continue our edits as we have not done this before.
Thank you. Gerryrosens (talk) 17:15, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, and thanks for providing that explanation. One thing that I'd advise before deciding if you even want to continue editing that page is to check out Wikipedia:Conflict of interest since you have a financial link to the article's subject, though I would say your case may be something of a gray area. As far as the content itself, there are two primary issues. First is that Gerry's edit removed wikilinks and, more importantly, citations that were already included. I'm guessing they did something like copy the visible text, added the new content, and then pasted the result over the source code on the edit screen. That approach is not going to work because it removes the extra parts of the code that aren't visible text. You need click into the Edit screen and then add your content directly to what's there. Of course another editor could come in after you and fix things up if necessary, so that's the more minor issue. The bigger issue is that no source was provided for the new information. If you read through the Wikipedia:Reliable sources policy I linked above, you'll see that Wikipedia requires any information to be cited to a reliable, published source. This is doubly important on articles about living persons, as misinformation there could open up Wikipedia to legal liability. So you'll need to add citations, and definitely check out Help:Referencing for beginners for the basics of how to do that. If your information is not coming from already published sources and instead from interviews you conducted yourselves or similar, that's going to be a problem and it probably cannot be included because we need to follow Wikipedia:Verifiability. We cannot simply take your word for it. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me, or head to the Wikipedia:Teahouse, which is a space specifically for new editors to ask questions. -- Fyrael (talk) 20:32, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply Fyrael.
I'm not sure I understand the editing process and pre-existing/invisible code you reference i.e "the extra parts of the code that aren't visible text." We (Triskal Films) are working directly with the subject (Eamonn Magee) to develop a feature length movie of his life. The content that is already on the Wiki page does not accurately reflect, or at minimum omits, many of the most important details that we want to feature on his Wiki page.
Almost all the content both Eamonn and Triskal are adding comes from his authorized biography "The Lost Soul of Eamonn Magee". I would like to cite it as my source and also reconstruct and correctly write his bio on the page. We are partnering with an American production company who have advised this as a necessary move to accurately reflect and fully the facts of Eamonn's life.
Hopefully this helps clear up your questions. Could you please advise how I may reference the book and correct rewrite the existing content Fyrael?
Thank you.

Rather than rewriting you should really just add the information that you believe is missing and cite the biography. Have you read the Help:Referencing for beginners page yet? It's a pretty straight-forward process of entering the information about the book. -- Fyrael (talk) 06:20, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help Fyrael, we're working on it today. Hopefully it's straightforward enough but if we encounter any hiccups I'll drop you a note. Appreciate your help.
Thanks,

Fyrael,
We cannot (or don't know how to) cite his biography. On Eamonn's page currently (without any additions from us) a number of errors and omissions are present and this is potentially a problem for whomever wrote it in the first place. We must correct these as soon as possible. It's likely we will need assistance from Wiki for this. Can you speak on the phone to guide our editor or myself?
Thank you.

I've fixed up your recent addition and from now on if you want to cite the book you can just add <ref name="Gibson"/> at the end of the new sentence. Are you absolutely certain he won the title in 2007 though? According to this record it looks like it may have been in 2005 over Allan Vester? -- Fyrael (talk) 20:51, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can also restore the information you added to the biography section, if you can attest that all the information is found in the 2018 biography and isn't a copy of any of the text, except for the quotations of course. I'll leave out the third paragraph though, as that doesn't seem to have any information about Magee in it.
Also, just to clarify something here, I'm not an employee of Wikimedia. Along with virtually everyone else you'll run into here, I'm just a volunteer editor trying to cooperatively build an encyclopedia. -- Fyrael (talk) 21:21, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Fyrael.
Yes, I understand about your volunteering as opposed to working at Wikimedia. That's why I'm such a fan of this medium. When I was a kid we had 12 volumes of encyclopedia at home and I'd spend hours poring over them being fascinated at the content. Here I am many decades later doing the same only via Wiki and the Internet. So, from me to you, thank you.
Yes, I'd be very grateful if you could restore the information I added before. And yes, I can attest to its being in the biography and that none of it is copied. We are actually mid-edit so more content will be added later today. The third paragraph is actually super important for context particularly for what will be added next so please leave it as is for the moment. It specifically sets up the context of Eamonn's shooting. You'll see what I mean when the rest is submitted.
Again, thanks so much for being on top of this the way you are. One thing actually, can you change the world title to read "...becoming WBU (World Boxing Union) World Welterweight Champion in 2003, a title he held until May 2006". This is how it is covered in the biography. Also, he first won the title in December 2003 and then successfully defended it in March 2005 (v. Vester) i.e you're correct it's not 2007. My editor was going by interviews with Eamonn in which he says '07, and should have gone by the official record - thank you. As I'm so familiar with the story, I will edit my own editor's work to ensure its correct before it's sent to you.
Le meas,

Another thing to help your process: there's a page called a "sandbox" that each user has for experimenting with syntax or whatever else they want. I've copied the contents of the Magee article into your sandbox, so you can tinker with that as you like without it affecting the main page: User:Gerryrosens/sandbox. Also, if you're going to keep making more edits, I'd strongly recommend going through at least some of Help:Introduction. That has great tutorials for people learning how to edit Wikipedia. -- Fyrael (talk) 17:00, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again.
My editor has just updated the page. Could you please check it to make sure all is in order. I read and edited his work and it looked good. He was uncertain how often he needed to cite the official biography.
Is the process of updating Eamonn's Wikipedia page photo straightforward?
Best,
Brian. Gerryrosens (talk) 18:54, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Fyrael,
We've tried to update Eamonn's page a number of times without success. Our partner is one of the biggest movie production companies in North America and unless we can successfully update the page the deal is threatened. This is obviously critical for us and for Eamonn.
Can you help please?
P.s The previous submission is all verified in the official biography "The Lost Soul Of Eamonn Magee"
Thanks very much,
Brian Kerrigan. 2600:4041:5976:1100:8166:D743:54B2:1E3E (talk) 02:42, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
