Dion and the Belmonts

I think I've sorted out the redirect problem, but would be grateful if you can check. I don't know if you share my opinion, but to me the articles on Dion, and D and the Bs, could do with a lot of attention to bring them to an appropriate standard. The extra sentences you added to the images aren't fair-use rationales. You should read Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline to look up fair-use rationales. That page will also tell you that you need the source of the image (i.e, you'll need to provide a link to the website you got the images from, or if you scanned the album cover, you'll need to put that in). Let's get this straight. I did omit mention of it, and have added some text. The upload form says we can put a rationale in the Summary section. There is no question that samples are accepted fair use. Is your point just about formatting the rationale? I'm not the type to recite a list of needless cliches, and a rationale box should not be necessary. This is generally understood. George Slivinsky 07:42, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Of course there's question that samples meet WP:NFC. There's no assertion that the samples are short enough (Wikipedia:Music samples states they should be 10% the length of the song or 30 seconds, whichever is less). Or that the audio quality has been significantly reduced. Or that the use of the music is minimal and that each sample is necessary for the article (which is unlikely, considering there's a list of four files there). Just stating "Standard fair use" does not mean anything and doesn't address any of the points that WP:FURG requires. A rationale is always necessary, for every use of every copyrighted image or audio file. ShadowHalo 17:21, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I'll add more rationale. Appreciate chance to discuss with administrator. In this case each file shows a different version, which is significant. I'd also argue against the 10% guideline (which is not absolute). 12 seconds for a 2 min song? Useless for anyone, and I don't believe copyright owners would object. You want an idea of the melody etc. These things are historically significant. You'll never find a copy of her disco or rock or 1974 versions. Do I have any points? However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. Proposed deletion of Vic Franklyn
