Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Casino New Brunswick, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. PTJoshua (talk) 19:02, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Causeway

[edit]

Hey, thanks for your interest in the Petitcodiac River. I've nominated Petitcodiac River Causeway (New Brunswick) for speedy deletion under A10. The article used to exist but it was suggested during a peer review to merge all applicable information to Petitcodiac River (you can see the old article here). There isn't much to add about the causeway that isn't already said in the article. If you have any additions, try to integrate it. Thanks! EricLeb01 (Page | Talk) 01:25, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Moncton Tourism, Lodging, Parks, Dining & Shopping Areas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. →Στc. 21:55, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

December 2011

Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to List of Heritage and Historic Properties in Moncton, but we cannot accept original research. Original research also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. You've added some churches to this list, but I've looked at a number of them and I see no indication that they have been recognized by any group or level of government as an "heritage" or "historic" building. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 14:10, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Moncton High School (Old), without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. There is as yet no other Moncton High School, and when one is built, it's not clear what it will be named, and whether a disambiguation will be necessary. Right now, this is WP:CRYSTAL. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:05, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Primary and middle school articles

[edit]

I just wanted to touch bases with you regarding recent article creations about middle schools. We don't actually retain articles for primary and middle schools, unless they have established notability separate from mere existence. In essence, this would be done through meeting the general notability guidelines, which require significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources. In accordance with common outcomes of deletion discussions, I have therefore either redirected the articles to that of the city/town or school district. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 21:13, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of famous people from New Brunswick (Canada) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unwieldy list with too large a scope; a category will be able to handle this information much better.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 16:59, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adding "References" sections and other edits

[edit]

Hi there, can you please explain why you're adding "References" sections to articles that already have them? like this edit here.[1] This is creating work for other editors who have to go back and cleanup those articles. Also from other recent edits you made, when adding section titles to articles, don't begin each word with a capital letter, and commercial links shouldn't be added as external links. I have only a checked a few of your edits, and fixed them. It will save others time if you would go back and help cleanup the others. Thank you. Cmr08 (talk) 03:32, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, I see that you've resumed editing your list List of Moncton localities & neighbourhoods, indicating which malls have an A&W, etc. That's great, but if you don't mind a suggestion, take a look at the list of red-linked missing articles at List of National Historic Sites of Canada in New Brunswick. These are national historic sites that are inherently notable. Maybe you'd like to create an article or two on one of these sites in the province? Petitcodiac River

[edit]

Hi there Hogie75, I'm not sure how I helped you make a point about something because I really don't know the story behind all this. All I was doing was saying that you only put articles in categories that they fit it. Do you want to fill me in on what you're talking about? From the message you left me, and the edit summary on Petitcodiac River, you mention about not being allowed to create an article. What article are you not allowed to create? Did you already try and end up being deleted? If that's the case, there must be a better way to state your case than to make a point by putting an article in a category where it doesn't belong. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Crystal Palace Complex (Dieppe) do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Cmr08 (talk) 00:53, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Before you get upset over the Welcome to Wikipedia part, using the level 1 template adds that. I know your not new to Wikipedia, instead of the template, I should have just said that just because a local business doesn't have a Wikipedia article, is no reason to add the external links to appear rather than a red-link. Commercial links are not appropriate in this manner. Please see WP:ELNO, and sorry if the warning offended you, like I said, it's the template that adds the content. Cmr08 (talk) 00:59, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your update to Tantramar Marsh. I see you created WP:REDLINKs. It's true that red links help Wikipedia to grow, but the guidelines do say that links should not be created in cases where it is unlikely that an article will ever be created. A quick Google reveals that there is very little information out there about these topics. That being said, a note on the markup: should the list be like this so that the Tantramar is consistent with the other river names' format. Delineration

[edit]

Hi Hogie75, hoping to learn something new here. I'm not familiar with the term "delineration" added as a section heading at Simonds Parish, Saint John County, New Brunswick. I see it is at other parish articles as well. I looked for a definition at wiktionary.org and dictionary.com but there are no entries. I am familiar with the term "delineation", which would be an applicable alternate term to describe the content within the section. Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 03:40, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pardon the late reply. Busy work week. The link provided makes no reference to the term. I'm going to be bold and correct the spelling among all instances and if someone objects we'll find the answer. Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 05:28, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind. As I swept through them all, it became evident that it was a typo. I did notice numerous articles where the section stated "X Parish is defined in the Territorial Division Act as:" with nothing to follow, if you feel inclined to complete them as you did with Simonds Parish, Saint John County, New Brunswick. Hwy43 (talk) 05:53, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, not all (or even most) towns have their own eponymous Wikipedia categories; a town or city is allowed to have its own dedicated category only if and when Wikipedia actually has enough articles about things in the town (the city or town hall, the sports teams, schools, radio and television stations, parks, streets, etc.) to warrant one. If all we have is one main article about the town itself, which is actually quite common for smaller places which have fewer supplementary things to write about, then the town does not get to have its own category yet. And similarly, a town is also not allowed to have a "People from..." category until we have articles about a reasonable number of people who can be filed in it right off the top — a good rule of thumb is that somewhere between five to ten people who would belong in the category need to already have articles before you even start one. From Steam5 -> Hi Bearcat, I need your help on those New Brunswick categories, A user by the name of User:Hogie75 has made lots of new categories of New Brunswick. These New Brunswick categories are very small and the categories are only one article. Could you talk to User:Hogie75 on possibly creating new categories that are small categories, and on Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations on creating List of people from Edmunston, New Brunswick, he misspelled "Edmundston", and copied from another New Brunswick category that was copied and violated, List of people from Bathurst, New Brunswick. Could you also go to Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations#2013-04-18 (Suspected copyright violations) and talk to User:Hogie75 copyright violating between articles and categories. Also, the categories User:Hogie75 has challenged a contested deletion on all of the small New Brunswick categories for categories that are too small. User:Hogie75 has made the message here. Category talk:Tracadie-Sheila#Contested deletion. If you read my message talk to the User:Hogie75 on contesting deletion on small NB categories and violated and copied another NB article from it's copyright problem. Okay? Thanks for all your help. People from Nova Scotia

[edit]

Please note that a person does not go in Category:People from Nova Scotia if they're already in a county or city specific subcategory, such as Category:People from Inverness County, Nova Scotia or Category:People from Sydney, Nova Scotia. The main "People from Nova Scotia" category is meant to be as close as possible to being empty of individual articles, only directly containing people who cannot be filed in any more specific subcategory due to lack of enough information; if we know what specific city, town or county a person was from, then they go only in the subcategory for that specific town or county and not in the general provincewide category. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 21:22, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

National parks cats

[edit]

Hi Hogie75, could you rename all the national park cats by province and territory to "National parks in X" rather than "National parks of X"? The "of" is possessive, and Canada's provinces and territories do not possess them. Rather, it is Canada that possesses them and they are geographically within or "in" its provinces and territories. Thanks, keep up the good work, and happy holidays to you! Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 00:52, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ok but I didn't start it "National parks of Quebec" was made before I categorized everything else. I will do it, so long as you are sure this is right.01:26, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

  • Interesting dilemma Skookum1, there are territorial parks such as Chan Lake Territorial Park, I am unsure how to proceed. I would say rather than renaming the category for a few places just to include them in as they are already included in the List of Canadian provincial parks page. • I am moving/cleaning up the article for New Brunswick and placing them in with the List of bodies of water of New Brunswick articles for Brunswick. (If you move to the New Brunswick Article section, you will see a way to view all the bodies of water here) It makes more sense in my opinion as this page is in pretty rough shape. I asked people over a week if they had any objections on the Talk Page. No one replied so I began moving the article gradually.16:50, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
  • I am sort of envisioning the page eventually to become more like List of rivers of Canada as the current layout is very confusing, but that would be a huge undertaking right now as the current page is has a lot of redundant information.17:06, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Edith Cavell School

[edit]

Hello Hogie75 - I see that you've resurrected the "article" about Edith Cavell School, which is fine except there's apparently nothing notable about it. If you can establish some form of notability for the school, great, but in the vast majority of cases there's not much notable about an elementary-level school. Moncton

[edit]

You may need to familiarize yourself with what a population centre actually is. It's not the whole metropolitan area of Moncton, but it isn't just the city either — rather, it's the aggregation of the specific set of census blocks emanating from downtown Moncton that meets the statistical definition of an urban area. It can include areas outside of the city boundaries of Moncton, if their urbanized sections are contiguous with urbanized sections of Moncton, and it can exclude areas inside the city boundaries of Moncton that aren't densely populated enough to qualify as "urban". So the population number doesn't have to correspond to either the city or the whole metropolitan area — the only thing it has to do is match whatever number Statistics Canada lists here. Bearcat (talk) 20:15, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. Yeah, I don't deny that it can be a bit confusing — it gets even crazier in Ontario, where places like Ottawa and Sudbury have five or six separate population centres inside a single city, because there are large unpopulated areas between population clusters, and Clarington is split up between one part (Bowmanville-Newcastle) that's its own population centre and another part (Courtice) that's part of Oshawa's population centre instead. But even if we don't understand these things or why they exist, Wikipedia just has to accept that they are what they are anyway... :-) Bearcat (talk) 20:47, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just FYI, I've found a feature on the Statistics Canada website which provides visual clarification of exactly what constitutes the "population centre" of Moncton — on this map, the "population centre" is the white area with a burgundy boundary around it, while the orange lines are the municipal boundaries — and then the McEwen area forms its own separate "small population centre" for some statistically relevant reason or other. Hopefully that'll help you out a bit, since I'm sure my explanation above was kind of (or a lot) confusing. Bearcat (talk) 18:20, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Coastal forts in BC category

[edit]

Hi, I just moved Yorke Island coastal fort to Yorke Island (Canada) and note on it and Barrett Point there are many other World War II fortifications listed. The "Forts in British Columbia" category is really for places with "Fort" as part of the name, fur trade or military or otherwise. I'm thinking Category:Fortifications in British Columbia or Category:World War II fortifications in British Columbia, with corresponding parallel categories for WWI, the Cold War, Spanish American War, and the colonial/early provincial period might be called for - especially given the number of places that especially were in service during World War II.....this was not "Fort Yorke Island", for example; for now I'm moved the category to the Yorke Island coastal fort redirect.Skookum1 (talk) 05:45, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Highfield Square (Moncton) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

List of local service districts in New Brunswick page

[edit]

Hi Hogie.

I'll be posting a major upgrade to this page as soon as I've pared down my data to something readable by normal users; the raw-form table runs to something like eighty pages in Word. This includes date of creation, boundary changes, location in Regulation 84-168, and other information, as well as previous LSDs and the three classes of false LSDs. The table format I've in mind isn't compatible with what you've started doing, though. I've spent a couple years on this, and apparently I know a lot more than the person who answered my e-mail asking for details like whether there's an official term for areas with special services.

Thanks for the editing on my main page for local service districts; your work on the table will save me a lot of time when I finish adding information for other sections of the page.

Durham Parish

[edit]

Is there actually any good reason why every individual named hamlet inside a parish has to have its own separate article independent of the one on the parish itself? Especially when that article isn't actually sourced at all? Bearcat (talk) 20:59, 8 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • No there isn't that I see, however there is no good reason to remove it either that I see. I am not suggesting making new ones, but for the people who already put the time and effort to making them, why remove them and redirect them if they are created. I don't see anything in the article sourced relating to size of towns that makes it either notable or not.Hogie75 01:10, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Indeed, the notability or non-notability of a populated community is not a question of size — it is, however, a question of how much sourcing can or cannot actually be cited to support a separate article. The consensus for unincorporated communities in Canada, as documented at WP:CANSTYLE#Article or redirect?, is that they have to be redirected to their parent municipality if there isn't actually enough sourcing present for them to stand alone as independent topics. Bearcat (talk) 21:01, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

New Brunswick Route 148

[edit]

Hi Hogie75 -- I'm looking for info on New Brunswick Route 148 for an Internet project I'm working on. Google Maps, until recently, showed Route 148 as following the bypassed section of Route 8. That's gone now, with markings only north of Killarney Rd. OpenStreetMap, OTOH, shows Route 148 going down Killarney Rd and St Marys St, to meet up with Route 105 at Maple St. The only other info I've been able to find is your Wikipedia article. Did you write the route description based on the routing as shown in OSM or some other source? Or have you verified it yourself by checking out the signage in the field? Curious to know, as I'd like some definitive sources for my info. Many thanks! —Yakra (talk · contribs) 15:58, 11 October 2014 (EDT)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of New Moncton High School, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/moncton-high-school-construction-tender-awarded-1.1357832.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

  • Hi, and thanks for creating this article, as well as responding to the above copyright bot notice. There are still large chunks of text directly copied from the source web site though. These would need to be reworded in your own words to avoid copyright issues. You can see a list of the items at issue Here. Obviously things like the name of the school, and small phrases like "is being constructed" are fine, but the first 4-5 items will definitely need to be re-done, or they risk being removed from the article. Editing of New Brunswick Names

[edit]

Hi Hogie.

I know you do a lot of work on New Brunswick places, but I've noticed some errors creeping in lately, ones apparently based on unofficial sources.

The proper sources for spellings and names of New Brunswick LSDs and municipalities are the appropriate Regulations under the Municipalities Act. Other sites, even those of the communities themselves, may differ, but these are not the official spellings. Translations can be very misleading, as well.

Also, should every occurrence of a reference to another page be formatted as a link? I haven't seen this on other pages, and it does seem a lot of work for a redundant purpose.

Anyway, thanks for all the work you do, but please be careful in the sources you trust.

Shippegan Parish, New Brunswick listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Shippegan Parish, New Brunswick. Since you had some involvement with the Shippegan Parish, New Brunswick redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Coordinate translation from dms to decimal degrees

[edit]

I found 2 article edits of yours that did not properly convert the coordinates from dms to decimal degrees. Canterbury, New Brunswick and Cambridge-Narrows both of which I fixed. I stopped checking after finding 2 since it did not appear to be a one off. --Bamyers99 (talk) 18:26, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Sunny Brae North, New Brunswick has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This place is a tiny part of a small city, and there is really nothing here to warrant an article. Also, it is questionable whether this neighborhood even exists.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. A tag has been placed on Category:Lists of beaches in England requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
