[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Request reason:

I'm not a sellout and I will never be. I was never paid to edit this wiki and I never will be paid. I am not advertising anything. Gelatin's Steakhouse is a purely fictional place, so I can't sell anything, so I think this unblock was a misunderstanding. I would like to be unblocked please with a different username. Thank you for understanding and thank you again if you unblock me. Gelatin's Steakhouse (talk) 17:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

User was renamed and they seem responsive to other concerns. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:42, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I found an error in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diary_of_a_Wimpy_Kid:_No_Brainer
The link "Hot Mess" in the infobox links to the Wikipedia page Hot Mess which is completely unrelated to the Wimpy Kid franchise. Also you should make a page on the upcoming Wimpy Kid book, but it's okay if you wait until it releases.
Also here is the source that Hot Mess is real https://wimpykid.com/books/hot-mess/
I hope I can get unblocked so I can fix more errors like this and improve pages. Also I think I'm ready to rejoin Wikipedia and I won't edit on pages relating to steakhouses anymore if you want me to.

Will you admins respond?
Gelatin∞ (talk) 10:17, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not an admin, but I think that your unblock request has merit. But what I really wanted to advise you against was using Google Maps as a source, as you did in this edit. There is no consensus on its reliability, so best to avoid it altogether. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 20:07, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. I won't use Google Maps as a source in the future. Gelatin's Steakhouse (talk) 07:54, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
331dot, that is among my concerns but that is not my only concern. Perhaps you and I might conclude that the steakhouse was fictional and no harm, no foul. But other less experienced editors may conclude that this is some kind of "official steakhouse account" with a team of editors authorized to edit steakhouse articles, of which we have many. I do not think that any usernames implying shared use should be permitted, even if two administrators conclude that the entity is fictional. An additional factor is that this account's first edit was to add a highly promotional, low quality lifestyle, beauty and fashion blog reference to Steakhouse. In my view, a steakhouse spammer cannot evade scrutiny by choosing a fictional steakhouse name.
Maybe tomorrow, I will edit The Big Texan Steak Ranch. I had dinner there in April and took several photos that I already uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. But I have no conflict of interest other than having dinner with my wife there . . . once. Cullen328 (talk) 08:28, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cullen328, now that the user has been renamed, any objection to an unblock? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 14:19, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Firefangledfeathers, I do not object to the unblock, but I encourage the editor to be very cautious about the copyright status of any image they upload. Cullen328 (talk) 16:32, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks C328. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:42, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've renamed you, what edits do you wish to make? 331dot (talk) 08:39, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks for the rename.
I wish to make good neutral edits on stuff that interests me, like games, movies, and web media. I am once again not a sellout and never will be.
I will try to use good sources in the future, but is there a place where I can ask admins if sources are good?
The sources I did to steakhouse were the first few results on DuckDuckGo, and I was not advertising anything, I have no association with the said sources. Gelatin Infinity (talk) 08:47, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can find a lot of specifics at WP:RSN and the general guidelines at WP:RELIABLE. Reliable sourcing is a key component of making Wikipedia what it is, and the encyclopedia would be a lot less helpful if Google searches and random blogs were considered reliable coverage. CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 09:07, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand now, and I won't use random blogs with SEO as sources after I get unblocked. I bookmarked the links for future reference. Also I have some facts of Diary of a Wimpy Kid that you could add to Wikipedia:
    • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck has a Book and CD version (in the UK). I know because I have the book & CD version, and I can upload an image of it if you want me to.
    • The publisher for Diary of a Wimpy Kid books in the UK is Penguin Books or Puffin Books (I think it's the latter?).
    • The Polish version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 1 is slightly larger than the British English version because I have both versions. I can post a picture as proof.

GI, I've granted your unblock request. I would encourage you to consider those suggested edits carefully. As C328 cautions you above, photos of copyrighted material (like a book cover) should be handled very carefully. If you are not familiar and comfortable with WP:NFCC, study it and ask questions before moving forward. Welcome back, and happy editing. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:42, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay, but thank you for the unblock. I will make sure to edit carefully, follow the NFCC, and only use copyrighted content if absolutely necessary.
What are some examples of what is considered a violation of NFCC and what is not though?
Also idk if you forgot or if it is intentional, but you didn't actually unblock me. Gelatin∞ (talk) 19:45, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now actually unblocked. I'm happy to answer NFCC questions, but that's too broad. Are there specific criteria you're unsure about? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 04:02, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the unblock. Can you elaborate and give some examples of NFCC rules 1 and 2 please? Gelatin∞ (talk) 19:10, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The most concrete example of #1 is that it rules out non-free images of most living people. It's possible to just take a new picture and release it with a compatible license. I most often see #2 bundled in discussion with #3. For example, we limit the resolution of non-free images both because we want to use them as minimally as possible while delivering encyclopedic value and because low-resolution copies are less likely to affect the commercial prospects of the copyright holder. Does that help? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:30, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it does help and I understand, thank you for explaining. Gelatin∞ (talk) 21:32, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
