Information icon Hello, I'm Waxworker. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Back to the Future Part III (video game), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Waxworker (talk) 21:27, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Heavy Nova (video game). While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. 2600:1702:2340:3020:51E9:9EFF:2F67:A350 (talk) 13:30, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the mistake, I thought that you could add reviews or ratings within the pages and that was not a violation of the rules. It is not clear to me why links to other websites, IGN or Eurogamer for example, can be included within the reception section and not to other websites. If you could clarify this for me or tell me when it is possible to add reviews or when is not, I would greatly appreciate it. I have read the documentation and the guides but there are aspects that are not entirely clear to me.
I also have doubts regarding the user report. I do not understand if this is due to the inclusion of the aforementioned link or if it has to do with my username in particular. Is it mandatory to use my first and last name or if I can use a business name such as that of my website?
Best regards https://geimers.com/ (talk) 14:05, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Hammersoft (talk) 14:47, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To answer your questions; No, you don't have to use your real name. You can choose another name. The name can't be the name of a company/website, such as you've done in this case. Please see our username policy for more information. I've blocked this account for the name violation and also because you are attempting to promote yourwebsite, as you did here, by including links to your website. This is not acceptable on Wikipedia. If continued, such actions can result in the website being added to our blacklist, which can negatively affect your SEO and thus traffic to your website. Please reconsider your actions. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:49, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thank you for your reply.
I am sorry that you assume that my actions were intentional when I simply believed that it was possible to add reviews as long as they provided some valuable content. In any case, it was my mistake for misinterpreting the rules. In the future, I will try to contact an administrator to confirm whether or not any editing can be done.
Regarding my username, I admit that I created it before reading the rules, ignoring that it should not be the same as my website. Is it possible to change it once the account has been created? Because I cannot find the option within the control panel.
At the moment, I would like to be able to continue translating some pages that do not have a Spanish version. I understand that there is no violation in this since no information or links are added that are not already approved. However, if I have any questions, could I consult you (or another moderator or admin) for advice before editing?
Thank you for your patience and best regards. https://geimers.com/ (talk) 15:08, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The instructions above give guidance on how to go about requesting a new username. I assume you actions were intentional, since you intentionally added the URL to your website in your edit that I noted. You don't need to seek administrator approval to edit something. Anyone can edit. We just ask that you edit in accordance with our Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:16, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user is asking to be unblocked to request a change in username.

Requested username:

Request reason:
I understand the reasons for my block. Firstly, I used the same username as my own website, which I now know is grounds for sanction. I also included a link to said website. I thought that if the linked article added some extra information to the page in question it was feasible to include it. After a more in-depth reading of the rules it has become clear to me that it is completely forbidden to link to one's own content and/or to include personal assessments or opinions. If I am unblocked I would like to be able to continue contributing translations into Spanish of articles that are not available in that language. I know that I can generate good translations while respecting the rules, simply by limiting myself to translating the information already available on Wikipedia itself without the need to include additional information. I apologize for the inconvenience caused and I hope in the future to be able to contribute by providing quality translations while respecting the rules.

Administrators should consider discussing any unblock with the blocking administrator (see the blocking policy).

Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, please replace this template with the following:

Just for clarity; I (blocking admin) am fine with the new username as well, but not the sig as is that spams the website. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:07, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I completely forgot to remove the signature, I just updated it. Chengui (talk) 21:07, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Do you want to edit the English Wikipedia, or do you just want to edit the Spanish version? You can translate articles into Spanish for the Spanish Wikipedia, because the block is only for the English Wikipedia. PhilKnight (talk) 16:19, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I mainly intend to translate articles into Spanish. But I would also like to add some information to some original English articles. Especially related to the differences between versions of video games, such as extra or omitted levels, special Easter eggs for each version, bugs in specific versions. Most of the game articles on Wikipedia have general information but do not usually include the differences that exist between the different versions of the game on each of its platforms.
