DYK nominations
When you nominate articles for DYK, please add the nominations to the top of the day that they were created. This gives older nominations more priority, and is fairer. Thanks, Adabow (talk · contribs) 07:00, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Would just like to second this, going through the 17 Sept candidate hooks and finding your nominations all over the place, some of them lower down have already been reviewed, possibly because the reviewers thought they've been sitting there since Sept 17 itself. Not exactly very fair. Strange Passerby (talk • c • status) 16:02, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Re double DYK nom - Giuseppe Campanari and Gustav Hinrichs
Hi there, I thought of a new hook that combines both articles. Please go to the current nomination entry. If you're happy with it, could you change all the documentation to reflect the double nom. I'm not sure how to do it myself and don't want to make a mess. It should be completed today to keep within the 5 day limit for the Hinrichs article. DYK Thanks
Thanks for nominating those articles for DYK. I feel a bit sheepish because I threw them off quickly and am not particularly proud of them. Also because after self-nominating Pearl Rivers I now have 5 candidate articles in the queue at the same time. But I suppose articles like these do help draw people into browsing on subjects they would not have otherwise thought about. And there is a childish pleasure in have DYK notices on my talk page. So, thanks. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 14:42, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Nigeria
I am on a roll. Just started Idoani Confederacy, Wukari Federation, somewhat related Kuteb people and Kebbi Emirate, still being expanded. But I dunno. To me DYK articles should be lightweight, maybe amusing, articles with curious facts. This kind of plodding sketch history of obscure places, full of obscure names, does not really seem to qualify. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:01, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- I am quite ambivalent about these. I am uncomfortable self-nominating articles that seem to me sort of obscure and flat. If you decide to nominate any of these (I will not) the hook for Kuteb/Wukari is wrong. The idea that a Chamba could get a traditional Kuteb title caused trouble, but there were unrelated tensions between the Wukari and Tiv, Tiv and Chamba etc. Just too many very different people jammed into too small an area with too little money. I would forget Kuteb and use the 318k fish for Wukari. Although if you look at the picture in the source, I don't think that fish is that heavy! Aymatth2 (talk) 21:46, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- Reading that response again, I see it could be taken wrong. I have self-doubts about the value of the articles I start, their interest to a general reader and my motives for sometimes nominating them for DYK. The articles accurately reflect the sources as far as possible, and I think the subjects are interesting, but sometimes I am unsure whether someone who really understood the subject from first-hand experience would agree with the interpretation... my problem.
- You are doing invaluable work in searching out and nominating suitable articles for DYK, and the DYK section is hugely important. The reader comes looking for the answer to some question, and DYK draws them into browsing into subjects they would never have explored. Or they check Wikipedia to see what is new in DYK. Maybe the value in Wikipedia is more in getting people to think about subjects they never knew about than in answering questions. Choosing which subjects to put in front of them may be as important as the quality of the articles. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:41, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors
Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.
If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!
You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).
I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:29, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, that isn't the shortest, 2 years ago I had the hook, "that kids are people too?" I've now nominated an article for the DYK/AFD that's got that one topped: "...that's unpoppable?" MSU Interview
Dear GeeJo,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 23:36, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi; I wrote a remark about this page nomination, basically saying the page is unstable, could possibly be delisted from FA, things still kinda contentious and disputed in terms of neutrality and appropriateness of editing behavior at the moment. Up to you whether to run it big but there may be a better candidate, not sure. Best. The Sound and the Fury (talk) 16:13, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
