[edit]

Hello. I came across your message to Ckatz while checking recent changes to Wikipedia. Looking at his contributions page, it appears that Ckatz may have stopped editing for the moment. I thought I might step in and hopefully shed some light on the most likely reason he removed some of the links you added to Michael Kahn (film editor). First, let me thank you for adding external links to that article. Most of the links you added are very helpful and fall within Wikipedia's guidelines for external links. I would have to agree, however, with Ckatz's removal of the three links that point to AOTG. Wikipedia guidelines for external links consider certain types of external sites to be promotional in nature. Specifically, Links normally to be avoided #5 (excessive advertising) applies here. While many sites rely on advertising for funding, the AOTG sites consist of one small item of interest, and a great deal of advertising. Even their internal links on those pages point to pages that mainly consist of advertising for external sites. Since each AOTG page contains objectionable amounts of advertising, and since you included three links to AOTG, it is clear why Ckatz may have chosen to remove those three links. Of the eight links you added, these three were the only ones that Ckatz removed. This indicates that Ckatz took the time to investigate each link you provided and evaluate each on its merits. Since he left five of the eight links, you are clearly making positive contributions. It is simply that the AOTG links failed the guidelines test. Again, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It is always good to see new editors engaged in editing specific areas as this usually indicates a responsible, sincere approach to improving articles. Thank you, take care, and happy editing! 76.105.171.161 (talk) 17:02, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
