Re: Warsaw talkpage
[edit]Hi Garsd, thank you for your message on my talkpage.
I am aware of Wikipedia policies such as Wikipedia:NOTFORUM and Wikipedia:NOTSOCIALNETWORK
Our editors, being human, have a habit of engaging in chat on talk pages. I don't think we can stop this (or, indeed, try to).
I think a certain level of chat, as long as it doesn't stray too far off topic, is actually beneficial to the project. It helps editors cooperate and colaberate effiently, in my opinion.
If we immediately delete theses edits as WP:NOTFACEBOOK or suchlike, I think we risk alienating editors, particularly those new to the project who perhaps do not understand all of our 'rules'
Some of the comments you deleted were over 8 years old (possibly before some of the policies were written)
The better coarse of action, in my opinion, is to archive the threads that are no longer active or relevant. I have done so and archived the page today.
Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 23:20, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for February 7
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Sunland-Tujunga, Los Angeles, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ben-Hur (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[edit]I noticed that you have posted comments to the page User talk:Lguipontes in a language other than English. When on the English-language Wikipedia, please always use English, no matter to whom you address your comments. This is so that comments may be comprehensible to the community at large. If the use of another language is unavoidable, please provide a translation of the comments. For more details, see Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thank you. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 15:51, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hello. That message was written in portuguese and regarded mwl.wikipedia. mirandese (mwl) is a minoritary language of Portugal. I was trying to enquire into the knowledge some people who once edited mwl.wikipedia have of the language. I contacted them outside mwl.wikipedia, because long they are inactive. Really, it had absolutely nothing to do with anything in en.wikipedia. I've left the same message in users' talk pages in wikis whose language I don't even know. I couldn't make a local version of the message in those cases. Bye. Garsd (talk) 18:30, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- WP:SPEAKENGLISH is very clear on this. Please don't use another language in any areas of the English Wikipedia. Thanks. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 18:35, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- I've read WP:SPEAKENGLISH, and I doubt it is so clear as you say. In it one reads "it is preferred", not "you must". But I get it: the local community sees a message which it doesn't understand and wonders what's that about. I understand that. In the future I'll leave the notice This message concerns another wiki and has nothing to do with anything going on in en.wikipedia besides the message. But I won't translate my message. No, I won't waste my time. Garsd (talk) 19:21, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- I think you miss the point. There is never a good reason to communicate in any language other than English here. Just use English. Very simple. The English Wikipedia is not your forum to discuss unrelated topics. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:37, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- What I did was unrelated to en.wikipedia, but it was not a discussion, I was just trying to reach someone who seemed to be more active here than in the other wiki. Discussion followed in the other wiki. So in the future I will leave rather the notice I am just trying to contact this user about an issue in mwl.wikipedia. This has nothing to do with anything going on in en.wikipedia besides the message. Garsd (talk) 19:57, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
