ENG 465 Check-In
[edit]Hi Gabrielle,
This is Sam, the TA from ENG 465! Prof. Hanley asked me to help get in touch with everyone this weekend to make sure the Wiki assignments are moving along smoothly.
I see you already completed several of the training modules and exercises, which is fantastic! Additionally, I see you've chosen some topics of interest, which is a great starting point.
However, I think Prof. Hanley's intent for the assignment was to choose an article on a single, specific post-apocalyptic science fiction book or movie to edit, instead of articles on broader themes or topics. But I'd be very happy to help you brainstorm or maybe look at resources to help you come up with an idea, if you wanted!
You can reply to me here and I'll get an email notification, or you can message me on Zoom during class, if you'd like. If you think I can be of any help to you with this project, please let me know! --Sjnickerson (talk) 03:19, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Sam,
- Thanks for checking in. I can see how my assigned articles might fall under categories that are too broad/ general for this assignment. I’ve since been looking at more Wiki pages, and was considering editing the page for Isaac Asimov’s “The Last Question”. I think that the page has potential for me to do some good editing, and Asimov’s story touches on many of the themes of the end of humanity we’ve discussed in this class, but I am concerned that maybe the story isn’t distinctly “post-apocalyptic” enough to be utilized for this project. I don’t know if you have read the story, and I am happy to provide more contextual information, but I would appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, advice on the subject etc. Thank you! - Hi again Gabrielle!
- I apologize for my delayed response! "The Last Question" seems like an excellent choice. I feel confident that it's within the scope of our course, I wouldn't worry about it not being "post-apocalyptic" enough... from the existing plot summary on Wikipedia it looks like it involves the end of the entire universe, so I think that fits. Ultimately, Prof. Hanley has the final say on approving topics, but I wouldn't worry about it— yours should be fine.
- As a "Start-class" quality article, there's definitely room for you to make good edits, I think you're definitely right about that! Maybe expanding the lead or adaptations sections, or adding a characters or reception or legacy section?
- And I haven't read it, but since it's a short story, I could find time to read it over this coming weekend, if you think it would help me help you better! I've also helped a few other students with identifying potential sources, so let me know if that's something you're concerned with as well. --Sjnickerson (talk) 17:24, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Gabrielle,
- Just letting you know I left the "greenlight" Prof. H wanted everyone to have on your article draft sandbox Talk page! I also left you some feedback too, since you only received one of your two assigned peer reviews. --Sjnickerson (talk) 05:27, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
