The Garfield Show

Do you have any recent sources that say The Garfield Show is still active? The current ones are from almost two years ago, and one mentions that TGS has been out of production for “a year or two.” If that’s the case, and there hasn’t been any activity since at least 2015, then I say we can safely assume the show has ended, especially since it’s no longer on Boomerang.

Nathan Osbert (talk) 12:54, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

I didn't say that it was active, I said that it was on hiatus.
Do you have any official word that it is over? I don't think assumptions will cut it here.
GVO8891 (talk) 14:31, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
I don’t have any official word saying that it’s over, but the sources you have saying that the show is on hiatus are rather out of date, so I don’t think they’re very reliable either.
Nathan Osbert (talk) 14:37, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
So I guess the status of the show is "unknown", then (i.e. until an official word comes out).
GVO8891 (talk) 14:39, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
That may be more accurate, but what value does it add to just say a show’s status is “unknown”?
Nathan Osbert (talk) 14:44, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
I'm not sure what's the best term, but "cancelled/ended" would be premature. I've been undoing edits giving October 24, 2016 as an end date for a long while, and that's because almost none of them give a source (there was at least one exception, and the source in that one didn't seem sure). That's why I recently added a note requiring a source for an end date.
GVO8891 (talk) 14:50, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
At this point, it seems safe to say that the show’s original release is over. If it ever were to be revived, then that would be considered a second release.
Nathan Osbert (talk) 14:57, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
That's only an assumption. I don't think that's good enough for Wikipedia standards. Perhaps the best description is something like "While inactive for years, no official word of its status has been given."
Also, Mark Evanier noted in the first source given that the show's status on Cartoon Network and/or Boomerang is not that relevant. The primary channel is France 3.
GVO8891 (talk) 15:02, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
True, but there hasn’t been any new activity on France 3 either, has there?
Nathan Osbert (talk) 15:05, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
Not that I know of (haven't really checked), but all I ask for is a proper source stating that it is over, and we can say it is over. Until then, let's not jump to conclusions.
GVO8891 (talk) 15:08, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes, but we don’t have such a source as of now, so what should be done until then?
Nathan Osbert (talk) 15:15, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
I've given a few suggestions, though I admit they may not be the best.
I suppose the best way the issue can be resolved would be to ask Mark Evanier about it (he previously tried settling a feud about whether or not some episode titles were authentic, which eventually worked out). Hopefully we can get an updated answer (I'm guessing either still on hiatus or finally cancelled/ended), especially since, as you've pointed out, there hasn't been much word* from him about it for a while.
  • On a couple of posts from 2017, he did refer to his status on the show in the present tense, though that hardly seems to be confirmation about it not being over yet.
GVO8891 (talk) 15:31, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I think an answer from him would be adequate, assuming he posts it on his blog like before.
