Source of quotes

[edit]

Hey GRuban. Thanks for going through this source. One small point in Minkowitz's favour is that she does source the two missing quotes you note. For “radically different values [and] cultures”, she links to this AMA at /r/TheRedPill in her Slate article. For “loyalty requires preference. It requires discrimination.”, she links to the essay Honor on the Dead Star on Donovan's site.

I'm inclined to say that this issue was at least in part my error, rather than Minkowitz's. I misread her statement as saying that those statements appeared in A Sky Without Eagles, whereas they seem to have appeared more broadly in Donovan's writings.

As for the 'all-white' or white supremacist bits? Might be a question of how charitably one reads Donovan. I'm not sure.

I mention this because it might be worth re-evaluating our use of Minkowitz if she did make some error here (though I content that the error is probably mine). Jlevi (talk) 17:29, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. That might actually be worse - neither of those quotes are referring to white culture vs non white, or racial discrimination. One is talking about Star Wars stormtroopers! I thought she got Donovan mixed up with another of his peers who promotes white supremacy, goodness knows there is no shortage of them. But here she is deliberately misleading by taking his words out of context. --GRuban (talk) 01:06, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
