License tagging for Image:Eeblue3.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Eeblue3.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:05, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

I have taken the liberty of closing your request to delete the article Callum early. It's a problem which doesn't requeire deletion, since there is a legitimate version to revert it to. I have also removed vandalized revisions from the history, and the article is now protected so that only registered users can edit it. - Mike Rosoft 12:02, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to WikiProject Trains

[edit]

Hello and welcome to the Trains WikiProject! Thank you for adding your name to our project membership list. Our goal is to build the most comprehensive and detailed guide to rail transport on Wikipedia. As a project member, you may add the project membership userbox to your user page if you wish.

If you haven't done so already, please add our main project page to your watchlist and take some time to review the Trains project manual of style where we have collected guidelines and suggestions on notability and style for a consistent representation of rail transport related material. If you're curious about where to start, we've gathered a few suggestions in the Trains project to do list. If you'd like to specialize in a particular area of study within rail transport, take a look at the current Trains project task forces.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the project talk page or on my talk page. Again, welcome and happy editing! Slambo (Speak) 16:02, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Tacs.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tacs.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

NZR Manual of Style

[edit]

Hi there,

As you are a regular editor of articles relating to New Zealand's railways, I thought I would bring my proposed NZR Manual of Style to your attention. I have created this Manual of Style after recent disputes made it clear to me that a formalised style system is necessary. I have sought to establish fair notability guidelines and to establish stylistic guidelines in line with the most common usage in reliable text sources on the topic. If you have any input, please leave a comment on my talk page. I am particularly interested in comment on the railway stations style section, where I state that New Zealand has railway stations, not train stations. This is likely to cause some issue if it is accepted: while the most major stations in the main centres are at "Railway Station", all other Auckland and Wellington stations with articles are at "Train Station" and some serious work on page moves would be required.

Have a good one! - Axver 10:08, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AFD nomination of Sadie

[edit]

It appears in your nomination that you caught a version of the page that had been vandalized by an anonymous user. I think it just needs to be restored to an older verison. I did not revert the change to the article because of the on going AFD debate. I put the link to the older article on the AFD discussion. --Cyrus Andiron 18:17, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello GCFreak2, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Toll Logo.png) was found at the following location: User:GCFreak2. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 04:09, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted images

[edit]

In answer to your question, yes, if you can provide a fair use rationale for an image, you can upload it again. The point (theoretically) is that these images need the rationale, not that they need to be deleted. --GentlemanGhost 14:59, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

bot

[edit]

Betacommandbot seems to be using an outdated list to tag those train images, since they don't actually require a fair use rationale (they're considered freely available and in-line with our policies). I guess adding one won't hurt it, and it will keep the bot from leaving you messages until it's fixed. Sorry for the confusion. -- Ned Scott 03:40, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Err, oops, forget what I just said. Seems it was under fair use after all. -- Ned Scott 03:43, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mebibyte vs. Megabyte

[edit]

GCFreak2, you recently made an edit to Random Access Memory and may be interested in participating in the formulation of new Wikipedia policy regarding computer terminology. The issue of using IEC terminology like “gibibyte” (v.s. “gigabyte”) is currently being discussed here on Talk:MOSNUM (as well as here, here, here, and here) on the same forum. Straw poll vote on binary prefixes

[edit]

I note that you voted on a proposed MOSNUM policy for Wikipedia to use the common binary prefixes like “kilobit” rather than the IEC prefixes (“kibibit”). Since you took an interest in the issue at that time, I thought it proper to let you know that the proposal has since morphed into a broader policy (MOSNUM #Follow current literature). A straw poll on whether the basic principle underlying that policy is sound is currently ongoing here at Talk MOSNUM #Straw poll. I hope you read the policy and vote as you see fit. Hope to see you there. Greg L (talk) 21:57, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Tacs.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Tacs.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use File:Eeblue3.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Eeblue3.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 12:42, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

[edit]
Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
