Welcome to my user talk page. Please insert new subjects at the bottom of the page and new comments to existing subjects at the bottom of that subject. Note that this page is not checked every day. For quicker answers you could try the danish equivalent of this page, since it is almost checked every day. Thanks. G®iffen

Trucks
[edit]Pardon for intruding, but would you be interested in supporting the creation of a project about trucks? Please feel free to sign up or just comment at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Trucks. Rotten Stone 16:18, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- See truck project proposal - yes, but I'll not be the top submitter. G®iffen 17:18, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- No problem, it's not like signing up for the Foreign Legion. I just thought it would be a good thing if a couple of us could put our heads together and come up with some basic guidelines for how an article about a truck or a truck manufacturer should look like. And then we take it from there. Rotten Stone 18:48, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm impressed by articles like Morris Motors and Morris Minor, and if I understood the project correct, articles of that quality are wanted, correct?
- I'm not that much into the history of neither the manufacturers nor the models, but I'd say I'm capable of at least finding matching pics for many European models (mostly after - say 1975), I can check spelling, and for what it's worth I can read scandinavian languages and german good enough to get the points. If I can just find base articles. Many others can do that, but apparently they didn't find the project proposal yet... G®iffen 19:37, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Both articles looks good. However, I'm not sure about what a good article looks like, I just thought we should try to get some of the less good ones up to some kind of minimal standard. Rotten Stone 16:25, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Hej G®iffen.
Hej Rotten Stone - redigeringskonflikt :-)
- Without exactly reading the Morris article, I suggest we use it as "basic minimum", to make truck brand articles look like it, meaning a few pics of different models to the right, oldest models in top, newer below. Then a history (from start thru takeovers and joint-ventures till today) , geography (about main markets in different eras, who builds spcifically for Siberian winter transport today, who sold a lot for Sahara desert in the 70's), eventual official visions (if the company officially wants to set a standard, take over a market or others) and then a list of models (linking to specific model groups like the Morris article does).
- In the specific model articles I also suggest a look-alike, with infoboxes on the sub-models (as in the Volvo FH that I just created, it would be nice to have two boxes FH12 and FH16 to compare differences and to get a pic of each. Then the article text should contain time of production beginning (and eventually end of it), intended market, eventual unintended but often seen markets (like if intended for distribution, but often seen as fire engine or...). Then the articles should mention licenced versions produced elsewhere, engine sizes, load range, other tech. data.
- hmm... I just had a few points more, but it escaped my head :-(
- Basicly I have the opinion that any word or pic is better than a red link, but I'm not satisfied with "my" Volvo FH stub. I think that maybe we should set up some standard headlines for standard articles, saying "We want this mentioned in every article".
- Maybe some of this should be copied to the wikiProject page?
- G®iffen 17:13, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Rotten Stone 19:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Jeg kigger på det i morgen, lørdag. G®iffen 19:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Age category
[edit]Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:
- Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
- Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.
If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:46, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Gorky Park
[edit]I went back and removed Research Triangle Park, also. Please read the section I added to the talk page for Park (disambiguation). If you still have any questions please ask on my talk page. Happy editing! Chris the speller 19:51, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Friendly reminder
[edit]G®iffen, I was looking at your edit summary for this edit, and I just wanted to drop a friendly reminder to assume good faith and not bite the newcomers.. Cheers! —Cliffb 19:54, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- This solution was selected instead of dropping a second warning about vandalism at TGPrestons talk page. If You look at that page and the semi-trailer history, I'd like to know if I was still too rude? G®iffen 17:00, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Road traffic in Denmark
[edit]Hi! You need a citation in the article Road traffic in Denmark. Unfortunately I cannot find it written anywhere (as if I was looking) but it was and still is what I see every day working as a truck driver in Copenhagen. G®iffen 19:18, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- OK, hopefully someone else will find something to cite. Rich Farmbrough, 21:37 24 April 2007 (GMT).
Browser
[edit]Hi Grif
Remember we talked about a spelling checker? If you use Firefox as your browser, it can automatically underline all words it considers oddly spelled if you download the Danish and British dictionaries. It doesn't suggest alternative spellings, but it has reduced my number of spelling mistakes quite a bit. Just a thought. Happy editing. Valentinian T / C 22:28, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm quite conservative about my IE that was bundled with the PC. To this date I've never seen a machine running Firefox in "my world", and at the moment I'm having enough of a hard time learning Safari at my wifes new Mac... :-(
Re: Danish Pastry
[edit]You deleted an "irrelevant" trivia section in the article about danish pastry. I don't see that this was more irrelevant than references to The Simpsons episodes in the dumpster article or other similar cases. Is it possible that you could explain "irrelevancy" to this stupid dane? :-) Thanks --G®iffen 17:26, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there, I have replied to your question on my talk page. :-) Rubywine 08:51, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Replacement pic for Image:P2080.JPG
[edit]Thank you for improving an article I recently started in the English Wikipedia called Cabin (truck) by inserting three pictures of trucks. In the article Semi-trailer truck which you have also edited in the past, the first picture in the article called Image:P2080.JPG, a rather nice image showing a semi-trailer truck, is slated for deletion. Please see comments on its Talk page: Image talk:P2080.JPG and see if you can find a nice-looking replacement for this introductory picture. H Padleckas 23:25, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's holiday season, so it might take a few days, but I'll se what I can do about it. G®iffen 22:45, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've found a suggestion, I'd like to hear an opinion... G®iffen 11:58, 21 July 2007 (UTC) This talk section is copied to H Padleckas' talk page
- Thanks for finding a replacement picture and inserting it into the Semi-trailer truck article. I think it's good - better than the other pics in that article now, but the tires on that truck are in a shadow and do not seem as completely clear as the Image:P2080.JPG image. I still have a slight preference for the Image:P2080.JPG image at this point. When this image is gone, it would be good to replace it with the image you selected. I have not done it yet, but I may substitute back until the Image:P2080.JPG is deleted, then put back the image you selected.
- I am also working on a simple drawing of an 18-wheeler to show the basic parts of it. Sometimes diagrams can be made to show things clearer than photos. It may take me a little time to finish it. If you are an expert on trucks, you may want to take a look at it when I upload it. H Padleckas 02:35, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Looks like Image:P2080.JPG has been deleted. We will use the pic you inserted now. H Padleckas 03:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've found a suggestion, I'd like to hear an opinion... G®iffen 11:58, 21 July 2007 (UTC) This talk section is copied to H Padleckas' talk page
- You might consider a drawing as seen from the top, with a chassis and the wheels. Example to the right.
- Drawings might be a point of discussins on a page like this, since 18-wheelers are not the only configuration - it might be "the usual" in The States, but not in the rest of the world. Also in The States, 18 wheels would normally be divided as truck/10 semi/8, while in Europe it's often truck/6 and semi/12.
- I'm not more expert than other truck drivers, but I've seen quite a few heavy vehicles around... :-)

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

- Yeah, but as written in the description, it's meant for a (this) talk page. If anyone finds it suitable (I doubt that) for an article elsewhere, theu're welcome to move/copy it over.
- I assume the comment is a bot message or a subst inserted without investigating the use. G®iffen 13:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- I will make a drawing very similar to your drawing above as an example of a common 18-wheeler used in North America, except that it will include a side view and a view from the bottom to show the wheels. I will number about 10 parts of the truck in numbers instead of English words, so that the pic can be used in many language Wikimedias with a legend in the pic caption. A couple of pics I made like that have become quite popular in multiple languages, so I think I'll make a few more like that. I will try to send you an e-mail also. - I cannot send you an e-mail since you did not provide an e-mail address to Wikipedia. You can send me your e-mail address through Wikipedia or to this private e-mail address:

- That way I can send you a preliminary draft of my pic for your review comments.
H Padleckas 04:10, 27 July 2007 (UTC)- I have now activated mails from other users - thought i HAD been through all relevant languages doing that :-( G®iffen 10:32, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

About Tractor unit
[edit]Full discussion at Athol Mullen's talk page
What I put in the article is "usually with a large diesel engine and two or three axles." Note the word usually. Compare this diff of what I previously put in the article and what it was changed to by someone else.
"Most have 2 or more axles" is completely and utterly wrong. It's not possible for a truck to have only one axle. All trucks have 2 or more axles.
I've seen trucks with up to 5 axles. They do exist. They are rarely used as prime movers (tractor units) and are instead mostly used for heavy rigid trucks.
The vast majority of prime movers in Australia are 3-axle, even for road trains in excess of 100 tonnes. Allowing for the fact that some smaller prime movers here and in a lot of other countries are 2-axle, I believe that the statement as I put it is technically correct. Most have 2 or 3 axles. A very small number have more.
The question of bogie drive versus single drive and lazy axle is also fairly clear cut in Australia. A lot of rigid trucks run lazy axles but, having seen literally thousands of trucks over the years, I haven't seen one prime mover with a lazy axle since I started in this line of work in 1994. They may exist but they are extremely rare. It may be different elsewhere in the world, but the trucks that I've seen are from North America, Japan and Europe and are the same types as used in those markets. --Athol Mullen 11:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
You had earlier expressed interest in such a project. Please note that the project is now active. John Carter (talk) 16:09, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called G®iffen. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name G®iffen~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
