Feedback on your work to date (Nov 2, 2017).

[edit]

Very nice article critique. For the post-fire seeding...you did a lot of work there. Is that your intended article for developing for the class? I couldn't tell if that was your planned work. My feedback is that it is too management oriented and not about a disturbance regime. Native uses of fire is actually a better topic because sustained use of fire over millennia can't be ignored as part of a disturbance regime...in this case it is initiated by people but nonetheless may be a long-term importance.

Nice overview! It looks like you have a good balance within the article on many of the different topics within a pretty broad category. I really liked the vegetation map included in the "Role of fire by natives" section-- maybe consider including (if you can find one) a vegetation map of pre- and post- European settlement to show those changes in landscape and regime.

I don't know if you are considering breaking out (regionally maybe?) different areas of the U.S. that have seen different use and effects of fires historically by natives, but that may be an interesting section to include within the article.

It looks like you are planning on discussing more in-depth some of the ways Europeans changed the landscape and how they learned techniques from native groups, which would be useful I think in the "Arrival of the Europeans" section.

Maybe for the last section "Reasons for burning", your list of 11 categories for burning could be made into a table format instead for easier reading. For example, it could list the type, reason for burning, effects of burning, etc.

Really interesting article, it seems like you're headed in a good direction! Standard-fare (talk) 20:52, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
