Strange punctuation
[edit]Hi. Would you explain your intent with these edits: here and here, adding multiple unnecessary strings of parentheses to citations (that were not in the source), and breaking the link in one case? —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 23:41, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Request reason:
I was logged in on a browser with a malicious extension installed that caused the strange edits. It has been removed and it will not happen again, I give you my word. FriendlyChemist (talk) 19:24, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
Decline reason:
This does not go far enough. What specific extension was installed? Why was it installed? Why did you not notice this for several months? I want to be clear, your explanation may be plausible, it just doesn't go far enough to explain the situation. Yamla (talk) 19:38, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Block reason
[edit]The extension highlighted hebrew names to inform the user. That is all it did. A side effect is it edits all text client side which caused me to accidentaly send the errord edit when making normal helpful edits. I never intended to edit anything to offend anyone and never have done so since ive been on wikipedia for almost 4 years. I understand that youre here to police wikipedia, not the extensions I run on my browser. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FriendlyChemist (talk • contribs)
- Indeed, I don't know what extensions you installed in your browser. However, your behaviour was beyond the pale. You are trying to excuse your behaviour by indicating this was a malicious browser extension. I'm trying to investigate to determine if that's plausible. Frankly, you aren't describing a malicious browser extension, you are describing a browser extension doing exactly what you intended it to do, albeit with some unexpected consequences. Again, you can do what you like with your browser extensions, we are judging your actions here. I agree this is the only problem in the more than three years you've edited here, but also you've made very few edits and the bad ones were so, so, so bad. So, as it stands, I oppose an unblock. But at this point, you aren't trying to convince me, you are trying to convince the next reviewing admin. You are welcome (but not obligated) to go into more detail, including which specific browser extension you installed. If the extension has nothing to do with white supremacy, this would count in your favour. But also, not naming the specific browser extension will not necessarily be held against you. --Yamla (talk) 20:03, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Decline reason:
I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
- the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
- the block is no longer necessary because you
- understand what you have been blocked for,
- will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
- will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. only (talk) 21:10, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
