Turn of phrase

[edit]

It may interest you to know I found this page by Googling "Wikipedian fundamentalism," just to see if anyone had used it. (Right now, it's the only hit.) I was a bit surprised to see it being described as something positive, but I see what you're getting at — the positive attributes of someone who wants to focus on the "fundamental goals" — not someone who takes such goals as incontrovertible in the same way religious fundamentalists treat their scriptures. Sounds cool… I myself am thinking about doing an essay on a different sort of "fundamentalism," the one whereby defending Wikipedia's reputation in arguments ends up taking priority over improving Wikipedia (not that I'm accusing you or anyway of that). Anyway, take it easy… :) Lenoxus " * " 22:40, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. I sorta thought the word "fundamentalism" got a raw deal because of the modern association with religious extremists. It occurred to me when I was considering sports, actually- a basketball player might focus on the fundamentals of the game. Maybe I'm only trying to suggest that editors stay tightly focused on the encyclopedia. Friday (talk) 01:47, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
